Alas Equestria

Sentimental War

Aboard an unidentified floating ship the governor of the eastern islands met with her colleagues from the southern continent and the newly taken northern territories. For years the Equestrian colonies had been prospering. Making more gold with the more territory they had taken from the Europeans. Yet with all this profit something struck the governor as off. The colonists were the ones who were putting in all of the effort to gather, generally by force, these profitable materials and yet the motherland was taxing nearly half of all the colony's profits.

Up until that point there had been no secessionist movement within the Equestrian colonies or even any particularly seditious organizations operating within it. However, the three governors had met for the specific purpose of fomenting a revolt. With the Equestrian colonies an independent nation its riches would remain its riches, or more specifically their riches. All they had to do was covertly nudge the colonies towards a more independent way of thinking and wait for the crown to further restrict economic or political freedom in the colonies.

Of course they didn't have to wait long. Celestia yet again raised the tax rate of the colonies; and would do so several more times.

About two decades after their initial meeting the conspirators were ready to put their plan into action. On July of 1742 the Equestrian colonies declared independence from Equestria.

In the rush of the early revolution a mob of New Englanders and Equestrians had brought down a monument to the King of England. The Equestrians claimed that they were trying to rescue the horse from English Imperialism. When brought in for questioning the equestrians admitted that they had been drinking large amounts of cider.

Several months later the first troops of the Royal Expedition touched down on the Southern Continent. The colonies had already had time to mobilize a sizable army in the region and were thus able to repel the initial attack.

Eventually, after a prolonged battle, La Isabella finally fell. It would be the first of many military disasters in the Revolution. Due in part to the colonial forces having far inferior equipment, training, and those that actually had any combat experience had it from fighting against unarmed colonists and stationary cannons.

Desperate to get supplies to the southern continent the Colonial navy attempted to punch through the blockade surrounding the region. They were eventually able to break through the blockade but at a cost of 3 to 1 ships in any battle they were forced to engage in.

Having proven time and time again that their forces were far inferior on the fields of battle on the southern continent the colonial army was forced into a retreat. While things did not look good for the new nations spirits were still high on the hope of a new freedom.
