New symbol for gold

I have changed the symbol for gold so it is possible to see if it's gold or commerce that is meant in different places. It is supposed to be a Euro coin. (I hope someone at Firaxis comes up with something better to include in an official patch soon.)

Unzip the archive in your CustomAssets or mod folder under res/fonts.

Update: Screenshot as requested.

Can you please also post a screenshot in your future works if possible?

But in any case, I think this was quite needed, thanks!

So that's where those damn things are. I've been looking for the spot where these are located. Thank you for enlightening me.

Ahh, so did you get the file to work? I just posted in your other thread and wanted to know if it was a compression issue since I wanted to try to change some stuff in there myself.

I tried making a new commerce symbol myself using the processwealth.dds which is a stack of coins, but as you can see there's this disgusting little white halo around it.

Now that I think about it, it's in almost exactly the same shape as the coin. Hmm...do you think there's a masking problem? I wonder if there's a file somewhere that creates a mask around the objects.

You might possibly be interested in this thread about the Commerce symbol:
New commerce icon

and possibly, the threads might be combined... as they attempt to deal with the same problem... however, the method is different, so perhaps not. :p

Actually, both threads spawned out of Mumin's original thread here. It would be nice to have a single thread where all these variations could be found though.

Oh yeah, and I finally got my gold icon working :)

Okay, so let me get this straight, the euro or in Stuporstar's pack, the stack of gold coins, represent the actual gold, while the single gold coins on the world map represent commerce?

So specialists and such increase actual gold right? So what is the numerical relationship (if any) between gold and commerce.

Commerce is generated from map squares. Once collected by a city, it is converted into either Science (which is put in a pile to research new technologies - each tech costs a certain number of Science units to research), Gold (which goes into your treasury), or Culture (which is added to the city's Culture rating). This is what you are adjusting with your tax rate - the percentage of your commerce that will be converted to Science, Gold, and Culture.

It's overly confusing that they used the same icon - the gold coin - to represent two rather different things (Gold and Commerce). Commerce is the universal input, and Gold, Science, and Culture are the potential outputs.

My new commerce icon mod attempts to clear up a bit of the confusion.

OoO, thanks for the info MerakSpielman.

Stuporstar - for some reason your new gold icon makes some icons not work - like the defense icons and religion icons that pop up above cities on the world map.

I noticed this problem myself. I really don't know why it's happening or what to do about it though.

Is it happening with other mods to the gamefont files or just mine?

Edit: Ok, I've checked using Mumin's mod and his works for some reason and mine doesn't. I did notice though that my new gamefont files are waaaay bigger. I must have done something wrong when modifying the alpha channels or saving the file but I can't figure out what.

Edit: Ok, I didn't know what was wrong so I just did the whole thing over again and now it works. I must have accidentally saved it at a different compression rate or some dumbass thing. The same links will get you the new file.

Stuporstar, I just installed your mod, it's brilliant :goodjob:

I personally like changing the gold icon but leaving the commerce icon alone. I guess since since I'm used to the "gold" icons everywhere I want to keep them around.

Stuporstar, is it possible to post a complete path on where to install the necessary files? I'm lost here whether I have to go through the my documents section of C4 or the program files section.
And I better not try it myself, too much chance I'll remove the wrong files when I notice I've done something wrong.

The gold icon is a lot easier to change too, because it requires only the two modified gamefont files, whereas the commerce icon requires multiple files. Though I've also contributed to Merak's commerce mod, I actually stick to just the altered gold icon myself. The big gold coins for commerce are just more visible on terrain than all the different mods we've come up with. Sometimes simple is best.

Geomodder: It's safest to install the mod in the CustomAssets folder. Here is the "complete" path: \My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\CustomAssets\res\fonts

Thanks! :goodjob:

Just to say I'm quite happy with this mod. Now I'm pretty sure how to do my number crunching when building certain facilities in cities.

Could you do the same with the american $1 bill as the symbol for your treasury? I like the idea of keeping the original commerce icon as a gold coin to symbolize an unrefined resource whereas the euro or dollar would be the spendable money.

love the stack of coins... I too prefer the default commerce, just so easy to see and changing the coins as you did is perfect for me...

Thanks stup!

nope changed my mind... I LOVE this mini mod.

Cheers!
