Earth 18 Civs

^If Russia is a bit overpowered, then you should try considering changing Catherine to Stalin, since Catherine is creative and as such gets more of an early advantage than the other leaders, which snowballs into larger ones. Also Stalin is guaranteed to make more enemies.

I did consider that but like CAtherine because of her unpredictability as far as diplomacy. Without Julius and Al I have lost some backstabbers as Shaka and Ragnar are pretty predictable. Perhaps India should be dropped in favor of Persia again giving CAthy some southern threats.

Still Stalin would be the bets fix.

I'm really quite disappointed that no one seems to even consider the easier option. :(

If you download the map script I linked to and place it in your publicmaps folder, you can access it. It's called CustomEarth2. I'll help anyone interested with the settings.

Go to Custom Game, and from the top option that says map, select CustomEarth2. Here are the options:

Add extras to capital- It means, do you want for your capital to spawn grasslands/hills/plains/resources/etc. in addition to whatever the starting position has access to. It can really make Arabia and the Inca much better, but it will change the actual terrain of the Earth Map. For people who want to lower the difficulty for places like Arabia, Inca, and Mali, it's a good setting.

Features- I really don't think it actually did anything.

Resources- It will alter what resources appear. Probably means no Preatorian Rush with Rome, no War Chariot rush with Egypt, no Immortal rush with Persia. However, it can make the race for land more interesting. It will also delete starting resources if it's too plentiful. So, it sucks to be France.

Map Style- Earth Evolution is a slightly modified Earth 18 map. GiantEarthMap is literally, Giant Earth Map, and believe me, don't run this if your comp. is up to speed.

No free techs- Have all leaders start with 0 techs. Another more balancing option, I suppose.

Now, regarding the leaders you want. You'll see rows on the upper half of the Custom Game screen, some say AI, one says whatever the default name for you is, and one says closed. Team means slot, essentially. Scroll to the bottom, and either close or open slots to your pleasure. (For example, if you want 12 civs, 1 should have you default name, 11 should say AI, and one should say closed). It goes up to 18 civs, if you want more, you're going to need a modified DLL. Now, if you look to the upper right of the screen, you'll see options that both say random on the same row as it says AI, or your default name, etc.

What you want to do, if you feel like playing someone specific, is click on the first column that says random and select your leader. If you want to play as a specific nation but aren't fussed on who the leader is(England, China, America, etc.), then just select the nation from the second column that says random. If the civ has only one leader, then just select the nation or leader, whichever you prefer. Then go to the bottom right corner and select Launch! to start your game.

I really hope that atleast one person will try this or I'll be very disappointed that I spent half an hour testing the settings and writing this up to convince people.

EMT

I on GEM --- can the script just randomise goody huts --- probally the ONE thing it dosn't

But thanks for the link

Kaz, here is what I would do

1) Start an earth-18 map as Egypt.

2) Enter Worldbuilder and save the game as a worldbuilder file.

3) Exit game.

4) Go to my documents/my games/worldbuilder and open the saved game by right clicking and opening with Notepad.

5) Here you find all the leaders and names, was well as starting techs for each leader. You should be able to figure it from here.

TheMeInTeam has an excellent series of srticles on how to mod games similar to this. It's easier than you think and if I can do it anyone can!

This seems to work perfectly, but it looks rather complicated to get all the leaders' names and civ's and starting techs proprely!

Isn't there a way through the graphic interface? I mean, can I chosse to create a custom game, choose the civs, and then upload an empty map? Or go to the scenario and edit the civs ?

I played a map as Babylon where the only civs where the Aztecs, Ethiopians, and Vikings. The tech pace was insane for me. On Monarch(my usual level), I pulled off a CS slingshot with the oracle, rushed Ethiopia, and coexisted with Ragnar with me owning France, Britain, Spain, Italy, the Balkans, the Ukraine, most of Central Asia, Persia, North Africa as far south as the Middle Congo and as far west as Cameroon, but all of the Maghreb, and as far away as the Uyghur lands and India. I recreated the Roman Empire in a different shade of purple

I could have gone for a space victory but I went for culture victory in 1915. I haven't played another GEM map since because the speed is killer.

EDIT: Kazanoff, isn't what you just asked for what I pointed out above?

^I used to like playing GEM but the tech speed is way to slow for my preference.

Tell me about it--- writing 800 AD :crazyeye:

But it really ramps up due to the sheer size of your empires the classics Rome Greece China Japan can hold their own tech pace with smaller maps

Its the Earth 18 verions i like (smaller ) but i can hand draw their tiles from memorey, resouce, goody huts even the most likely Barb roads --- for every tile on the planet, same with RFC. the only surprise being "Oh look aforest has burnt down" or "Hmmm that's lucky, Poland have discover Gold with there mine"

I know i should play random maps, i just like semi historical nieghbours-- and the 35 civs on Gem-- with the start as minors opption-- civs can't even talk to writting --- or make peace till writing

Settle in place

Spoiler how to win.

Spoiler :
get iron working build a praetorian kill anything close to you build some more praetorians and kill everything that you can find. Press next turn until you won a domination victory:) Might have to send some settlers out after you killed the entire world that you can get to
:p

Why wait that long? Warrior rush Louis in France with your first warrior before he gets a second built. Then build a few more warriors and rush Fred, four or five should be enough. Go for early sailing to conquer England and by the time you get to spain you'll probably have axemen. Build over the burned capitals (the first one or two will be autorazed) THEN use praets to kill Alex and beat up Cathy so you're master of Europe. After that attack whoever is closest in the middle east, kill Egypt and Arabia, then march straight east until you win.

Game is over the second you start in Europe against the AI, without the higher level bonuses they cant defend against rushes.

I've done so, set up the required civs, but when loaded, the WB shows an immense green map without oceans, moutains or continents. It seems to be buggy...

happened to me once, the map was in the wrong folder forget exactly but it was in another mods folder ---- something to do with public /private maps , make sure the mod you using can access the map you want and that they are compatible ie patch btsVS warlords etc.

SORRY not much help

I had this problem. Follow the links and read the instructions carefully, the map is not being linked correctly. It's not that hard, if I can do it anyone can!

Reagrding the Map itself, I love having the option of simply picking the world leaders, however I dislike the new terrain that pops up. Seeing the Andes and Himalaya's disapprear seams to take away from the earth-map. Also Britain seams unfairly small.

Sorry to bother you again guys. It seems I'm def. not "anyone" as anyhow I can't make this work.

I've unzipped the map in both Firaxis/Civ4/BTS/Public Maps ; and in Mygames/BTS/Public Maps, but I always end up with this immense plain which really look like a bug.

I perfectly see how this is supposed to work, but I don't understand the logic of mods, scenarios and maps and where they should go...

Not sure exactly which mod you've got some have their own maps folders, so when you load the mod it might be accessing its own files like BTS RFC, just check you mods folder My docs/my games--- open mod see if it has private maps, could check if thiers a WBS in maps to

Mad, scroll to the VERY bottom of that thread, and you'll find a new version by an independent modder that fixes all of these problems. Also, any map problems, be sure to unzip everything in the winrar file to the PublicMaps folder.

EMT, thanks I got the new earth map and the giant earth map. the GEM looks like fun although I fear my computer is going to gag and die, and I have a pretty modern one! The new map looks good although I am a creature of habit and may take a little while to get used to a larger Europe! Thanks a million!

I thought so too about mine and I use a laptop. :crazyeye:

You could try playing with a specific number of civs that is lower than average. In my example, I chose random civs, and only 4, but if you want to fill it out, America, Inca, China, India, Russia, France, Egypt, and Zulu seem to fill it out enough. Contact will be somewhat slow but you'll certainly get through the game with only slight waiting times(hopefully).

In diferent Mods i seen Priests +1food +4cult/ +4gold +1hammer/ so a settled great person can have vastly different
