NukeNes XXV: The Berlin Conference

The United Kingdom cannot agree with Portugal's proposal as it conflicts with our desired claim of a land parcel connecting the southern reach of the White Nile to the northern bank of the Zambezi River.
Spoiler :

The United Kingdom also considers the French proposal for the Congo to be superior, although flawed and in need of fairer shares for all concerned parties. In addition, we see Italy's claim of French controlled territory to be unfounded and unacceptable.

Portugal has been trading along the Zambezi River for centuries. Based on the principal of effectivity it falls firmly within our influence.

The American Empire supports the German proposal regarding the Congo region whereby Belgium gains control of the region to promote freedom of trade and access for all countries.

The American Empire also supports the expansion of the Commonwealth of Liberia. We propose that the Commonwealth increase 2-3 times its current size. If no other nation offers any demand in this area we will provide a map for this.

Spain wishes to make the following suggestion for North-West Africa, a suggestion that benefits both Spain and France.

Note that Spain makes no other claims save for keeping its current territories in Spanish Guinea.

As for the Congo, we wish to know more about both proposals before picking a side.

When it comes to what actions are allowed if a nation fails to establish authority in their territories, the rights to those territories may be given to other nation if the other members of this Conference agree to it.

The United Kingdom understands Portugal's history of use of the Zambezi. We would not hinder Portuguese use of the Zambezi for commercial uses and would be willing to ensure the safety of any Portuguese traders traversing said river from natives.

France proposes the following compromise in the Congo. Under this plan, Belgium, France, Portugal and Britain each get a portion of the territory.

By giving Belgium control over the mouth of the river, free trade can be guaranteed in the region. France is willing to support other powers demands for free trade in the Basin, but our claims to the territory and those of other powers must not be ignored.

At this time we would like to unveil the full French claim in north and west Africa.

edit: We would like to note that the Libyan border in the above map is inaccurate. We have already made agreements with Italy over the Libyan border.

Stats have been changed, there will be no further arguing unless there is severe issues (Nuke, you deleted my Nation)

Will orders being due One week from today be acceptable? If not, let me know

It depends on if we can agree, or if we remain polarized.

Can we hold off for two weeks please? I imagine negotiations will take a while.

Also, why are people discussing Libya when it is currently an Ottoman holding?

Spoiler :
We feel that a nation such as Portugal should not be given control over such a large part of the Congo as they have proposed, we feel that a deal that allows the Congo to be traversed freely and without taxation is optimal, and best for all parties. We would prefer that a small, neutral power such as Belgium control the Congo Basin and it's major water ways.

Also at this time, we would like to announce The Kingdom of Italy's claims:

Italian North Africa:

Italian Somaliland and Eritrea:
That's why.

Connecting the Nile Basin to the Cape is but a pipe dream at this time. A connection between our colonies in Angola and Mozambique using the Zambezi river as the backbone is very possible. Indeed, many of our explorers have accomplished this crossing multiple times. Why must we surrender our right to this territory to appease the pie in the sky business dreams of Mr. Rhodes?

The French Claims have not taken into account our previous claims regarding Liberia. We have provided a map below showing Liberia's current borders and the claims for Liberia.

The Honorable Spanish representative would like to tell the Honorable French representative that he is out of his mind if he thinks that Spain will just keel over and accept this outright robbery of its inalienable rights to land in Northern Africa. We are willing to settle an agreement in regards to Morocco, but the rest of the Spanish claims are unnegotiable. France's claim in Northern Africa is, at least, five times the size of all Spanish claims.

We ask all nations to stop the French gluttony and do the correct thing by supporting Spanish claims in Northern Africa.

Spanish and British representatives already reached a solution over Morocco that had full French backing. However, Spain then backed out of that and began claiming a good deal of land. Until Spain comes back to us and agrees to negotiate honestly, our claim in Morocco is nonnegotiable.

Also, we were under the impression that Spain was about to keel over anyway. :mischief:

Those Spanish representatives did not actually represent Spain, but were instead people who had been sent to the conference by the Carlist pretender to the throne with false premises of representing the Kingdom of Spain. The actual, real representatives were those that made the later, more balanced and fair claims, that were not an insult in the face of the Kingdom of Spain.

After some discussions with the perfiduous, insulting and snail-eating French representatives, we are willing to accept the following claims. Please note that, despite the fact that they have no rights to it, we are willing to give up the city of Casablanca.

We also support the German plan for Congo.
