Korea and Ancient Wonders DLC Video!

I can't believe the wonders aren't just a free part od a patch. Thats going to be £3 for 3 wonders!!

I'll get Korea as I like having the civs but if they think they're getting my money for 3 buildings....

They really should balance this out in a a patch. I'd like to see each civ have 2 UUs and 2 UBs

Why..?

If you'll buy it together with Korea it'll be 1,50 for the wonders/scenario

To be honest, if it wouldn't be available as a double pack I wouldn't have bought it either (and this from a man who even bought the maps (unfortunately)).

Five bucks for three wonders...?

2.50 if you're planning on getting Korea. Granted, it seems like something they should sell for 99 cents, it's also not dramatically different than a map pack (and I liked the last map pack). Plus, you get a scenario. Ideally, they added new techs and stuff to it or at least something to justify the padded out time period.

The money also supports continued updates/patches/dlc... its not that bad...just a few bucks...skip that meal combo next time and you got your few bucks to spare ;)

The Korean color scheme is a little hard on the eyes, yes, but the colors are accurate! The colors are very recognizable if you've seen Korean art. :D

And I do think the Sejong leader screen is pretty awe-inspiring, lots of attention to detail and accuracy, and the colors are quite rich, rather than washed with brown ala Mongolia and England.

The Korean scenario is set in the Imjin war period of 1592-1598, when Toyotomi Hideyoshi invaded Japan after they refused to let Japanese troops through to conquer China. Ming China and Korea allied to take them down, and this was Admiral Yi Sun-Shin's finest hour (Turtle ships), and Korean guerillas harrassed the Japanese armies as they ravaged the countryside. Eventually Yi Sun-shin was able to cut off Japanese supply lines by sea, even after having been decomissioned as admiral due to petty Korean court intrigue (he was accused of treason after refusing to disband the navy and join the army). Thus Japan was defeated by China and Korea. Also the hwacha saw lots of use, as in the Siege of Hwangju, where thousands of Japanese samurai attempted to storm a Korean castle, only to be turned back by rockets, rocks and other projectiles. :)

Concerning the Wonders DLC, it sucks Sumeria and the Hittites are scenario-only, and that there are only 3 wonders added. But the good thing is the scenario will likely have unique units and art. I noticed the "Phalanx" unit in the video walkthrough, so hopefully unique Hittite and Sumerian units will also appear!

I don't like how they include scenarios with other stuff to artificially boost the price. I'm sure some people like scenarios, but I'm willing to bet most people are in it for the Wonders and the Civs and just play the basic game. That's my case.

Basically, I'd probably be ready to pay 4$ for Korea and the Wonders TOGETHER (although I think Wonders are either patch material, or proper expansion material, DLC wonders is a weak concept ethically, unless they are individual packs for like 99 cents... But I don't know if you guys realize that you're confusing a new customer... If I type Civ 5 in Steam store, good luck, I hate to try to look for a game and see 15 different DLCs and have to spend 2 hours researching my purchase). So yeah, these are my prices... That's it. And now I'm forced to buy stuff I don't want (scenarios..)

Forget it actually, I'm not forced at all. I'm just not buying it. Until it's down to a decent price. This is how I got most of the Civs; during the summer sale. I got all the DLC civs in one go during that sale for like 10$, which is what I consider an acceptable price. What was it... 5 civs for 10$? That's what I put the value at. It compares with Civ IV expansions like BtS, where you also paid a similar $/civ rate plus some additions.

More than this should be a no sale.

Too bad because the Korean civ looks amazing. Can't wait for 2K to price it correctly.

All in all I would buy the DLC's for more variety.

Cultural civ is more accurate for Korea, definitely not scientific. Both UU's are slow and strong, can defend against industrial-era units but cannot attack. The UA is also for settled GP but great artists are about the only GP you settle. Ditto for tech boast: it only pushes you at university, observatory and public school so you reach archaeology and radio. Even a one-off 2000 beakers boast won't speed up your science victory by more than a few turns; the only two things that matter are RA's and great scientists. Squeezing more science from specialists is pretty meaningless.

The new wonders are nice... to capture, not to build. I'm too busy with settlers and workers in the ancient era. If I want small kingdom it's still hanging gardens.

Three quite poor wonders, scenarios that I never play, and an overpowered civilization? First DLC (other than maps) that I'm not buying. You can get more wonders, all of which are more interesting AND new buildings for free with 'building made fun'.

They did a good job on Korea. They were not explorers or international traders. They were isolatoinists and killed anything that didnt look Korean.

The scientific flavour is based around Sejong the great and that particular period I'm guessing. Definitely more accurate than cultural in that time period at least.

The Korean civilization looks great and Sejong has to be one of the best leaderscreens I've seen. I really dont mind spending the money on both, once you realize how much work you have to do for the civs, it makes sense why it takes so long. Its not like civ 4 when they could slap together leaders and units like nothing.

When you think of it they have to do a study of the civ to create they traits and abilities, Study the leader to create him for diplomacy, then creating the leaderhead, hire someone to write sentences for the leader, hire someone to be the voice actor, Put the voice into the leader, hire someone to make to long peace and war scores for the leader, paying the musicians, study again for unique units, and finally create the units. I am probally missing some other work but this is fairly general. All this work for free, I think not.

I could be wrong, but it seemed to me the demonstrator was playing as Sumeria. It certainly looked like a Sumerian phalanx rather than a Greek one. So that might be a Sumerian UU, if you can really call the phalanx "unique" at that point in history. :p

I'm surprised. Does everyone really think Korea is another defensive Civ? I don't agree with it.
This Civ has boosted science and powerful Mid-era weapon.

Hwacha has 25 attack power. (In Mid-era!) It still 1 point more powerful than Trebuchet against City even if it does not have 50% siege promotion.
(Trebuchet has 16 Attack power. then it's siege power is only 24.)

Yes. Hwacha is very effective weapon both infantry and city. What a devastating weapon it is!

But, Turtle ship is...... not good. (Coastal ship? WTF)

You can't think about it like that... yeah you are playing the game several hours a week if not more.... but these numbers add up. Do you really want 150+ dollars invested in a single game? Obviously Firaxis isn't going to care if there is a buyer out there in this market.

Yeah but what about the artwork for the leaders of those civs? Maybe they will steal Babylon's Nebuchanezzar for one of them. Or they will have stills and there will be little to no diplomacy.

Nice Sejong intro screen art! Thanks Runens for posting it. Where did you find it?

For Sumeria and the Hittites they'll probably do detailed drawings for the leaders (static though) ala Denmark DLC's Hastings scenario.
