Singapore Destoyed Babylon: Had to share this!
Okay, so this is just me sharing a funny in-game experience. I've never experience this and it had me laughing out loud for a looong time
:As Askia, I beat down on Babylon when he entered a state of permanent war against Genoa and Singapore, to whom I was allied. Couldn't have that. Because I'm nice, I left him with one decent city. This also avoids the diplomatic hit of completely wiping out a civilization. So Babylon was no longer a threat to me and I more or less forgot about Nebby as I went to confront Catherine and Darius. However, Babylon remained at war with Singapore and Genoa. Well, 30 or so turns later, I get the popup informing me that Babylon has been defeated! Thinking Polynesia might have sent some troops down south, I quickly scrolled over the see what had happened. That's when I saw this: Spoiler:
I don't see City States take out AI cities very often, ESPECIALLY when they are pretty far from the AI city, AND it's a maritime City State... not to mention when it knocks an AI out of the game! I almost felt bad for poor Babylon... but now I have Akkad and it's resources added to the might of my ally Singapore. Thanks for indulging my vanity post! Note: Emperor, Fractal, Standard, Standard. |

I love it when CS take cities. My friend and I actually "lost" to a city state once. We were playing a 2v2 against 2 deity opponents ( we are no were near this skill level, so a quick loss was expected). Our last city to fall was my friend's capital, which after being crippled by Arabia was captured by a lone Quebec infantry.

It looks like Singapore is razing Akkad here. Has anyone ever seen them keep a 2nd city? I had it happen a couple times in one game a couple patches ago but haven't seen it since. I remember people being dumbfounded when I mentioned the 2 city CS before on here.

I've seen the 2 city CS a couple times too. Not sure I've ever seen them put the final bullet into a wounded civ before though. That's kinda cool.

Yeah, i have mostly seen City States puppet their conquered cities to be honest.
Another point, it's almost always Quebec City who does this. I assumed because it was once Copenhagen and they gave them aggressive flavour to match the perception of "aggressive Vikings"?

Since the last patch I've only seen City States raze captured cities. Pre-patch it seemed more common for them to puppet (at least in my games - small sample size, etc).

You've inspired me.
So I have an allied city-state on an island with a rival's city state. I have been friendly to that rival, but that doesn't mean I don't want to take a shot at them wherever possible. Think I could declare war on the other CS and then feed a strong military to my CS and let them conquer it? UPDATE: Didn't even remotely work. They never so much as fought a battle. I wonder if City states will even get a warmonger tag for eliminating two civs XD
Would be amusing to have civs come up to me for an alliance against a city state which been eliminating civs left and right. |

Singapore is weak. Check out my mighty ally Lhasa! She controls Babylon, Akkad, and Hanoi, Stonehenge and the Great Pyramids.

This event occurred late at night, just before I saved and quit. I hadn't noticed that Singapore was razing Akkad :-(
I have indeed seen City States keep cities in the past, but it doesn't really seem to happen anymore, which is sad. |

Usually the most important factor seems to be how much the CS border pushes into an AI's territory. The cities have to be pretty close. But if the first one is close enough, they tend to keep going. Just get the ball rolling and keep feeding troops. It's a very satisfying way to at least aggravate an AI, or to get automatic back pressure on a new continent, when you only have a foothold. Get those CS's at the rear of the continent powerful and attacking from behind! Edit: You can also make educated guesses as to whether a CS will invade an AI. Keep an eye on how many troops they have (augmenting them helps of course), but where they position their troops. Sometimes they seem to be pining for a fight

I assume you've all seen MadDjinn's China game where he purposefully gifts lots of units to city states and has them take over a bunch of cities, but here's the link anyways: http://www.youtube.com/user/SBFMadDj...10/zohe9Gi72Oc.

That's nice to hear. The most I've seen is a CS with 3 conquered cities. However, I personally haven't seen a CS keep a city post-patch, though I haven't played the new patch *that* much. Nice to know they'll still keep them!
