It's right there in the Autocracy War Academy article.

How many is usually an appropriate number of Samurai to go as your core army?
I had access to 14 iron, so I just massed the 14 Samurai with 3 promotions. Then upgraded to musketmen once I hit gunpowder. It was a lot of gold spent though. Just wondering if I overdid it, or if there's some magical number if you have way more iron than normal. |

Will there be an attempt to update the War Academy articles sometime soon? They're all so good, but sadly outdated now. The Japan article, for instance should make it clear that Japan wants to get to Steel then Gunpowder ASAP and avoid Metallurgy, so it can start popping an army of 3-promotion Samurai Musketmen and keep that loop going.

I frankly don't believe you overdid it, though. A carpet of properly upgraded Japanese Samurai can run right though almost anything. Just make sure you have the Honor policy that reduces upgrade costs by the time you get to Gunpowder. |
