Gold Disapearing So Quickly

Hello Fellow Civ Fans,

I have been meaning to post this question for feedback for a long time. How is it that at any point of the game mostly durng the middle to the end from 1200 to 2000 AD that you can set you science ratio where you can build up your cash reserves fairly quick and have around 5000 gold and then two or three turns later you have like 250 gold. I understand the use of spys and how they can steal your money but this seems to happen even when you have espionage turned off. I have never understood this part of the game where your gold can be so high and then a few turns later it's almost gone.

Any feedback positive or negative would be great. Also how to prevent your gold from beeing stolen. Do revolting cities take up gold quickly ? like I have described above.

Thanks

My guess: You have cities set on automated building, and you are running universal suffrage.
Yes, the computer do rush things.

This reminds me what Johan Cruyff once said while being Barça manager: "the money should be in the field, not in the bank". This seems to be governor's philosophy

Really? That corrupt b-star is probably funneling money to the brother-in-law, who happens to be a contractor.

That's exactly what Darth Vader was mumbling as he approached the green on 18.

I suppose if you have cities on auto-manage than the ai would switch your cities away from gold as your value ups and it thinks it is more prudent to invest in even more food or hammer... I keep my ai manager on but designate certain tiles as mandatory. I also make a sweep of all workable tiles and my borders regularly(and when a value jumps or falls dramatically). It is not uncommon for your economy to stumble when a unit is pushed out or after a policy change. Organized leaders are good for a reason.
