So this was my first game, I played as Russia. I can't remember what difficulty. I started off pretty successful and had one unit go around looking for other civilizations. Thats where I stumbled upon Japan and the Iroquois. I left them alone for awhile, doing my own thing before Japan contacted me saying I should go to war with the Iroquois with them. I said yes because I was a bit bored and wanted some action. So I started setting up my pitiful army and marching them toward the Iroquois's cities and before I even attacked one unit, they asked for a peace treaty. I accepted, but apparently I shouldn't have because since then throughout the whole game they literally hated my guts and always contacted me saying "Its a shame some larger leaders would take fun picking on lesser civilizations." I hadn't attacked them since the Japanese pact and had only conquered like one city state. Even after repeatedly gifting them supplies and opening my borders they still hated me. Thats why, at the end of the game, I got every city-state to join me and I declared war. I used 6 nukes on them, then went around and razed every single pitiful city they had. My best experience in Civilization 5 so far.
So, Whats your experience with Hiawatha?
After typing this, it kinda seems like the Japanese were the douchebags, oh well, I killed most of them as well

Since you're new at Civ 5 game, the moment you declare war for the second time each and nearly every other civ will recieve a negative modifier towards you, and you automatically become "warmonger menance to the world". The more you attack people, the bigger this modifier will be until everybody hates you.

Interesting. Does DOW on city-states count?

I'm wondering how I can get the Germans to DOW me on my current game.

Yes, if you attack City States, that's actually I think worse, but will still get the diplo hit.

If you wanna get attacked, the few things you can do to make them hate you more include :
- Denouncing Bismarck
- Demanding something from Bismarck
- Asking not to settle near you (never had a Civ say 'sorry' so that should give you another hit
- Ignoring their request (when they ask you not to settle or buy tiles nearby them), or even better, saying you won't do it and BREAK the promise.

Also, to avoid wars, never ever declare a war or denounce a civ you have a Deceleration of Friendship with since Civs don't like that.

This is the equivalent of calling them a "weak willed ill-spinned leader unfit to rule any kingdom at all". Don't do this unless you are absolutely sure you can trash that civ to bits .

I think it would be better to DOW Germany directly in this case as declaring on the CS would give you as much warmonger hate as declaring on Germany.

I really hope that G&K will either adjust the warmonger effect or give us a better means to provoke a situation with another nation. Ideally I'd love to see other nations be able to evaulate the situation before naming me a warmonger. If, for example, every nation is at war with say.. England, and you join in at request of another nation, you shouldn't get labelled a warmonger.

This makes sense, but I would probably denounce him first. You may then get other civs agreeing that "they are not to be trusted" or hoping that both denouncements will teach them a lesson, so you'll know who your allies are.
