BTW I strongly urge to the next players for going research as soon as we get out of things to build ( I already putted one city on it ). I really don't know how many time it will take for the AI to tech Currency and the last thing we want is a spiral of debt. We don't need more units for a while , since our power rate is 1.2-1.3 of the AI in our continent and we are not going on the offensive for now anyway. Besides that , building research will make future tech trades cheaper due to the invested beakers ... as long as we take care to not accidentally research one

just one thing I don't get: to solve money problem, why didn't you just research for priesthood (7 turns) and build ziggurats everywhere?

By rolo's comment of not "accidentally finishing a tech" he seems to be under the impression we cannot finish techs ourselves, but the rules don't state that. They indeed do state we cannot build research.

Maybe for the same reason bulbing MC with the GM isn't mentioned?

As to nolo being up, I'll have to ask for a skip/swap, as I'll be out of town from tomorrow till Monday.

Ok, ok ,I forgot the "no research" part. Anyway I haven't done it ( it is only queued in one city ), so no problem at all And anyway, alpha is a prereq for Currency....

@astre

We can't research to priesthood, remember ? We have some beakers in med, but unfortunately Asoka will not trade for it , so we don't even can trade for the prereqs effectively.

@ nocho

You are swapped. IO is UP

ok, it seems that there is a misunderstanding.

when we see the "rules" of the variant:

Quote:
- 100% cash after getting this techs:

Fishing
Agri
Wheel
Hunting
Mining
Myst
AH
BW
Masonry
Pottery

- No Rep civic before Constitution

- No research build
It is not mentionned that we can't learn a tech by our own research.
I'm ok with that rule anyway, but what about the other team?

Just a quick heads up on my playing situation: I'll be back in around 4 to 6 weeks, it will take that long to get Internet in my new flat...

You should probably skip me. Unless you want worse-than-usual play, I won't be good until Tuesday.

50-hour work weekend* going on right now.

Hey, if you want worse-than-usual play, I can bang out a set. But... I don't think it'd be very good. I've had a total of about 9 hours of sleep the last two days.

I don't get this. Why can't we set our 0% research to med and PH? There's nothing in the rule set forbidding that.

By the way, I'd use the GE to bulb MC so we can build forges everywhere.

You're right, OFC . I just didn't remembered if I had explicitely forbidden self-research ( it looks that I didn't and it is too late for that, I assume ). Pls proceed as if had not said anything

Quiet builder set, where we actually made some tech progress by bulbing MC, self-teching @0% meditation and priesthood and by doing this deal, which I deemed worth it especially for cutting jungle.

Cutting jungle gave access to 2 gem tiles and if that weren't enough Nidaros also popped a gem. We have iron at Nidaros too as well as in Lagash.

With perceived increased revenue from gems and with ziggs around the corner went ahead with settling Ur.

Got some ziggs out in former Scandinavia, as well as the first forges. Hand over the set after 10 turns.

Did some scouting. We have Long Island to the west of Amsterdam.

And we got views of England:

And India:

Note I sent some vultures out 4S of Uppsala, not to capture Illinois (Asoka is trying hard), but because the Vedic Arryans spawned overthere, but seemingly suicided somewhere else.

Techwise we're here. Decided to sit on MC, may be good bait for currency.

And this is what we're building right now.

Note the Colossus, just queued it and can be done in 6 turns. Good for GP points and obviously for water tiles we may work. Queued the bud monastery in Nidaros to get ourselves to full bud and be buddies (wink, wink) with Asoka. We'll need a friend before WFYABTA kills us.

With rolo's new rule we're far enough in the green to use the settler in the capital somewhere, but not sure where.

Just a thought, but would domination be possible early? A bit of a possible anti-climax as the variant wouldn't be explored much, but we're already at 25% land. If we conquer India and England, fill up the rest of the continent and possibly that island (just need sailing) there may be enough land to reach the required 64%... Somebody do a tile count!

IO, go and take it, then. I'll play after you.

Tile-wise, including Long Island we might in fact be able to get to 64%. However, for now, that doesn't make such a big difference in strategy methinks. Either way we need our ziggurats and markets, then settle the remaining open land.
Once we're done with that, we'll easily have enough production to quickly crush everyone standing in our way.

A pretty boring set. The Vedic Aryans were found, they're hanging out down in Gaul near the South English coast. Buddhism is spread to every city but Birka, and there's a missionary there. Ziggurats are being built in places, we're starting to make a bunch of cash. No Currency, but Asoka has Math and Monarchy to throw around, if we're interested. We got a Great Scientist in the capital, I've been keeping him on ice. In addition...

There are 909 tiles total on the map.

Of those, we can access 617 (assuming mountains count as land), or 609 (assuming they don't). Assuming the latter, that's 66.99% of the landmass.

Just saying.
