mmhh...another random possibility would be to toggle the fullscreen option in one of the .ini files.

Do you mean starting the game mode up in DirectX9 mode or using the DirectX installer that can be found in the game files? Because I've tried both to no avail.
I just tried that too, and I've still got the problem. |

Civ5 on Win8CP
Is anyone running Civ 5 on the Windows 8 Consumer Preview? I just installed the game via Steam the yesterday, but I can't get the game to load past the DirectX selection screen. No matter which DirectX mode I select, nothing... no error message.... no black screen.... no intro video.... no menu.... just the Windows 8 Desktop.
![]() Other Steam games work just fine, including Civ IV. I am using the latest Nvidia GeForce drivers (release, not beta). I have attached my dxdiag.txt file. I believe my hardware should be sufficient (although certainly not optimal) but I could be mistaken. |

I just checked, and I apologize, but Windows says that you cannot remove it. You may try to re-install windows or find a good system restore point. Going to help and troubleshooting and typing in system restore should talk you through how to find one.
