I was controlling all of them for a while in my first game back, then it started to get too cumbersome so I let them all automate after that. My outcome so far seems to be okay (I tend to go for non-aggressive civs and shoot for cultural or diplomatic victories). Any thoughts? Help is always appreciated. Loving getting to play again.

Oh, and I have the Civ3: Complete if that makes a difference...its the one with all the expansion packs, etc
Never, never, never, never automate workers. If you do that, you let the AS control them, and the AS is incredibly inept at managing workers. Always manage them by yourself. If it tends to become too cumbersome, try to play a smaller map.

A human player can be much better at operating workers over the computer, when I automated workers they changed all my irigated tiles to mines, which I didn't want them to do so I had to stop them before they ruined my empire. I usually only tend to automate them for cleaning up population because it becomes tedious having to try and send workers every turn to clean it up, the down side is that sometimes when I don't notice when a volcano went off in the past and is in my territory they will all go running out to clean it up but it usually doesn't take too long to clean up if there is enough workers

So, we're agreed. Never automate. When you do, use the Automate: No altering command.

Thank you all so very much for the help. I am so glad I asked. And I thank you all for being kind and not slamming me for my questions. I know some forums are pretty harsh to newbie questions, you know?

Anyway - cheers again and thank you for helping me with game play. It is incredible how rich and layered this game is. So very addictive.

After some years I have to do a fresh install of C3C and now I don't remember the patch order.

C3C + 1.22 patch is enough or do I need to install 1.20 patch first?

And why 1.22 on Firaxis site is smaller (20.6 MB) than it is on Civfanatics download section (24.2 MB).

Thanks.

New versions are launched but C3C still the best game of the series to me.

C3C usually implies Civ III Complete. if that is the case you don't need any patches.

If you mean Conquest you should only need 1.22... iirc

I have only C3C, bought ten years ago. No "Play the World", nor "complete version". Just C3C.

Anyway, thanks for the info about 1.22.

Then you mean that you have only Vanilla - that is just Civ III. That one I believe must be patched to 1.29

C3C is not a correct notation for Vanilla. I have seen it used for Civ III Conquests and for Civ III Complete.

Ok, I understand what you mean. Actually it is Vanilla plus Conquests what I have - both cds were on my Conquests box.

I reinstalled Vanilla and applied 1.29, then Conquests, and finally 1.22. It's working fine.

Oh good... it's just not right to be without Civ III

Just a quick question....

I tend to play small maps/continents and I have been trying to do a 20K just because I haven't done it yet. My problem is that my Civ's culture score will win before my City score. I have been thinking that I might have to go up a map size to push back the civ score. what say you all? yes? no?

I have been playing as the Byzzies for the use of the coast and the cheap science/culture points. Would you recommend a different civ? Babylon seems a natural choice but I like that coastal start.

Yes, Persia is a good alternative Civ for a 20K Victory.

There are 5 Masters who dominate the Hall Of Fame table for 20K/Small Map Victories:

http://hof.civfanatics.net/civ3/inde...mall&submit=Go

You can download their final game saves at the above web site and see how they did the deed. (I.e. Game Replay feature of Civ Assist II.)

Good Luck darski.

Where's all the extra culture coming from? If you've built temples and cathedrals, remember that you can sell them again; 1000y.o. temples in particular will be making a problematic amount of culture, while their happiness contribution is negligible, especially compared to a cathedral with Michelangelo.

Also bear in mind that you won't win by 100k if there's an AI with more than half your culture.

Hi,

I am a long time reader (and C3C-Player), but just registered in the forum.

While I played Civ for a realtiv long time, I think that I am still a poorly player and absolute beginner in editing.

I just startet to modify my game and changed some of early seaunits.

The galley has been replaced by the Longship for the Vikings, a Nile Bark for the Egypts and the Coq for all northeuropean Cultures.

The Caravel has been replaced by a Mediterran Galley for the mediterran Cultures (Surprise! ) and by the Junk for the asian Cultures.

As first Surprise all AI-Civs started to massproduce the Curagh then they allready got Caravels/Junks/Mediterran Galleys and used them as escorts for the newer ships. Before that I have not seen a single AI-Curagh in any game.

The second Surpries was, that I seems to interrupt the upgrade routes for some Civs.

Caravel/Junk/Mediterran Galley = Galleon - OK
Galley = Mediterran Galley - OK
Cog = Caravel - Ok
Galley = Junk - no Upgrade
Galley = Caravel/Carrack/Junk - no Upgrade
Curagh = Galley - Ok
Coragh = Dromon/Cog - no Upgrade

Is there a trick to have several upgrade routes for one unit?

Thanks!

PS: I hope my post is understandable as I am not a native english speaker.
