The year is 2038.

Africa

The People's Republic of Ethiopia

The People's Republic of Ethiopia became an officially recognized nation very recently, in 2029. Based out of the lands held by the theocratic Kingdom of Solomon, ruled by the tyrannical King Odo Taeribi, better known by his self chosen title of Prester John. He bullied the unfaithful into serving him, and led the Monophysite Christians of the area that is reall world Ethiopia into a zealous war frenzy. He proceeded to use this to conquer Somalia, Djibouti and Eritrea by 2019. He then spent the rest of his rule growing fat off of the tithes stolen from the people, and using mercenary Somali pirates to create holds in Yemen, Qatar and Kuwait, as well as many islands in the Indian Ocean. However, his hedonistic lifestyle was too much for the downtrodden poor, who, led by a Russian teacher working with Unicef who was a great follower of Lenin's old ideals and hated the downtrodden lives of his students, overthrew Prester John. Within 3 years the revolution was complete, and the Russian, Romain Durevoff, was elected the First Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Ethiopia. He died 6 years later, and has since been replaced by Prime Minister Ishmael Uridob, a half-Israeli who had been Romain's second in command.

The Islamic Republic of Congo

In 2036, the National States of America used their influence over the rulers of the Congo Basin to attempt a coup to conquer the region and establish a foothold in Africa. However, in the deepest reaches of the jungle surrounding the Congo river, a defense was created. The Afro-Asiatics of the Sahara who had brought Islam to the natives of the Congo so long ago, had ancestors willing to fight brutally for their independence. Banding under the mayor of Kisangani, Askid bin'Tulba, these people are fighting a guerilla war for Allah, and for the independence of all of Africa from Fascist regimes.

The Derelict of the Kusini

The first African Derelict to be formed, Kusini was created when Boer warlord Jan d'Sgribo of Luderitz used his charisma to gain an advantage with both his own people and foreigners. This allowed him to rise to power in Namibia, and through that take control of Angola, Zambia and Botswana. By the time foreigners were exposing him as a power-hungry tyrant, his people were so brain washed that he was an unstoppable force in the area. Founding history's first true derelict, his people are completely brain washed to his will or destroyed. He proceeded to conquer Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe before his death in 2030. The derelict was left to his son, Ruyton d'Sgribo, who continued his father's supreme lord-ness, but has yet to take any military action. But that is likely to change.

The Derelict of the Sudan

Not based off of Sudan in the modern sense, but in the traditional one, as a name for regions south of the Sahara. Its history is simple, the Prime Minister of Sudan, Beri E'Loyion, brainwashed his people into a military force and used them to conquer Chad, the Central African Republic, Niger, Nigeria and Cameroon. He has then been biding his time, waiting for the perfect moment to attack his neighbors.

The Derelicts of the Mali and Songhai

The Derelict of the Sahara was built by Kenji "Water-Bringer" Douba for his prophetic wisdom and kind leadership of the people's of the region, contrast to that of other Derelicts, in 2019. He died shortly after this unification, with no official heir, leaving his sons Mansa and Abra fighting for the rule. These two eventually divided into two separate Derelicts, with Mansa in Mali and Abra in Songhai. Songhai is smaller, but has a higher population and more brutal rule, while Mali is the larger of the two, but lacks the strength and cruelty to be truly vicious. Who knows who shall win.

City-States of the Ghana Coast

Along the Ivory and Gold coasts, normal African independence has been maintained, albeit slightly more individualized. These City-States have large amounts of room to grow, but must be wary of their Derelict neighbors. Particular powers are the cities of Benin, Accra and Abidijan.

Foreign Occupation

-Parts of Kenya and Tanzania have defected to the German Union for protection of from the nearby Derelicts. This provides the Germans with easier access to the riches of Asian and African trade, as well as a foothold against the mostly Nationalist colonized continent.
-South Africa has been claimed as part of Britain's Project Commonwealth, and is being used as a harbor for warships that prevent enemies from safely bringing foreign cargos.
-Egypt has been claimed as part of Britain's Project Commonwealth, with the hope of using it as a base to help aid the coming fight in the tense Middle East.
-The Territory of Morocco, though technically independent, is mostly overseen by its Iberian allies in Spain.
-The North African Coast, from Algiers to Sinai, has answered the Sultan's Call to aid Allah and joined as part of the nationalist Ottoman Empire, which was founded in 2009.
-Much of the Congo basin is occupied by American troops on "peacekeeping" missions.
-Madagascar is being occupied by France, who have troops stationed there to prevent revolt
-Many of the islands near the West Coast of Africa are under Iberian jurisdiction

Asia to come soon.

I was curious so I looked it up on google. Seems we have a bot that has copied a random chunk of Israelite's post from page 16 of this thread. From six years ago, no less. Still, could be a message to us from unseen powers

Also, I wish to acknowledge Lokki242's post though I have no comments to make at this time.

Would you guys be more involved in an IOT-esque thing than the actual IOT-ers? Because I'd like to set up something like this: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=463134 but it sort of died with a whimper in IOT.

Yeah, I kinda figured it might, but I couldn't think of a way to get a map to fit the framework of the game.

Problem is, filling out the tables was kind of confusing. I'd have gladly kept going if not for that.

I believe I have fixed my calculator program now, so you'd just have to calculate taxes and initial allocations (and even then just Conventional forces, imports, and exports.)

That 19th century NES I was planning earlier? That's now pushed aside until a number of other things (Most notably SKNES part II) get done. The 19th century NES I am aiming to be a masterpiece, so it's not showing up for a while.

Um... doesn't work like that. Players will be players, and while some NESes subconsciously gives a plot that a good mod can take advantage of, other NESes are just series of non sequitors which a Mod as to attempt to link together in the update. If you want a masterpiece, try writing a good Alt History.

Excised in the name of dictatorship.

Yeah it's a specific type of bot that picks up old posts and then spams them to make itself look legitimate, eventually posting advertisements/links. It doesn't work so well on here, but if it was on a forum where people only oogled hot babes or posted recipes or something, you can see how it would work. These things were plaguing OT a few months ago back when the servers seemed to be running like crap.

Something I've always struggled with, in terms of NES's has be the tech-tree, and my inability to correctly get one working. Most of my NES's have taken place at some point in the Modern Age, and I have always found my lack of knowledge is certain fields of technology fairly lacking, and it has led to a lot of arguments, mental anguish, and otherwise unhappy things.

To avoid having to deal with the types of technologies that I have proven myself to be unable to reasonable deal with, I've been working on a map for a possible fantasy-style NES. My thinking is, it would be a city-state-style NES, and take place in a classical time-period. Players would, at first take control over a city, take over surrounding areas, deal with expanding your population, army, trade, and barbarians.. etc. Technology, while a part of the NES, shouldn't be something that will make me bang my head on the wall.

Everything from government, to culture and religion would be customary, and can be as boring, or in-depth as the player wishes. If you'd rather have a maritime power, a culturally significant peaceful state, or a barbarian horde sacking and rampaging is completely up to the player. Even naming the towns, lakes, seas, rivers, and mountains will be left to the players.

Eventually, after a few turns, certain city-states could expand, and become their own empires.. or whatever the player wishes.

Manpower would be important to control and maintain.

Some thoughts I had, was that each city could recruit a certain amount a turn, Civ style, or build certain things each turn. The more cities you have, the more people you have, the larger your army and such.

I'd want army and culture types to be varied and interesting. While nations in some regions might adopt a Greeco-Phalanx type military, others may chose to take on a more mercenary style army like Carthage.

A lot of questions are still bouncing and around in my head, so feel free to ask me some, so I can fill in the blanks. The map is still very much a WiP.

Tonight, I might try to work on some base stats, if I find the time.

Any comments, ideas, or what have you would be greatly appreciated. Like I said, this is still in the beginning stages of development.

EDIT: I've also decided that I'd run the NES preliminarily for about 10-15 turns. If it is going well, I'll expand it, if not, It'll die.

EDIT EDIT: Deleted the map.

from what you have said so far, I'd definitely play.
As for the map, it looks good, although I'd go ahead and add a landmass (or part of a landmass) in the SW.

Thanks SK. I toyed around with the map a bit more, and feel sort of satisfied with it. I deleted it from above, as exploration (for the sake of commerce, or protection) is a part of it, at least for the first few turns.

The map, for all purposes is completed, including a rough (note: rough) topography map to go along with it.

Eltain has helped me with templates a bit, it's mostly just finding one I don't think will kill the NES.

For the NES, should I have players pick from available regions to start their own city-state/kingdom, or should they have to pick from pre-determined nations? Or perhaps a mixture? Where players are is determining where I'm going to place some pre-designed barbarians/other nations with their own personalities (If you could call it that). I want this to be rather customary for the players, so I'm leaning towards the first option. Any thoughts?

EDIT:

Spoiler for Blank Map:

Spoiler for Topographic Map:

At this point, the only thing really impeding the release of this, is how I should start the NES, and my dissatisfaction with all the templates I've been making. Perhaps after a night of sleep, something will come to me. XD

Have us pick from regions.

And yes, that's 'us' because I'm in.
