I wouldn't put too much faith in that. Amon's a powerful water bender and he seemed to handle getting hit with lightening without any ill effects so I think he could have survived an explosion on a boat. I think he might be back as a villian next season.

The Season wasn't built to tie in with a second one. This was a miniseries after all, that's why everything was resolved in the finale. Amon and Tarrlok are dead dead dead.

I certainly hope so. As for the next season, I realized that the only question unanswered is how Amon learned how to remove bending. Maybe the mysterious figure who taught him this trick will make an appearance, possibly as a villain?

However, I have my fingers crossed that Sato will graduate to being the next villain. The man's a mechanical genius, and he could easily take Amon's place in the anti-bender revolution. Not to mention that movement may become even more dangerous after seeing Amon was a bender all along.

Also, I think I'm going to enjoy "Uncle Bumi" next season.

Great ending, but Mako... wow. Dude. At least break up with Asami first.

It felt a bit rushed, but since they had originally planned to have it wrapped up as a stand-alone series, I'll go with it. There were some things I liked and some things I didn't.

Yeah, the cliched romance was the only downside to the episode. A minor nitpick, but still a bit disappointing. I'm still hoping that Korra will get with someone else by the end of the second season.. Still have my fingers crossed for Bolin.

Thoughts: Good until the last ten minutes. The very last scene was touching but I wish they'd set it up better for season 2. (Rather like the ATLA finale, come to think of it). There were some aspects to it that really made me mad, but overall I liked it. Guess it's time to start waiting again. 7.5/10

Korra power rankings:
Episode
6: And The Winner Is...
3: The Revelation
9: Out Of The Past
8: When Extremes Meet
10: Turning The Tides
5: The Spirit Of Competition
11: Skeletons In The Closet
2: A Leaf In The Wind
1: Welcome To Republic City
4: A Voice In The Night
7: The Aftermath

More to come later

Bolin's character feels like a forced and poorly executed Sokka. I was happy with how largely he was ignored in the finale.

I was really angry at how she wasn't able to go into Avatar state until the last 5 minutes of the season... I mean, that's the main perk of being an Avatar, right?

Sorry for possible double post but on a semi non-related topic:

Quote:
Book Two
The second season, Book Two, will consist of 14 episodes. According to the series' creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, about half will take place in Republic City and half in other areas of the world.[13] As of June 2012, Book Two's writing had been completed and the season was in the process of being storyboarded and animated.[14] No broadcast date has been announced.

If Korra can enter the avatar state at will ( shown when she cured Lin) can there be any antagonist who will pose a challenge in season 2. I'm thinking the creators will change this such that she has no control of the avatar state till season 2 finale .

I don't think she has full control over the Avatar State yet. It took Aang so long to do it and he was much more in touch with his spiritual side than Korra is. If it was that hard for Aang to do, I doubt Korra could learn it so quickly.

I really expect that there is going to be a timeskip for the next book.

I agree. I think there will be something akin to the Aang-Yakone story or the the Kyoshi-Chin the Great story (only more in depth and more drawn out.) where a fully fledged Avatar Korra will have to deal with a major threat to balance. Moreover, I trust the creators' ability to establish stakes and craft a dangerous scary villain for somebody as strong as a fully realized Avatar to fight, possibly in the process altering her own view on life.

Timeskip could mean older airbender kids , who can have some awesome fights. It would also mean further advances in technology.

Only challenge to Avatar state that I could visualize could be technologically advanced machines . I don't enjoy fights of bending versus machines as much as bending vs bending battles. (exception Iroh taking out a fleet of airplanes).

Why would you enjoy watching a guy be completely incompetent and get nothing done. A bit masochistic, don't you think?

Well I want a bender to be the primary antagonist in the second season as well. I really enjoyed those bender vs bender fights in ATLA . I think the writers can think of some creative ways to challenge a fully realized avatar as you have said . But I just don't want the solution to be more mecha .

I speculate we can have something like the day of the black sun equivalent which drains the power of the avatar. Or maybe there is a particular week during which connection to spirit world is lost entirely. Or there can be a certain spirit which somehow cuts off Korra's link with the spirit word . Or there is a certain someone who is in spirit world and destroying all spirits throwing the word into chaos. Korra must go into spirit world where she cannot use avatar state and rescue the spirits while saving people in the real world is done by her gang .

There can be tons of way to stop Korra bulldozing everything in her way with Avatar state . But let the solution not be more mecha and technology .

Edit: There is also the bender non-bender conflicts , confrontations to solve which would require diplomacy, finesse rather than all powerful avatar state.

That could actually fit in with my theory that we'll see the guy who showed Amon how to block bending abilities in the next season. Definitely someone with more powerful bending abilities or a strong spiritual presence.

As for the mechas and technology, I want to see much more of that, not less. I'm a sucker for steampunk.

So for someone who isn't really interested in the series, but had enjoyed watching a few episodes of the last airbender here and there and kind of understands the politics of the world, is this show worth watching?

Yeah. It still has that same nice blend of wit and seriousness that made ATLA such a good show. The characters aren't quite as good, but the city and universe Bryke create is rich and immersive. Zuckerman actually manages to outdo himself on the music, which I think far and away exceeds ATLA's. The action is great and the animation is superb. So in short, yes, it is worth watching.

I loved Legend of Korra. But they needed 12 more episodes in the initial story arc to really flesh things out to sheer epic awesomeness.

I was solely disappointed when Korra got back her Water, Earth and Firebending. I was convinced that the second season had her travel around the world so she could reconnect her spiritual link with the other elements while improving her connection with airbending and spirituality so that she can do more than air punch her way to victory. It would be cool seeing her retrace GAang's steps at the Spirit Oasis in the Northern Water Tribe, visit Firelord Zuko on Crescent Island or something like that (and learn what happened to his mother) and go to Omashu or Ba Sing Se to see some sacred earthbending shrine, while making a pitstop at the Southern Air Temple.

But noooooooooooooooo. Dues ex machina her bending back.
