I just don't understand why you wouldn't just worldbuilder in a couple of gold mines and call it a day. It has the same effect of running mapfinder for a month and is much greener for the environment.

HoF prevents / forbids the use of Worldbuilder.

Ok, I have a map for you, that's (imo) beyond ridiculous.

Leader: Pericles
Map type: Inland Sea
Difficulty: Deity
Gamespeed: Marathon
Mapsize: Standard
Options: I think it has No Vassal States, but HoF doesn't show... As ever from me, with Huts, with Random Events
Opponents: Asoka, Ghandi, Hatty, Mansa, Lincoln, Lizzy

So everything is set up for a Cultural Victory, but be prepared, the tech-tempo on that map is beyond ridiculous because all AIs like each other (peaceweight), but, you got this start:

What makes this map strong is not the start, but...
Spoiler:
  • The surrounding terrain is godlike imo.
  • You got etremely much space to expand, I peacefully rexed to 9 cities without any problems.
But...
Spoiler:
  • You have neither Marble, nor Stone. It's likely you'll be able to trade for Marble, but you probably have to live without Stone, anyhow, this is only a minor thing.

THE MAP REQUIRES THE BUFFY MOD!

Got one for ya! Easy-win monarch, even for newbies! Got tipsy one night and decided to roll some Hannibal/monarch/pangea maps for easy domination, and I got this:
Spoiler:

Ok, nothing too outlandish, but... Oh whats that? Bronze showing in 3880AD? Thats right! Scored BW from a hut with the starting warrior! Then Masonry a short bit later. I have the post-Masonry save for anyone who wants a winner. Let me know! I finished it in 700-something AD with 270K or so points. Said it before and I'll say it again... I love me some Numidian Cav!

Also, not my start, but it was mine not long after starting:

Spoiler:

Monty spent all that his time building work boats, and lost it all to four phalanxes because it was garrisoned by two archers when I got there. Poor, poor, dumb Monty, lol.

Turned that place into a super-Scientist dream-farm, btw.

I do not have a screenie of it, but once I was playing as the Aztecs, and I managed to find five tribal huts around me. Four, and I'm not joking, four of those tribal huts gave me a settler. At leash 30 turns saved from settler producing? Oh yeah.

Spoiler:

I don't know if this is in the spirit of the thread, but for a different sort of ridiculous start, I popped Mysticism, the Wheel, Masonry, and Sailing all in succession from my first four goody huts. With a warrior. On noble.

I think that at pop 8 with the colossus you're pulling in 39 commerce and 19 hammers, give or take trade routes. I smell a bureaucracy capital

That city is madness but I would have settled on the western gold for the extra hammer and commerce. Also less sea tiles.

None of the golds would have given you extra commerce, as they are not riverside.

I don't know if it should even be in this thread. It should probably be in the Funny Pics thread with no caption, because people can just LOL by looking at it

I prefer gems over gold.
The -2 food from a gold-tile makes it a pain to work at all times.
A tasty gem is food neutral most of the time, which is awesome.

I prefer gems as a tile, but gem starts are often jungle heavy starts (due to where map builder places them). Due to that I often prefer gold starts

I stumbled across this map as Hannibal, but rerolled it because it only has a single gold:

Spoiler:

Actually no, Im playing it now. Carthage is settled 1S of the Cow, and second city on the Silk - the settler is moved in this screenshot

Its on Immortal. Oh, and theres also a Horse 2W of the gold.
