The Irrational AI and Your Pet Peeves
Hello community! I am new to Civilization 5 and the Gods and Kings Expansion by a few days. I am thoroughly enjoying the game, despite a few minor issues. I'm opening this thread to introduce myself and to open a thread about fun experiences about this game.
I am the type of player who is non-aggressive, even if that includes preemptive defensive attacks. I try to stay peaceful and I don't bug anybody. Right now I am playing on Prince difficulty, and in this particular game I was playing as my all time favorite ancient culture, Egypt. I was Friends with Austria. They did not border me and we had about seven green statements and no reds. I was giving them money and luxury resources every turn for free. Everything is hunk dory until they denounce me. Now, there is nothing that I hate more than disloyalty and dishonor. Not tolerating this treachery, I built up a force of 8 Artillery and some Riflemen over the course of three turns with my massive treasury. I chewed her up and spit her up, everything being a puppet of me, including the Great Wall of Egypt. Three turns later Japan make the same mistake that she made. What are some event in the game that made you smile and have fun? I'd love to hear! Cheers |

I loved when I liberated Brussells while playing as Egypt, because Brussells is Cultured CS, I usually ally myself with cultural CS for quicker Culture Victory.
My biggest pet peeve is probably the ridicolous peace offerings, I ain't giving 90% because you defeated my Scout/barely won... I refuse and the wars just go on FOREVER. I usually remain peaceful, if somebody makes me mad, I have revenge, just recently, Suleiman once again attacked me, this time, I was prepared with my old army, I just ugpraded them (I play on Warlord, so I retain a tech lead). and then just procceeded to squash his mere army, I also took over a second city of his (I took Ankara earlier, during the first war). Suddenly, Wu decided to join in, but she's like the last person on the score list, so I took over one of her cities in like 3 turns with my naval warfare, glad to finally see it in use.

Vanilla game. Playing the Iroquois. I had blitzed England earlier and am master of my continent. Greece is at the north end of the other continent. Persia is at the south end and is the runaway ai, having absorbed India and Azteca, with gold to burn.
Alex keeps talking smack at me, I ignore him, focusing on developing the continent, till my military advisor tells me that Alex is weak. I check the diplo information and he is an era behind. Now my Iroquois are curbstomping Alex silly, about to eliminate Alex from the game. Then it'll be down to me and Persia. |

AIs tend to have some strange reasoning.
Ghandi attacks my Korean civ, thinking its cool to smack talk "peacefully" then start rolling in violence later. After crushing his large portion of army and taking a city, with minimal lost on my end, he offers peace treaty demanding me to PAY HIM for the signing of treaty. I WON, AND YOU ARE ON A RETREAT!! NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND!!! So I just chucked him a few luxury items instead of gold, which will be revoked when the peace treaty is over, as I'm going to DoW on him or perhaps he will on me, but then here is the thing. All other civs start calling me WARMONGERER. WTF! |
