Strength Maximum crashyness after G&K expansion.

So I boot up Civ as usual, and start a game. There are no signs of anything being wrong. The game runs smooth, and my computer seems completely okay with it. Then, without forewarning, everything fails. This is at about 60 turns ingame. It starts with the screen going black, and ultimately loosing input all together. The first time I had this bug, the USB ports on my computer even failed.

Anyways, nothing works when the game has crashed. Not CTRL-ALT-DELETE, mouse movements or any other commands. I can't even use the reboot button on my computer, I have to turn it all the way off, and then on again.

This problem came with G & K, and I've never seen anything like it before.

I can upload my dxdiag if you think that will help, but I'm absolutely sure that there's nothing wrong with my computer. Newest drivers and good hardware.

Anything that has to do with threading has been tried, there are no foreign letters, and yes - I have turned the computer on and off

Finally, I've also tried launching in dx9 mode, since some people round the internetz have been telling me that might work. Well, that doesn't even launch. Don't know if there is any correlation between the problems though. Whenever I click "Launch in DX9" mode, the dialogue box disappears for a second or two, just to pop back up. This happens again and again whenever I try the DX9 option.

EDIT: DXDIAG here - http://pastebin.com/4wn0w7Ra

Have you tried deleting the .wmv files in both CivV and G&K directories?

I'm having the same problem, my drivers and computer are also up to date. The computer has only crashed/frozen when G+K was up.

What would deleting the .wmv files do?

The .wmv files are related to crashes during the start, not ingame, so this doesn't apply for you :/.

Could you check in the root of the Civ V directory (where the EXE's are located) and let me know if there are any recent .mdmp files there? If so, could you please attach them here and we'll take a look?

Thanks much.

Random Game Crashes

I have been playing Civilization V for quite a while, but only recently has this been happening. After I play the game for a while (ranged between 50-150 turns or so) and I end my turn, the game just freezes. In Task Manager it shows up as Not Responding. The little globe that you get when you end your turn is still there, and the music still plays, but it never completes the turn, instead the game simply freezes other than the cursor and the music. I've made sure all my display drivers for GPU and CPU and everything are updated, but I'm really confused as to what the problem is as I have only experienced it lately. Any responses are welcome. Thank you

Mr. Shirk, unfortunately the file extensions aren't supported on the Civfanatics forums. We could probably email the files to you or someone else interested in looking at them, however.

Please let us know what we can do to get the game running again! I was just about to attack Boudicca when the crash happened...

I too have been experiencing crashes with similar frequency! Dennis Shirk is looking into it, try zipping any MDMP files under Program Files > Steamapps > Common >Sid Meier's Civilization V. Then attach them here and Dennis Shirk should see it.

Hopefully they patch this out. I'm afraid to play G+K again in case it causes my laptop to crash.

Change the file extension to something that is accepted and it will have to be changed back when downloaded.

You should have some form of zip facility - right click on the file in explorer and select send to, is the an option for compressed?

Oh right, that is an important point. It only seems like I began experiencing this issue with the G&K expansion, silly that I did not notice. I'll do that, hopefully get this solved soon... I've resorted to saving my game very 5 turns

Random Computer Shutdown

Hi all, I'm experiencing random shutdowns while playing Civ 5 GnK. I have no idea what causes it. As soon as I reboot, I check the event logs of my computer and nothing's showing. ANyone experiencing the same problem?

Exact same problems here as RitzyCat describes and it started with the upgrade to 1.0.1.674. I had not played for many months and Steam auto-upgraded when I started Civ up after that time.

When last I played the game was bulletproof and ran much faster. I notice that Civ is using almost 1gig of VM, but I don't know what it was using in the past so this may have nothing to do with the freezing up. Thank goodness for autosave!

Anyone else experiencing my Shitdown Problems? (it doesn't just crash, it shuts down and I can't find the culprit in Event Viewer.)

You kids won't believe the crashes I've seen.. Pixels lying face down in the screen, all black and stuff.

What I'm saying is - you two have a different problem. Get your own thread!

Hey, thanks for your help, they are all attached here
None of them are from after the G&K expansion though, the last one is from April, actually. If they are crashlogs, then my game has to crash pretty hardcore for them not to generate, am I right?

It is worth noting I do not think I have had any crashes while playing multiplayer games. I'm fairly sure.

I'm getting this a lot, usually in the late game. Screen goes black, music is still going, and when I alt-tab out, I get 'render error' pop up, but I could never read what it is saying.

Game usually runs well until the late game. Only started happening since the latest vanilla patch and into G&K

In vanilla, it would crash when I call up a leader right before it renders the leader.
In G&K it happens IBT
