Clarification about Interfaith Dialogue

OK, so I read about interfaith dialogue a week ago and it seemed like a great belief especially for peaceful OCC's/Tall empires so you don't get trounced tech-wise by your cityspamming neighbors.

So I have a question: How does it exactly work?

Is it every time you spread your religion (using Prophets or missionaries) or only when you use Missionaries?

How do you avoid a diplo hit?

How many beakers do you get per spread?

This looks really powerful with Byzantium. Combine this with Tithes (you can do this, right? Since you get an extra belief) and you can practically buy your way to the Information Age!

You only get it if the city being 'converted' is of a religion other than the one the missionary belongs to. So actually converting the city is bad, but vs a 20 Pop Holy city, you can get a lot of uses out of it. The best Civ for this honestly would be Mayans(Pyramids), Ethiopia(Steles) or Spain(Natural Wonders). Byzantine would be selling itself short because for this strat, you don't need that extra belief, though it is nice. The Celts also fall short since their bonus is temporary (unless you like playing with under developed cities)

If you just want a religion to spread fast to take advantage of Tithe, your best bet is to rush for enhancement and grab Itinerant Preachers or Religious Texts depending on map type and how close your cities are.

Tithes and ID/money founders are sort of opposites. With tithes you want to spread and even convert as many cities as you can, but ID actually wants you NOT to spread and/or convert any. Basically you confine your religion to your own cities and only spread if you see some foreign-religon city with a huge number of followers - usually a holy city. So no prophets only missionaries. Interestingly, wording of ID specified "missionary".

The "Who's winning on Deity" thread linked to a good discussion about ID, here.

It basicly allows you to spend faith to get science like holy warrior allows you to spend faith to get units. If you want as fast tech possible this is probably the founder belif you should chose.

Yeah, now that I think about it, they're counter-productive of each other. Oh well.
