Hopefully not long, the PC patch only came today and patches in mac version often come out a few weeks later but considering G+Ks got a near simultaneous release hopefully this might be only a few days and its a fairly small Hotfix, as I understand it, that should lower the port time. Also they hopefully will fix/update the trading post graphic to the new one that the PC crowd get in our version of the hotfix?

Hopefully Ryan will give us some information soon.

Always, ALWAYS with the holiday weeks. We've got it in testing, but we have a few other things we'd like to get in a release. I don't have an ETA yet.

i hope so too!! my friend and I who are playing on pc and mac against each other are kind of disappointed by this mismanagement. why wouldn't they just wait until both versions are done? instead of pushing the pc patch to be like, hey guys look we really hurried to bring you this mint patch and now you cant play with your friends on mac anymore - yeah, thanks ...

how does anyone in the gaming industry not get that this is an absolute **** move? i mean seriously ... a 14 yo could tel you thats not a good idea....

im interested in what we can expect though, is it going to be 2-3 days or rather 2-3 weeks?

greetings

unfortunately that's the issue with the porting company being completely separate from the developer. Firaxis has no vested interest in the mac version, they just licence the code to aspyr and it's aspyrs job to keep up. But 99% of the time that's not possible due to them not getting the code right off the bat.

If the developer (say like blizzard) makes both versions then yes I agree it would be nonsensical for them to release patches separately. But this is not like that. Sad but true. We just have to be patient.

Let us all just hope Aspyr doesn't try to block us out of the ModsMenu with the patch.

That being said, I will make backups of the ModsMenu and InstalledPanel .xml files, so that if the new patch removes those files, I can pull them back out and see about porting them to the newest version.

Unlikely. Mods extend the life of the product, which strengthens the consumer base.

Yeah, but if that's so true, why not put in support for Steam Workshop and really extend the life of the Mac product? Include the same disclaimer about mods that Windows users get (I think it's in there for Mac once you enable the menu) and at least give us that much, OR, charge us less for an incomplete port.

Edit: to be clear, the non-simultaneous patches are not really Aspyr's fault, because 2K pushes Windows patches, then gives Aspyr the code, but, I think the decision for no mod support and/or Steam Workshop support was Aspyr's call. If that is inaccurate, I'd love to hear the evidence to the contrary.

I suppose it was foolish of me to expect better behavior from 2K/Firaxis starting with G&K.

Total speculation - perhaps mod support is not provided because, some time soon, most mods will have custom DLLs, and will not work on the Mac version. At that point we'd have a facility that is largely useless to us.

That is true, but, those will be marked as needing DLL support, and we'll know we can't use them. At least we would have Steam Workshop access to the ones we could use.

As we don't have that access, in light of DLL support coming down the pike sometime, not even fooling with the Mac version and just booting to Windows for it makes even more sense to me.

When DLL support happens, we'll be stuck with even less of a complete game that we paid full price for the Mac port of.

2K bears the blame for treating us like red-headed stepchildren, yes, but still, Aspyr could have at least put in mod support for the ones we could use, unless something in their agreement with 2K makes that impossible. I'd like to hear if that's the issue.

Edit: In Civ 3 times, I accepted the way it was because I didn't have an alternative. Those times are gone, so I'm not going to spend my money for less-than-complete porting when I can press a few buttons and play the real version if the game's worth booting into Windows for. I understand if you (you in general, not AlanH in specific) disagree with me, but in a time when Bootcamp is easily set up, and Blizzard ports their games to Mac completely, and patches simultaneously, I'm just not going to accept this half-support anymore. YMMV, no disrespect to anyone meant here, not even Aspyr. I'm just trying to respectfully say that if you want my money, do the whole thing, and don't ask me to pay Windows price for less product than the Windows users get. The publishers bear blame on this, too. If you're going to support other platforms, don't pick tools that can't be ported.

Time is on your side. Developers who currently lock themselves into a Microsoft-specific set of tools need to look at whether that's still a good idea going forward.

...and here it is. 1.0.1.705 installed from Steam. No sign of an App Store update, though.

The Mac App Store will be coming as soon as it passes through review.

Patch notes? Scouring Aspyr's sites...

Found the PC patch notes on the main page. Any Mac specific changes?

Thanks again Ryan and Aspyr Elves. A nice quick turnaround.

Any Mac-Only fixes beyond the official 2K patch notes?
