I'm not recommending anything, lest of all proprietary operating systems. The only positive thing I've mentioned above the 32-bit contemporary version is support for more memory. And I couldn't care less for popular opinion posted in wikipedia. I've seen it used by the thousands with no problem. But yes, it's "dead" - in the minds of Microsoft fans who want the latest and greatest just because it's what Microsoft wants to sell now. And it'll lose official support soon enough.

Alright, I have a question about my graphic card's temperature.

I've been trying to play some Crysis 2, but I've run into a snag in that the game runs fine for like, 10 minutes, then it slows down from a comfortable frame rate to like 2 FPS. I have to usually kill it with the task manager, and go back into it.

I can't tell if it's something wrong with the program or my graphics card. If it's my graphics card, I suspect overheating, but I'm not sure.

Anyways, to get to the point, right now with me just running Firefox and Steam, my Radeon HD 5770 has a temperature of 70 degrees celsius (159 degress F), I assume it spikes up more when I play Crysis. Is this temperature normal for a card like mine? Or is it too hot?

States have very limited power to compel the paying of sales tax by online retailers who do not have physical locations in that state. They may be able to bully a couple of the largest, like Amazon. But they will never get to the majority of them. Huge states like Texas have more clout. But it's just not within the realm of the actually possible for all online retail to pay the state sales taxes without the federal government becoming involved.

Yeah I'm thinking there will be a Congressional push for it though, next time there is a lack of budgetary agreement (October?).

That's quite hot, and likely the reason Crysis slowed down to nothing - to stop it from overheating. Is your cooling adequate?

Shoot, that's what I feared.

If it's that hot, then I assume my cooling isn't adequate.

Anything I could do to keep it cooler? Should I add more fans?

I'd check to make sure that the graphics card fan isn't obstructed or anything first. If not, your fan may be broken and if it's still under warranty, you should be able to send it back for a replacement.

I would lower the threshold at which the fans run at 100% - to see if it helps keep the card from reaching that high a temperature in the first place.

Well I open my computer once a week and clean it out. I did it yesterday because of this heat and the fan is working just fine. So I don't think it's broken.

How would I do that? I downloaded Speedfan and noticed that my fan was only running at 50%. I could up it manually, but I didn't want to micromanage.

Try the manual fan controls in MSI Afterburner. The automatic controls might not work.

Alright, I downloaded it and now I have the fan running at 100%, hopefully this will knock it down in temp.

Is it good to run the fan at 100% for so long though?

It won't hurt. Main issue is noise.

If you have laptop, getting a cooling pad might help; the "lifted" pads that actually let air in underneath work best, along with consisting of three fans, although the standard two should be fine.

Theyll also wear down faster, although thats more of a long-term issue than something you need to worry about immediately.

Yeah, that's what I'm worried about. Running at 100% fan speed I can get it down to around 62C, which I think is cool enough.

Though when I game it spikes up past 80 which scares me.

Yeah, I'm using a desktop, so no cooling pad

EDIT: Didn't realize I had a warranty on this thing lol. I'm going to contact the people who made this card, and see what they say about the temps being high. They have a guide on their site saying temps up to 95C () are normal for large cards.

Well if youre worried about the fans going dead you could pick up some and keep them nearby in case you need a quick replacement.

You might reduce total life time of the fan, but the things are pretty cheap.

Spoiler:
Bottom of the page.

Anyways, is there any laptop currently in existence that can run Microsoft Flight Simulator X on MAX settings on all the settings (except the animals one. It's stupid and I'm leaving it completely off if I ever install FSX)?
