Dawn of Phoenicia

Hiram II's reign is over. Who's next?

Hiram II:

Hiram II is nephew of Hiram. His vision of claiming former phoenician empire is almost finished.
*Settle Oea.
*Build harbour in Carthage.

Hasdrubal:

Hasrubal wants to extract the riches of Iberia.
*Settle in Iberia.
*Build mines in Iberia.
*Make sure Iberian cities controll all mines there.
*Station a war elephant there for defence.

Hannibal

Hannibal wants to conquer Rome. Despite Romans having a great advantage in Italian peninsula he believes it is doable.
*Settle Sadinia.
*Build/rush barracks in all cities.
*Build barracks and stable in carthage.
*Train/buy four war elephants. Underfund research if needed.

Still Hiram II, only after establishing full control here the Carthaginians will be ready to colonize Iberia.

Hiram II again.

Once we establish a larger empire in Phoenicia we should colonize Iberia. We should keep moving up into Western Europe (possibly as far as Germany), then attacking Rome from both the land and the sea. This would also give us a good staging point for an invasion of Greece. While a European colonization and invasion is all well and good, we must also remember to continue our efforts to colonize Africa.

Hannibal! Rome will settle Iberia for us. Let's take their cities from them.

Hannibal! We don't want those Romans to grow too strong for us to handle later, besides that we believe they will betray us sooner or later...

I would urge for you to vote for Hiram II. His plan is sound; it will allow us greater domination over the Romans when we go to war with them. As it stands we are roughly equal in military strength and are thus not capable of winning an over-seas campaign. If we develop our economy we will be able to build and support a larger military which will give us an edge in battle; an edge that may prove to be key to victory. Waiting until we are strong enough to betray the Romans is a sound military plan.

If we allow Rome to settle Iberia they will have a larger empire than us and we will be denied a foothold in Europe. If we settle Iberia as part of an economic development plan we will be able to dominate the Romans during the war as they will not have a foothold in Africa and their empire (and thus army) will be smaller.

If we attack them as they settle Iberia, their military resources will be spread thinner. A concentrated force can take their most productive city and knock them out and destabilize their empire in the long run

True. The timing would have to be perfect and we would have to move fast to be prepared in time. There's also the possibility that the Roman's don't settle Iberia right away. We should wait and see how the situation evolves.

Voting is closed. Hiram II won. Update soon.

Hiram II built an administrative center in Oea.
Moreover, the complete conquest of old Phoenicia from the Persians made former colonies to watch upon Carthage for protection.
His dream of claiming former Phoenician empire is completed.
He was so obsesed that even went one step further and declared Carthage and its realms as "Phoenician Empire".

Phoenician empire wasn't powerful enough.

Carthage was the most developed city in Mediterranean. The envy of the world.

Phoenician empire under Hiram's II rule.

Hiram II's reign is over. Who's next?

Hiram II:

Hiram II reclaimed the legacy of Phoenician empire. Now he wants more. He wants to reconquer the old Phoenicia.
*Rename "Qart-Hadasht" to "Qart Sur".
*Train settler.
*Train 3 war elephants.
*Settle Sur, conquer Jerusalem if needed.
(*off UHV course)

Hasdrubal:

Hasrubal wants to extract the riches of Iberia.
*Train settler
*Settle in Iberia.
*Build mines in Iberia.
*Make sure Iberian cities controll all mines there.
*Station a war elephant there for defence.

Hannibal

Hannibal wants to conquer Rome. Despite Romans having a great advantage in Italian peninsula he believes it is doable.
*Build/rush barracks in all cities.
*Build barracks and stable in carthage.
*Train/buy five war elephants. Underfund research if needed.

Hasdrubal
The future lies west and north, not to the east. Our forefathers left the Levant for a reason, if we return there now Dido's migration would have been for nothing.

I vote Hasdrubal.

The east is behind us. Our future is in the west.

I urge this council to support Hasdrubals empire building with the concession that we must prepare for the Latins. They have consolidated in the north and are formidable opponent. This half of the sea is only big enough for one power.

Hasdrubal won. Update soon.

Pirates from North invade our seas.

Romans expanded in Iberia first. The rich silver mines are now occupied.
Romans are provocative, they named their city after Carthage!

Hasdrubal builds a fort in the south giving us the control of Gibraltar strait.
Not so good as Cathrago Nova, but still better than nothing.

The powerful War Elephant is the unit that Phoenicians can use to prevail.
The units are stationed near the borders.

At this points war with rome seems inevitable. However, such a severe decision must be voted upon.

Hasdrubal:

Hasrubal wants to conquer the riches of Iberia.
*Declare war on Rome.
*Capture Cathrago Nova and other Iberian cities if any at any cost.
*Build mines in Iberia.
*Make sure Iberian cities controll all mines there.
*Station two war elephants there for defence.

Hannibal

Hannibal wants to conquer Rome. He disagrees with Hasdrubal about Cathrago Nova. He instead proposes to conquer Rome, because its easier and will destabilise Roman republic in general.
*Underfund research.
*Train/buy war elephants.
*Let 1 war elephant in Iberia for Defence.
*Declare war by surprise attack to Rome.
**Land 4 war elephants from sea.
**Attack with a 5th elephant from Calambria.
*Destroy iron mine near Rome.
*Capture other Italian cities if possible.

Hanno
Spoiler :

Hanno isn't interested in Rome. He wants to explore the rich west South and North.
*Build glassmaker in Carthage.
*Assign two merhcants in Carthage.
*Train scouts.
*Explore the west South and west North
*Train settler.
*Settle a far western city.

If war it must be, then Hannibal is right, the enemy must be decapitated with a sudden and decisive strike.

Hannibal won. Update soon.

Preparations:

Under Hannibal Carthage fought the greatest and most violent war until his time, the great punic war. The belligerents were the New Phoenician Empire against Rome and its allies.
Both sides brought into the fields new concepts and units that changed how wars are fought from now on.

Hannibal cut all expences in other sectors and funded solely the military. This displeased the scholar community which was well founded for centuries.

However, Carthaginian research didn't slow down. Phoenicians traders coming from far east extended the knowledge of Carthaginians with logistics and new cults like meditation.

Hannibal prepared the army in the position he wanted for. An amphibious sudden invasion.

The war was close. Both sides knew it so phoenician-roman trade effectively stopped.

Invasion in Latio:

Large carthaginian battalions invaded Roman waters and land.
Roman senated demanded that the army leave the region immediately.
Hannibal refused, so Roman senate understood that from now on Rome was formally at state of war with Phoenician Empire.

Carthaginian navy was far superior than that of the Romans, making sure that carthaginian land army could land safely near Rome.

Hannibal camped in hills north of Rome. Meanwhile the Silician army camped on the south bank of Tiber river.
At the same time, Romans recalled their units to fortify in rome.

The next day battle begun. At first, it seemed that Romans won the battle as they killed the first wave and the second.
However, carthaginian army was vast. At the third wave Romans were exhausted. After seeing the fourth and fifth wave coming they surrendered.

Rome fall in Hannibals hands, but at heavy cost.
More than hald of his army was killed.
That wasn't a problem, Hannibal knew that.

Preparation phase never stopped, homeland trained new mercenaries and soldiers to fight, while navy was ready to transport them in Rome.

Minor battles:

Surrounding cities resisted and made a failed final attempt to attack Hannibal.
Hannibal walked arround to supress these revolts.
Latio was effectively under Hannibal's rule.

Carthaginians conquered Rome, but that wasn't the end.
All of South Italy recognised Carthage as their capital, but that wasn't the case for North Italy.
North Italian cities continue to resist phoenician rule.
Many Romans, including senators and generals, fleed to the North.

Reinforces came from homeland to continue the war at the North.
Moreover, Hannibal destroyed the iron mines that were near Rome.
Effectively limiting the ability of North to build iron weapons in large quantities.

Roman paid pirates reached Carthage and effectively destroyed many fishing boats.
Carhtaginian navy destroyed the pirates. Fortunately, Carthage could feed itsself.
