ALC Game file storage issue

I put this thread here in GD since it doesn't really belong in the Strategy & Tips forum. I'm not sure it belongs here either, but I didn't know where else to put it. My apologies in advance to the mods if this should go somewhere else.

The saved game files I've attached to my ALC game posts are nearing my board storage limit: 14.75 MB out of the maximum of 20 MB. It may take a couple more ALC games, but I'm within striking distance of my limit. So I would appreciate some suggestions on what to do with all those files.

I was just going to delete all but the game start files from the older ALC threads, but it occurred to me that the threads have been quite popular and many people seem to still be using them as learning tools. I may have started the threads, but it's the community that truly owns them. So I'd like to get feedback on whether it is worthwhile to keep all the round-end files available, and if so, how we can do that.

On the other hand, taking all the files and making them available some other way will be a heckuvalot of work. Honestly, I have my hands full just playing and posting the games themselves, so it may sound lazy, but I'm loathe to reorganize all those files myself. So I guess in addition to a solution, I'm also asking for a noble volunteer or two to implement it.

Thoughts? Opinions? Don't really care?

While it is true that they are still being used for educational purposes - this is only true about the recently deceaced ones.

I SERIOUSLY doubt that people are still looking at ALC #1, for instance, but they may be still looking at ALC #7.

What we need to do is find a cutoff point - How many ALC games do we keep active at one time?

This is a suggestion - feel free to prove me wrong by finding someone who goes through every ALC game!

I hope the mods can just increase your file storage to 40 MB or whatever solves this problem. The ALC series is a great piece of work that I for one want to work back through, and the save games are an important part of understanding the games.

Don't delete them! There is some great discussion that goes on in those threads. Perhaps you can find a free online data host? Then provide links to the files instead of attatching the file.

Theres gotta be free data hosting sites, right?

I think those threads are useful for anyone looking for a real strategy discussion. There are many articles in the so called strategy section that are just about micromanagement, covering a specific aspect of the game, and they make more sense once you know how to use them. Threads where we/you discuss "where" are you going, and "why" are you doing it can help a lot!

Use the "quick links" and click on upload file.
Thanks, I had not noticed or used that before. But wouldn't the files I upload that way count against the same or another limit?

I don't think so, I use it and I don't see it counting againt me.

Okay, I'll try using it when I post the next saved game in the current ALC thread. If it doesn't count against my attached file total, I'll use it from now on instead.

Thanks again!

So I tried it and it won't accept files with the Civ IV saved game file extension! I'll have to try zipping the file next.

On a related note, I had to upgrade my Photobucket account to Pro. Seems I was about to exceed my bandwidth limit for the month, and there's still a week in it left to go! I'm a victim of my own success! (Not to mention my fondness for posting screenshots.) Unfortunately, that had to come out of my "Sisiutil's copy of Warlords" fund...

(Or maybe it was the Sisiutil beer fund? I keep getting them mixed up, which is probably why I don't have Warlords yet. Priorities and all that. ;) )

Too bad Photobucket won't accept non-image files. I have 5 GB of storage and 50 GB of bandwidth per month now!
