JalNES II: Quicker and Easier

Spoiler :
Kingdom of Zhou/Charles Li
'Imperial' Yellow
Chang'ang
Government: Monarchy with a small buracracy
Economy: Advanced ceremonial bronzeworking, trading, farming,
Military: Larger/ Small Elite force of Swordsmen and larger Professional Spearmen supported by Professional Archers and large minimally armed spearmen. Navy consists of River Fleets with small archer using fire and spearmen for boarding.
Culture: They believe in patron dieties and spirits. And in the afterlife. They believe in the Yellow Empouror of antiquity and that they will succeed him and his Center Kingdom.
Description: At first, small farmers along the Yellow river farmed in small villages. But years ago, the 'Yellow Empouror' united the farmers to fight Yellow River as it flooded heavily. For years he ruled over all before local leaders took over when he died without a hier. Several wars later Zhou was one of the seemingly most qualified, as it's capital was the home of the Yellow Empouror and have expanded against other states and barbarians. Today it is noted for its surprisingly high quality of bronze compared to other states and a large army it has sustained.

(Just a comparison: Elite/Professional/Levy forces 50/200/2000 is about the right ratio.)

I got that. I just meant that "it's Egypt" doesn't really help much when, in fact, it's not all of Egypt. What distinguishes the Memphis city-state from all the other Egyptian city-states?

This is the one that will go on to unite them all! :king:

Ok.. this ones at a fork in the river.. defencive, trade good etc...its also got a good leader who unites everyone with a new relgion..?

sorry, so many fresh starts that get nowhere have drained me of putting a lot of effort in before we get several updates in.

OOC: I protest the heinous naming of Zhongguo! You cannot name yourself Zhongguo until you've conquered all the other Chinese states!

Alex994 endorses Charles Li's Kingdom of Zhou to unify China ;)

Can either Alex or Charles Li tell me exactly where Charles' starting location is supposed to be?

The Yellow river, the last major bend before it reaches the see. That big U shape. I don't have paint.

Spoiler :
Zhongguo/Vertinari 118
Light blue
Zhongguo City
Government: Same as RL China. Dynasties.
Economy: Mainly an agricultural state but this is supplemented by trade of crafted items. Zhongguo bows are the most common trade good as they are in high demand.
Military: Large powerful archer cores with same sized though not as well equiped or trained infantry cores. No cavarly of any signifigence. Infantry use swords and spears. The Zhongguo also has a small but strong navy.
Culture: A dualist religion with two Gods that govern the world. Xoluc at night and Xola in the day, they represent pretty much the same things as Yin and Yang.
Description: China has to be united under one empire. This is the belief of the Zhoungguo and this belief stems from their long subjection by a more powerful state. The Zhoungguo belief that all the people of the world are equal and must be unitied.

Does anyone know the english spelling of the Chinnese word for city?

God: you make me sick! Call yourself 'Kingdom of Nan' or Southern Kingdom for god's sake! I eagerly agree with alex...

Chinese word for city is 'Cheng' and is writin tis. (sorry: no adapters)

OOC: Actually, it's Chengshi.

What's with all of the professionalism in Charles Li's army? He will be quite disappointed when he realizes most of those "professionals" are peasants running around with spears in their hands :p

OOC: While there's certainly problems with his army, you can just say he has a very, very, very good professional core with massive numbers of arrow(?) fodder ;)

Indeed. We just start out as city states. We're not going to have huge armies.

Abaddon, germanicus has already reserved gold as his color. Please pick a new one. :)

Hadir Unicus/bestshot9

Color: Orange, if its not taken, if it is, don't care.

Capitol: Hadir

Government: Absolute Ruler, High Priest (both leader of the government and Yori Unicus religion, leader is not chosen by family lines, but rather voted in by head priest in each of the other major towns ((not the capitol)) when the High Priest dies.)

Economy: Trade, Farming. Heavy use of slaves.

Military: Large slave army, poorly trained and equipped, used mostly as large numbers to overwhelm enemies. Slaves that survive 3 tours are granted their freedom to encourage slaves to actually fight and not run away. Slaves have the choice of joining the army to get freedom. Besides the slaves, there is a group of free men who make up the "professional army" mostly charioteers, but officers lead slave infantry into battle, too. The navy is just small enough to protect the home ports and doesn't receive the same prestige as the army. The navy uses slaves, as rowers, and any slave who joins the navy will be granted freedom after 5 years. There is a limit to how many slaves will be accepted into the navy, no limit for the army. (Not enough ships for all the slaves, but plenty of spears for them.)

Culture: Highly religious, pagan religion with many gods. Government is made up of the Sun God cult. The Sun God (Yori) is the god of luck and war. The various cults get along fine with each other, most slaves (who are part of the Unicus religion) tend to follow the Moon Goddess, because she is the patron god of the worker. The reason being, the only time they don't have to work is when the moon is out, because that's the time of rest, so they follow her to thank her for the breaks from work. Unicus is Hadirian for Union, they follow the Union religion which means Union of the Gods. Hadir Unicus means Union of Hadir, which is their homeland.

Description: Mostly wrote the description in the parts up above. Will write more here if I can think of more.

Starting Location: Preferably northern part of the Nile up to the mouth.

The Gods and Goddesses of Tyros:

King of Gods and God of War: Thorl
Queen of Goddesses and Goddess of Love: Thora
Goddess of Trade: Gira
God of Merchants: Biro
Goddess of the Sea: Juna
God of the Land and the Underworld: Niro
Goddess of the Navy: Tira

Minor Gods/Goddesses

God of the Army: Piro
Goddess of Children: Ne
God of Agriculture: Po
Goddess of Hunting: Pitana

Even minor Gods/Goddesses: (if you desire a specific profession, these gods/goddesses you worship to get the profession)
God of infantry
God of Archers
Goddess of sailors
God of Merchants
God of Farmers
Goddess of Hunters
None for kings or priests, these are chosen by the higher up of Gods and Goddesses.

I highly encourage people to join in India and China. Otherwise I'll have to ask Daft to move, and that will make him sad...

I wanted to be different :) I dont mind moving, its not like I've invested much time in my nation yet...

I'll be yellow? If not poss, deep green.

This is your approximately 8 hour warning.

Get those templates in. I'm looking at you, NK...

I'm going to copy Germaniscus's idea for a list of gods and goddesses.

Each god/goddess has their own "cult" within the Unicus religion, like the Yori Unicus cult.

Major Gods:
Sun God: Yori, God of Luck and Power
River Goddess: Samnui, Goddess of Fertility, Life, and Crops
Sand Goddess: Zanthuma, Keeper of the dead
Horse God: Huyin, God of War

Minor Gods:
Moon Goddess: Naviri, Goddess of Rest and the Peasant
Scorpion God: Mantirix, God of Trickery
Camel God: Benrid, God of Trade and Cooperation

There are even more minor gods and demi gods, and ritual sacrifice to them is not uncommon, yet not done all the time. Usually once a year a sacrifice of the years crops are given to Samnui, or a chariot unit might sacrifice some of its horses to Huyin.

Begging your pardon, but I'm looking at my update. If I don't get it in in those eight hours, I'll just join second turn.
That works, I guess.

Commencing update right now. As it's just update zero, you can continue to post cultures up until the deadline.

Yey, im guessing it will take at least an hour, so i'll probably wake up to this.
