Brief History of Phoenatica

Our history started on the western coast, by an inland lake from which we all descend from. Our great president, Grey Fox expanded our territory 3-fold from the first Domino Wars. The nations of America and Egypt are now part of our borders. Our culture also extended past our borders, as other cities joined our nation! Peace was achieved, mostly, for centuries, with minor skirmishes in our southern region with the Aztecs, who lost a city for their troubles. The city, added by our Culture Department, convinced other cities to join. Recently, another Domino War has started when Greece attacked our friends, the Iroquois. India was drawn in, and soon, like the first Domino Wars, almost every nation joined against the Greeks. Our people decided that it was best to stay out of this war, and attack with our culture.

During this time, the National Railway System was completed, as well as Universal Suffrage, and the Theory of Evolution. This pushed us into the forefront of technology! Our new rails now enables us to immediately reach any trouble spot in our nation! During this term, the NEP, National Employment Program, was also started. This was a major effort to employ, and industrialize our nations. Other programs included: CAP (Cultural Assualt Program), which builds cultural improvements along our borders; PEP (Passive Expansion Project), where we settle in open lands, left by razed or destroyed cities.

This brings us to today. Currently, there are 2 things on everyone's minds: The Greecian War, and the Term 4 Elections.

THE DOMINO WARS II : GREECIAN AGREESION

The Greeks spent centuries preparing for this war. We saw it by their military buildup near Kashmir, then the city of Tlaxcala (now Cyrus). The Greeks used our ROP agreement to attack our neighbor, the Iroquois. This in turn, pulled India, and soon, the rest of the world into a global conflict. Lately, the war has been slowing down, with Greece signing a peace deal with the Iroquois and English. India has also set their sights on China. The only nations that pose a threat to Greece are Rome and Babylon...

...until the Greecian Incursion. An incident occured in 1475, when a Greecian Infantryman was seen in our borders, near the cities of Mephis and Thebes. Falcon ordered an envoy to escort the infantryman out of our borders. Instead of complying with our wishes, the infantryman opened fire as a declaration of war! This caused quite a stir with our people, as another nation wishes to attack us! Our people are filled with nationalistic pride as barracks are overflowing with new cadets! Our army has also been upgraded, thanks to General Falcon. War plans are being discussed and debated, and our citizens are ready to assimilate Greece into our culture. There are concerns among some about sending our troops into foreign lands.
President Donsig was heard telling the Science Deputy, "We'll try to make it quick and painless..."

THE ELECTIONS

It's election time in Phoenatica. The polls have opened, and there's already some close races, and some runaway campaigns. Falcon looks to continue his war against the Greeks in Term 4, as he has a commanding lead over the current Military Deputy, Phoenix. Curufinwe is also starting to run away with the lead in the Culture Department. The Presidential race may see its' first female President, Chieftess. Chieftess is currently winning this race, with Justus II and Strider vying for Vice President. These elections also see some new names, such as fephisto, who is running for the Trade Department. The polls end tomorrow! So, will there be a first female president, and will we see some new faces in the cabinet? Vote today!

- Runoffs and nominations for empty cabinet posistions continue!

The votes have been cast, and the new cabinet for Term 4 is taking shape! Chieftess has been elected as the first female President of Phoenatica, and is already busy implementing new discussions for this term. The vote for Vice President (runner up in the Presidental race) has resulted in a tie vote! The runoff is taking place here, between Justus II and Strider. There is another runnoff for the Governor of Ameri Province, between Lovro and Plexus.

POST GREECIAN WAR

The war with the Greeks is over! We have filled all of the province of Kashmir, and half of our new province of Scythia. A Great Leader, Darius, rose from the ranks of our Elite Immortal division when fighting elite infantry in Cumae. This leader helped to build our U.N. in Khatovar! The next few decades where ominously peaceful, even though we spent many years creating a new constitution and setting up a Democracy.

MODERNIZATION

We have recently entered the modern age, and already have the UN built, thanks to Darius. A new calculation method, which our scientist call a 'computer', is being developed in our scientific centers. Fox Nest is gathering supplies in anticipation of the SETI wonder. This wonder, apparently, uses these 'computers' to search for intelligent life outside of our world, or so our scientists say. Our research was going smoothly, until one day....


THE IROQUOIS BLITZ PDX!!

In 1620, the Iroquois abused our ROP agreement, and sacked our most productive city, PDX. We were able to reclaim it, and efforts are underway to rebuild the city. We have turned our tanks and artillery towards two huge Iroquois stacks which have crossed the border near Mephis. We are clearly being invaded! The irony of it is that the Greeks, then the 4th most powerful nation, invaded the Iroquois, and lost. Now, the Iroquois, the 2nd most powerful nation, is invading us, the most powerful nation in the world! General Falcon has also drawn up the battle plans, and we are ready to attack during tonight's (July 17th) turn chat. More news will follow this major battle.

THE IROQUOIS WARS

Our tanks have pushed back the Iroquois advance, and produced 2 Great Leaders, which built the U.N. and SETI. Iroquois cities are falling one by one to our tanks. Public opinion says that we will take cities up to Salamanca, Niagara Falls, and even Cattaraugus before suing for peace. Recently, the Iroquois brought China into the conflict. China had an MPP with the Zulus (who in turn had one with Rome). Both deals are now expired, and there is public opinion on taking some Chinese cities, one of which has the Great Lighthouse - one of the most ancient wonders!

PROVINCIAL EXPASION

Our wars have opened up two new provinces in the Iroquois lands. They are known now as "Province 10", and the "Undefined Province", as borders are just being drawn for that province. There are currently 3 canidates up for governorship: BCLG, Myartar, and Stuck_As_A_Mac. The two public opion polls have them in a very tight race. Both provinces look to grow as the war nears its' end.

RUMBLES FROM THE SOUTH

Recently, there has been an increased activity of Zulu galleons, yes, galleons in our southern waters (the inner sea). The Zulus reportedly do not have coal and oil. This is a developing situation which will need to be watched closely. In other news, our culture victory is now estimated at 1862. With increased research labs, our victory may be sooner.

THE SINO-IROQUOIS WARS COME TO AN END

In a brilliant military campaign, commanded by General Falcon, our armies swept through what is now known as Nouva Terra: Salamanca, Niagara Falls (Mokra), Cattaraugus, and Allegheny. Much celebration was to be had when our people received the news that we had taken Salamanca. We got the pyramids, Leo's Workshop, and Copernicus Observitory. All of our troops not stationed to defend our cities were rushed to the war front to quelch the resistance. The Chinese cities quickly fell to a few of our tanks, and a need transport. After 3 cities were taken with just a handful of our tanks, A commander who goes by the name "Mr. T" said of the Chinese, "I pity the fools who use pikes!".

THE ASPHINXIAN GOLDEN AGE

If there ever was a golden age for a province, this is it. Asphinxia was not only the staging grounds for defending against the Iroquois invasion, they were the site of the recent banquet. Many citizens and dignitaries came, giving speeches, entertaining the party goers, and holding debates. The most interesting of which included Shaitan singing, and the Boil-Steamed Crab Debate. General Falcon was quoted saying, "We've gotta tell the world how they need to fix crabs"! President Chieftess even got in on the debate, siding with the Steam Crab side.

SPICE TRADERS GUILD RELOCATES

One of the oldest citizens groups in the nation is changing their headquarters to Arrakis, formerly Ayang. Chieftess was quoted as saying the move was due to its' more central location. The headquarters at Fox Next will remain as the Northern Branch. The STG Southern Branch is in Delphi.

ELECTION TIME

It's the elections again, and this time, there were plenty of posistions open! In fact, 2 provinces remain unfilled. Some blame the new law allowing only 1 government posistion per nominee, others blame 6 new posistion brought on by the new constitution, and expansion into Iroquois territory. While it may not be as exciting as Term 3, there are a few must-watch races! The Department of Science posistion is being decided between 2 former science leaders, Civanator and Strider! At last count, the two were in a virtual tie. The other race to watch, once again, is the Presidential Race. Chieftess and Donsig, also 2 presidents, are vying for the Term 5 spot, which may be the last term before our victory is met.

ELECTIONS FOR TERM 5 ARE OVER

The election results are in! Chieftess won the Presidential race with a very narrow victory, winning 27-24 over Donsig. The poll was often tied, and was a nail biter until the end. Falcon won the Military Department by a wide margain, gaining an astounding 34 votes! The race for the Science Department quickly became one-sided after an early tie, with Strider being declared the winner. There is also a run-off for Province 12, where the race is just as tight as it was in the elections. Election results can be seen in the Polls sub-forum of the demogame.

SPIES AMOUNG US?

Within the last turn chat, we noticed a peculiar development. England wanted one of our techs (Rocketry) for their wines. We declined, however, within the next turn or so, almost all known nations have acquired the knowledge of rocketry! There is currently some debate on what to do with our spies, and how to expose enemy spies.

VICTORY IS AROUND THE CORNER

The game is entering its' final few turn chats, with an expected victory of culture by 1832AD or earlier. The 'Victory Chat' is set for the weekend of August 10th/11th in the #demogame chat room on irc.webmaster.com.
