Barbarians in Civ3 have lots of things to do. Besides attacking your cities, they also steal money, sabotage your production, kill your workers, and pillage your roads. That's why sometimes they are not home...

During a recent war with England, I had captured a few workers. On their way home, one of them ran into an undefended barbarian camp, something rare in itself. I tried to disperse the camp with the worker, but I was prevented from doing so, and got an interesting message. It called the camp a city, some akin to when barbarians could capture cities in CivII...

Thanks to Octavian X for the screenshot.

I'd like to see those Barbarian cities again! I had some kind of sympathy for them, they looked better than an enemy civ to me, don't know why!
They are doing so many good things to your civ all the time...

And to Octavian X, did you try with a normal unit afterwards?

First time I see that... :hmm: Usually they leave a defender...

that is not so weird, i have seen the last AI city undefended  it was probably because their last city was one that they recently conquered and the habitants of that city kep rebelling. ^_^ i wish i had a pic :(

I've seen empty barb camps once or twice. I've no clue as to what causes them, but the free 25g is nice. :D

As the post says, couldn't it be because the barb units are out pillaging or attacking or "exploring"? Though I guess usually they leave at least one unit to defend the village...

One time I killed a warrior in the barb camp, so the barbarian horseman there stayed to protect it. Of course I killed the horseman. I never seen an empty, exept when I over run it.

I have nuked a barb camp once, the camp was emptied immediately. That was long time ago before all those fanzy patches.

Would he be so stupid to move a worker so close to a barbarian camp without proper escort? He probably knew that it was gonna be empty after some mods.

If the worker came from any of the three squares to the right (which it probably did since it was coming from England), I don't think he would have seen the camp until he moved right next to it, if the camp sprung up after the terrain was last explored. And if you don't see any present danger I don't think having a unit escorting all of your workers is a big deal.
