After two easy games in the last 2 months, this month we will have an Emperor level game on a small random map, with 5 Civs. This game is significant because it is last GOTM before Civ3 is released. yeah it's finally here! ill get crushed tho i think, small map with 5 civs on emperor!! thats crowded!!
well, i'll try my best, and hope its a good learning experience:goodjob:

Exellent! :goodjob:

Emperor + small map is great.
One settler? that never happens at deity.....
I think ill go for a hut before founding but which one?!?
Nice river to the east, but fish to the left.

Are restarts on?

i would find the city the first turn, my defender can go out and fetch em.
looks like there are good resources near by
i think i'll expand to the east first or perhaps south

ok.

I'll definitely take at least 1 of those huts before building.Hopefully get a unit in the 1st one.Probably head for the river first. If I don't get a unit...I'll probably build on the river

I was thinking about the start myself as well. ;) I think I'll head for the other one first. I'll probably build a city on both spots, but if the first hut does not give me a unit, I'll walk back to the other. That'll cost me 4 turns...but I think it'll give me an advantage overall, because a supportless unit at the beginning is very handy!

Yup, I remembered to turn off restart Civ this time. :)

The landmass in this game is "Small" and land form is 'archipelago". It's probably a good idea to build the Lighthouse in this game.

That will cost you 6 turns instead of 4. :)

This looks like a 'misleading spoiler' ;). I'm in the AD years now and this does not look like a small landmass game at all ?? However, the map itself is small as indicated at the start of this thread.

I never ever before tried this GOTM, and I only check the forums from time to time =)

But this time, I wanted to try, and I'm finished...but damn it didnt go too well.

Dont think anyone wanna see any info? Finished 1979-1980 somthing. Killing everyone.

hey incubuz, looks like you're new here, if you want to share details then you can start a GOTM9 *SPOILER TALKS* topic on it.
well, you've started and finished already!! , so just post some things you thought about the game in the new topic!

Incubuz,

You did better then me :(

I got beat for the Chapel **AND** Workshop. Emperor without the Chapel is almost impossible. At that point I knew I would be way DOWN in the rating list, and did not bother.

Bad enough I had to bribe back one of my OWN cites.

I had a feeling I would get my butt kicked since I normally play at prince.

Well stupid me, I forgot to save the game at 0 and 1000 AD. I feel dumb because I played to about 1600 before realizing that, so now I can't replay it and turn it in. I might play the game out anyway because I never played on emporer before. It's tough with all this civil disorder.

It is good idea. I began my game this way and got the horsemen.
I have completed the game by killing everyone.

I recently found this site and I have to say the GOTM is a great idea. Can't wait to see how (low?) I score on GOTM 9. I do have a question though:

What kind of strategy will people use on this Emperor level game to control unhappiness at the beginning of the game? I normally play at King, and have trouble expanding too quickly at the beginning because of the unhappiness penalty from too many cities. Do you create entertainers to deal with the resulting unhappiness or build warriors for garrison or buy temples before building settlers?

Reason I ask is I was playing a few random map practice games at Emperor and after building a few dozen cities, I had cities where every single person was unhappy from the very first citizen on. I imagine the best GOTM players build more cities than I do and at a faster rate as well, so how do they deal with the unhappiness?

Hi Manoa,

I usualy play at emperor or deity level.

I usualy built temple in each city and the Oracle or the Hanglings Gardens in order to maintain citizens happy until I reatch the way to build the Michelango Chapel and turn in Republic.

This way is good with a large map and if you have a lot of cities.

I never play on a small map, so I do not if this way is good. I don't think it 's the best strategies.

I think I will start the GOTM 9 tonight. I will see what strategies is best.

Someone said in the forum (I read it I don't remenber where!) the best strategies in small map is to defeat all the civilization...

I always expand very fast in my games, want to have about 30 cities in turn 100 (1 ad in this game I think) so un happiness is a big problem. A very good wonder to have in the beginning is the hanging gardens that happy citizien helps a lot! But still until mikes is built I have to use LOTS and LOTS of entertainers to keep unhappiness down.

I don't know but with the new scoring formula I think an early finish is a must I don't know really how early to shot for though. Spaceship or conquest is the question, ;) I have no idea.
