Cant open/start the GOTM saves?!

im fairly new to CIV V, got the complete BNW bundle, i want to enjoy the GOTM games/saves but when i d/l the save file i cant open it at all, if i choose CIV V to open it it says catastrophic failure??

what am i doing wrong, ive browsed the forum but cant find an answer

i enjoyedplaying along the the CIV IV GOTM and other saves etc, that seemed to be easy process...

Some questions to try to understand if the problem is unique to loading GOTM saves, or loading saves in general, or something more fundamental.

When you start up a new game (not loading a save file), does the game load fine and are you able to play?

If you play a new game for some number of turns and save that game, can you reload and play that save file?

Are there other save files that you can download and play, such as the save posted here? (Ignore the fact this is a high difficulty-level save--just trying to see if you can load other saves.)
