Morocco with Kasbahs is amazing

I got to 52 with Siam with all the city states allied. My two other cities were at 35 and 34.

My capital is size 41 or so. I have petra, desert folklore and lots of kasbahs. Just a ridiculous city. It was cranking out pretty much anything instantly and I have like 11,000 faith and nothing to spend it on.

I've never had a city so large, in the desert no less.

Whats the largest size city you have had?

I'm currently playing Morrocco, I'm enjoying them, but I don't have a size 41 capitol (and I'm running tradition and tall empire as well).

I've never been able to build big cities in this game, what am I doing wrong?

Kasbah's, only give 1 food, so how could you possibly get that large. I only have about 1/3 of my tiles as desert, the grassland I farmed, the hills I mined. Why can't I grow large cities? I built hospitals and just finished my medical labs. I still don't have a city over 30. I don't have Petra, I never seem to get this wonder in this game. The ai prioritizes it, and I don't build wonders in this phase of the game.

Petra helps a lot by adding an additional food. I also built hanging gardens in my city but that was really all that I did differently than you it seems.

I went tradition, piety and patronage, so I was allied with a lot of CS as well. Another thing to consider is that I was using freedom and the policy where specialist only take half as much food. The biggest thing though was really the Kasbah and Petra ensuring every tile was at least 2 food ( can feed itself). I am sure others can give advice as well.

+2 food? That's only if you build Petra with it, right? Kasbah certainly gives useless desert flat tiles some bonuses, but without Petra that tile is still pretty mediocre. It's like a plain tile with +1 gold on it. Shouldn't the Kasbah get an upgrade at some point in the tech tree since all the other UIs seem to get one?

That's how I feel. Morocco looks good on paper, but ends up being very underwhelming, in my opinion, because none of their bonuses advance. The +1 culture per trade route ends up becoming so minor by mid-game that it's forgettable, and the kasbah -- without any sort of additional gold or culture or faith or anything -- is not even worth working in most cases unless you have Petra. Making a Civ that dependent on a Wonder doesn't make them too exciting. Their UU is also just another boring cavalry unit with a bonus in home territory. I would like to see them get some more upgrades in the next patch to make them a little more exciting.

Yeah, I think Morocco looks better on paper than it plays. The Kasbah needs to improve as most tiles do, either with more food at fertilizer, more gold at economics, or a culture bonus at flight. It should at least get the same science bonus that trading posts get from rationalism.

The Kasbah gives food on mines, and production on flat tiles/flood plains. A large number of all-round tiles is very, very powerful, if somewhat situational. I always thought they looked pretty rubbish on paper until I played them, and now they're my favourite civ. In fact, the only thing about them which annoys me is the dodgy start bias.

On a desert hill tile with petra and kasbah you get insane output.

My city cranked out wonders in 3 turns on Emperor, it was great I was building stuff I didn't need because of how much production it had.

My best city was with Siam and about 10 maritime city states... Sukhothai was size 44, Si Satchanalai was size 42, and Muang Saluang was size 28. Really damn good civ to play with for a tall diplomatic victory, didn't even use the elephants once.

I haven't played with Morocco yet but they seem like a really nice and focused civ, I'll definitely attempt a diplomatic or culture victory with them next.

Size 45. I sent a sea/food trade route to that city ASAP for the entire game. It also had 3 wheats and two fish.

Size 45, 50, etc. is confusing. Look at turn. 330? 99% of my games end much earlier. The only good thing about Kasbah is gold. Really if Kasbah gives you +1 food and +1 hammer, than it will be trash. So to get max population in capital Kasbah is useless - it gives LESS OR SAME FOOD THEN FARMS ON ANY TILE (Oh yeah, you can not build farm on hill without access to fresh water, but how much such hills you usually have? 3-4?). Just try to get high population without Petra, with this imba Kasbah:lol:
When u play something like ICS, then I guess Kasbah will be usefull.

Monty is fun with Floating Gardens/ToA/HG and all the other food stuff you can get, plus as many internal trade routes you can muster pumping food into the cap.

I prefer Inca Terrace Farm + Petra. Food plus production on hills throw in Petra and it just goes crazy.
