Disabling Expansions?

I have both Gods and Kings and Brave new world ( as well as other DLC purchased through steam), and I want to play Civ 5 vanilla. I turned off the check-boxes for the 2 major expansions under the DLC menu area, however when I restart Civ I see the BNW start screen ( and both checkboxes under DLC are checked again!). Is this a bug? I want Civ to boot to vanilla with the original opening screen and music, and remember the DLC settings. I assume once I have saved game with both expansions unchecked, when I restart Civ I can just open the save game without turning off the 2 DLC checkboxes?

You cannot be in a game when you do that. You have to exit the game and do it under the games' properties in steam. Steam will then download the whole vanilla as if it were a new purchase. Then you can start Civ5 and start a new game.

Whenever you want to play either God and Kings or Brave New World you have to do the same thing and wait for Steam to re-load the needed files for that Expansion.
