Divided Monarchy (Ancient Israel Total Conversion)

Why no new updates?

Is this mod currently working? Can anyone who has used it previously verify? Because I just downloaded and tried it today and it seems broken - i.e. it won't load up.

Something to do with the new patch?

The mod will only work now with my updates (download in post #18 or here)

Note that since BNW release you must manually unload BNW from the DLC menu. I may make a small update to make this easier for users.

Thanks - I had the right mod I just didn't unload BNW. All in all not bad. I played through as Judea on Emperor and Immortal.

I captured 3 city states (2 City States & 1 Israel city). I was surprised the citystates hated being conquered so bad, after the 2nd citystate they started banding against me. I was only trying to subdue the Philistines, like any Judean king would.
The big issue with conquest though was happiness. After I took my 3rd city I had -12 happiness and that penalty stopped me from pushing through Israels carpet of doom.

If you're still going to work on this mod there are still some issues that need fixing.

Firstly for both games Assyria got beaten back (almost out of the map). They were far from the destructive terrorizing force that the Old Testament makes them out to be.

Egypt was a lame duck also and barely caused me any concern. If you want it to be historical than Egypt should eventually ally with the rebel states against Assyria. Assyria was the undisputed superpower in the region and really should have no difficulty in sacking and destroying cities with little trouble.

Perhaps you could consider giving Assyria the Siege Tower and also giving them the Hunnic ability (raze cities at double speed top offset the unhappiness penalty), Or possibly eliminate unhappiness from conquered cities afterall the Assyrians were experts at exiling and deporting their captured subjects and dumping people all around their empire so as to weaken the possibility for future revolts.

The other issue could be happiness - there's not a lot of luxuries on the map. I captured 3 cities as Judea and my happiness was below -10.

I think you could add some luxuries: Date palms (ancient Jericho flourished on the date palm), honey, incense & maybe gems and gold. There is now evidence of a cinnamon trade in ancient Israel so spices were used.
The main reason why I think you need some luxuries is to make it easier to conquer - this may be a reason why Assyria flounders. If they get below minus 10 happiness then they take a huge penalty.

Judea also starts with a disadvantage in that you have few cities and resources compared to other Civs. You could counterbalance this by providing a small amount of victory points to Judea every turn they hold their capital. After all Jerusalem was the prize of the Jewish people and it's importance to the Jewish people was recognized in that it was the center of the Temple Mount and the Royal Family.

Social Policies

You could consider adding some social policies that could be unlocked as an alternative of spending culture on top of allying with citystates. This would also give Assyria & Egypt some uses for culture which I don't think they have right now. I would see it as each Civ has access to only 1 policy tree and as it is only a short scenario maybe just 3 policies per tree at a cost that is balanced with sending culture to citystates.

Assyria would have a revised Honor (to help them destroy the world)
- Military Caste (Each city with a garrison increases happiness by 1 and gold by 2)
- Discipline (+10% combat bonus for adjacent military unit)
- Warrior Code (+15% production of melee units and free Great General)

Tradition - Egypt only
-Civil Society (specialists consume half amount of food)
-Papyrus (free great general and +50% experience)
-Monarchy (+1 gold/happiness for each 2 citizens in the capital)

Canaanite Culture - Israel & Canaan & Phoenician Civs

-Canaanite idol worship (+1 culture from worked gold, silver, copper & +1 happiness from connected gold, silver, copper resources).

- Camel trains (+2 gold for each connected luxury resource)

- guerrilla warfare (all trained units receive free altitude promotion - +10% combat strength and double movement in hills

The Remnant of Judah - Judea only

Walls of Jerusalem. Capital receives + 5 defense and +50% ranged attack if garrisoned. Influence with Citystates degrades 25% more slowly.

Prophecy of Isaiah - +15% combat bonus near Jerusalem.

Celebrate the Passover - +4 happiness from Temple and +1 culture from pastures.

Anyway that's just some thoughts I had.

Interesting ideas, but I have no intention of revising the scenario again. Perhaps you could update it with your ideas and post it here?

Thanks for the offer - but I would have no idea on where to even start with a mod this size :crazyeye:

A shame really... its a great mod.

As Creighton Abrams said of eating elephants: You do it one bite at a time. ^^

A shame really... its a great mod.

Well, if you're looking for other historical scenarios set in the same region, you could try my Ancient Egypt New Kingdom Scenario. Also, rob's Anno Domini would practically allow you to make your own middle east scenario.
