I am really sorry if this has already been adressed, but I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.

I have installed Civ3Conquest, updated the game, downloaded your scenarios with his expansion pack (extracted the mod to the conquest/scenarios folder), but when I tried to open your mod, this appears (check the attachement).

I am pretty I did something wrong, but I cant figure out what. Can anyone help me? Thanks

Destroyers and carriers don't upgrade. Cruisers do.

Back to the Ironclad discussion. They were not considered battleships of their era, SOL were. Monitors should upgrade to a smaller warship either destroyer or cruiser, although I think destroyer makes more sense.. that is if they upgrade at all and a case can be made for that.

The only reason the modern navies don't have more "cruisers" in name is to fool the political process. Today's "destroyers" are heavier and larger than the crusiers of WW2. A large destroyer of that era was 2000 tons. Now they go close to 10,000 tons. "Frigates" are bigger than old destroyers as well.

Sorry for the long delay... but sometimes real life kicks in. Anyway, I'm setting up a private ftp now, for testing of the installer. Later on I think P2P is pretty alright, not sure which programm is better suitable, but that has to wait until the license thing is solved, I'd say. Anyway, those who wanna take a look can do so here: micromegas.serveftp.org Username: CivFanatic / Pass: Rhyetester
I tested the connection with firefox and the fireftp extension. That worked, if there are porblems let me now - I'm not regularily running a server here ;). And note this is hanging on my slow private line so plz don't hammer it into oblivion. I split the file into 11 rars, so if connection breaks down you don't have to start all over again.

Split is just for download resume, once all files are downloaded there's nothing to do besides doubleclicking the first one, it's an automated process that will generate the monolithic setup file. One of the reasons why I prefer rar over zip by far ... ;) And it is particulary necessary in this case as my ISP will assign me a new IP every now and then, sometimes that even involves a few secs of disconnect... yes, it's a rather cheap one ;). I set up a dynip account so there's no need to update the login information everytime, but there's a small chance of someone'S download being interrupted nevertheless. It would really suck if that happens at ~140mb and you'd be forced to start all over again. So that's why.
Regarding P2P - exactly my thoughts.

Sounds like a good idea.
I would suggest that building the SPHQ would give -1 happiness in all cities. That's enough. At worst, make it -2.

Have you gotten my pm? There are details for a ftp server with a fast connection. But perhaps it is more suited for the "final" installer.

I'm new to the Roc/RoX mods - I've been playing my first RoX game for about a week now and really enjoying it. I am France, it's about 1100 AD, and - what realism! - in the last four or five turns I've had nine cities get struck by the plague! I had a few bouts of plague early on, but this happened very suddenly and is quite widespread through my empire. I'm wondering whether this is built in for a realism effect - plague all across Europe in the middle ages - or if I have just been extremely unlucky, or both? Is the massive plague outbreak triggered by reaching a particular year or researching a particular technology in order to tie to a certain time period in history? Or is it just a result of the fact that I'm cruising along a bit and letting my cities grow?

hi satch - plague does increase with population size, but will decrease once you discover sanitation. in my first game on ROC 2.65, germany suffered massive plagues across the empire through the middle ages, and had every city with 6+ population (at least, before the plague struck).

by contrast, in my second game (ROCX, 1.01), china suffered little plague damage, with only two cities being hit, neither of which had a population above 3 at the start. in fact, my largest cities werent touched.

personally, i cant stand the plague feature and (gasp) turn it off in the biq file before starting. :mischief: :)

We must keep an eye on gameplay. Even if they couldn't upgrade, we can't go on building everything from scratch.
I think that the ironclad was a good choice to start the new line of heavy&slow battleships.

um, actually we could mitigate this by lowering the ship building costs. i havent checked ROCX against C3C, but the C3C costs are ridiculous.

just a thought...!

yeah I agree with the -1 to all cities. Cool.

Have we decided the boat situation yet? I'm makin a spreadsheet of all the units and their stats and was wondering if I should wait on boats until a consensus is reached.

Streams of blood during the ages lead to a one city cultural victory for the Incans in 1908. Well, innumerous sacrifices and papal states and shakespeare. And never has one city cultural victory been so true... guess I'd have been destroyed by the european invaders in 20 turns max. Strange game that was, usually I don't wage war to not to destroy the victims, but I found it very nice of the mayans and aztechs to deliver their troops to my clubmen at panama. What a stream of workers marching to chuzco. Anyway, just another reason to love the xpack. :king: Who's next... :egypt:? Usually they suck so much, that would make them a suitable follow-up to the Incas indeed.

Do the Frenchies always try to colonize that ONE little square on the mainland of England if London is not coving it with Culture?

thanks

In case you're talking of cornwall, no I never saw them settling there. Usually I see them heading for Ireland instead. Hm... let me guess, you're playing England and send settlers up to the north first and then to ireland, but didn't bother to build much in regard to culture in London, cuz you've been pumping out settlers? I wouldn't worry about that city, they won't produce much there so culture is to stay low. Usually the french are strong on the continent, so maybe better attack the dutch instead to get a beachhead and build London's culture, you've got a good chance to get the french city by cultural conversion sooner or later.

Mr Communist, (shouldn't that be Comrade instead of Mr?) although I'm rather sure that is a known problem I can't recall what was the solution ... but here are some hints for you: in /conquests/scenoarios/ you should have three folders, named "Rhye's of Civilization", "Rhye's of Civilization X" and "Rhye's of Civilization XF" and three biq files, named "Rhye's of Civilization v2.66.biq", "Rhye's of Civilization Expansion pack v1.1.biq" and "Rhye's of Civilization Expansion pack v1.1 RANDOM MAP.biq". The file in your error message needs to sit here : \Conquests\Scenarios\Rhye's of Civilization\art\tech chooser\Icons, if it doesn't you likely confused folders when extracting or you downloaded just the patch for the basic mod. Hope that helped, if not feel free to download the beta of my installer. See above for details.

Hat taken off to saéute Micromega's True Cultural Victory with the Incas!
Yep, so that is another way to deal with it! :goodjob:

Well, here is my story going:

INCA - 2

AGE OF DISCOVERY
1488 - 1640

So, my first and only caravel sailed out to clear the black minimap, and well, in a true historical period of 150 years it went all fine and well (another ship, a galleas helped in).

It turned out that the Incas in tech followed a leading group of
Israel (!), England, Portugal and Germany
in the 16.17th century - but really NOT FAR behind! :).
Interestingly, in Asia the Koreans took up a leading position.

/Israel took half of Egypt (presumably with help of...
no else but the Arabs!, also half of Ottomans/

GETTING TO THE INDUSTRIAL AGE
1640-1752

From the group of close followers, the Incans managed to rise and join
the leaders in tech as Industrial Age came in 1752!
/sooo nice a historical date, would not you say?/.
Only Israel has one tech of this age as now.

America...oh, Lincoln fell behind, partly maybe as a result
of a long and dragging war they have against Monty of the Aztecs! :D

So, here we are, preparing to have the Statue of Liberty in about,
well, less than a hundred years for sure,
with a nce country standing 2-3rd place in productivity,
and with sci. beakers 110/turn learning tech at a 6-turn rate! :)

Democracy to come for my indian people! :king:

WOW you did it without the monuments! What was your difficulty level?

I'm looking forward to see the guide. Do you want to write it?

In that case, you can grab anything you need from here:

The Incans are by far the most isolated civ.
You begin your game in the middle of the Cuzco Valley, high in the Andes Mountains, and nobody will be able to reach you, for a long long time. You can begin expecting the Europeans since 1600.
The race is on with the Incas to settle as much of South America as possible before that date. The key to doing this is in crossing the Andes, so workers galore are required to build roads (and a military escort for them is needed too, to defend against barbs).

Once, you've broken through, there is some decent enough land around modern day Argentina, where cities can grow reasonably well. The AI when playing as the Inca never seems to break through unless they get a settler or free city from a goody hut. Otherwise they are confied to a dry and barren existence.

The start position is murderous... surrounded by mountains and hills, no fresh water, few food bonuses. The same applies for the most logical city positions for the 2nd and 3rd cities N and S of the capital.
Fortunately, the mountains act as a shield: no one really will touch you. But the problem doesn’t exists: nobody’s going to bully, as there’s nobody around!

The Incan unique unit, the Chasquis scout, is useful given the hostile local terrain, it has a reasonable chance against the barbs, and can cross the mountains and jungle to actually make contact with the other American tribes.
You should try to go searching for the goody huts placed in South America very early. Let’s say, before 500A.D. If you wait too much, the first barbarian uprising will occur, and exploration will be very difficult. For the same reason the best chance to take out the barbarian camps is before that date.

An intensive use of Chasquis scouts in needed to reach Central America to meet the other North and Central American civs. Keep contacts and make intensive trade. Once your progress goes beyond theirs, keep and eye on Americans: sooner or later they’ll spread their wings and make huge steps: they’ll be a good partner for trading.

Early war options are limited. The nearest civ, the Maya have a strong defensive UU, so they'll continue to be hard to take on until the later medieval or early industrial, let alone actually building roads or enough boats to actually get at them beyond the Amazonian jungles.

In conclusion, the Incans are a great civ to choose for Emperor/Demi-God/Deity type players who appreciate a greater challenge. Lots of early to mid range building and development, as you attempt to squeeze as much productivity as possible out of a pretty barren landscape.

Try to keep it of the same length.

The rating of the Incans was 1.0 out of 5. I wonder if that's changed in your opinion.
