Yeah, but still some empires have been forged through conquest, and were "scientific" and cultural references still.

We still have a domination victory, that tells you to grab every other capital, so there's still a way to go that imply conquer.

Is great you are not able to get the lead by conquering, but now it hurts more than helps, that's the problem I have with it.

Well, it still is, but you probably can't do it in the Medieval era like you could before; instead, you should expect to win a domination victory around the same time you'd expect to win any other victory.
