Update 5: 2242, January – June

I’ve Got 99 Problems but a Beach Ain’t One

Faction Reports

Atomic Foxes
Spoiler :

The Atomic Foxes have experienced both great victory and horrendous defeat. From all appearances a major band of raiders was moving through southern Georgia, and they struck harshly upon the outposts and bunker of the Foxes. The AF Bunker itself came under attack by a small portion of these raiders, and they were easily repulsed by the garrison that remained. The outpost at Wild Adventures Theme Park was not nearly as fortunate. With the bunker’s radio tower destroyed by a harsh wind storm, the park was apparently unprepared for the onslaught that struck it and no warning was received to them. The entire outpost was wiped out and razed, with no survivors, as discovered by subsequent patrols. The events which actually took place during the raider attack, or the total strength of these raiders is unknown, as no one remained to report. It’s believed now, however, that these raiders likely have laser weapons and power armor from the raid. Everything of value was looted, and the park itself was destroyed by fires set by the raiders, leaving only ash and devastation in their wake. This completely nullified the disputes about chain of command, as virtually all dissenters to the current order were slaughtered in the attack.

The victory of the Atomic Foxes came after a breakdown in negotiations with the neighboring town of Hahira, which had so far refused to trade or provide any food or water to the bunker and its soldiers. The response to the failure of negotiations was abrupt and brutal, leading to the largest battle the Atomic Foxes had yet fought. Despite being fairly well armed, the townsfolk of Hahira were unprepared for the surprise attack and prolific use of power armor against them. They fought very bravely, and died very quickly. The Foxes overwhelmed those who fought, and the remaining two fifths of the population were enslaved and put back to work in the fields that remained after the fight. With such a move, the Atomic Foxes have at last secured themselves self-sufficiency and production enough to feed their people.

With the most critical supply situation now well in hand, the Atomic Foxes began a dedicated construction effort. In Hahira, they built a recycling facility which allowed them to turn the stockpiles of guns the townsfolk had accumulated into scrap for use in construction. The bulk of guns were converted to scrap in the process, a strong psychological blow to the slaves who remain. At the AF Bunker itself, an ammunition convertor was built to help manage the ongoing shortages the faction has experienced over the past few months. Unfortunately, a few tech parts had to be expended to continue maintenance upon the Valdosta camera network, which has suffered regular wear and tear from the storms and from vandalism by passing raiders.

Turn Stat Changes
-1 Radio Tower at AF Bunker from high winds and collapse
-225 Ammunition from raider attack on AF Bunker
-500 Scrap Parts, -10 Tech Parts from Wild Adventures Park construction
Wild Adventures Park lost, razed: -50 Population, -190 Ammunition, -20 2-H Guns, -10 High-Tech Melee Weapons, -50 Laser Weapons, -10 Power Armor Suits from losses
-10 Population, -225 Ammunition from Hahira attack losses
+225 Slaves, +740 Food, +840 Water, +16 Tech Parts, +150 Scrap Parts, +560 Ammunition, +300 1-H Guns, +20 2-H Guns from spoils of war from Hahira attack

-1,000 Scrap Parts, -5 Tech Parts from AF Bunker construction
1,000 Scrap Parts Converted into 1,000 Ammunition
-3 Tech Parts from camera maintenance
+210 Food, +110 Water from surplus production

Commander’s Challenge: The conquest of Hahira has led for some of our people to suggest that the AF Bunker be abandoned and the whole faction to claim Hahira as the new home of the Atomic Foxes. They have stated that the bunker and the camera network previously setup could be salvaged for ample tech and scrap, while the victory at Harhira has left the defenses at the town intact. The centralization of our faction would also help prevent our forces from becoming too spread out and prevent another disaster from taking place. Opponents of the plan state that abandoning the bunker would nullify years of hard work, and expose our people and supplies to raids during the move. They claim that the bunker should not be abandoned, but if it must be done, that the bunker should simply be sealed off to allow a later return. How do we respond to this debate?

Calusa Indians
Spoiler :

The Calusa Indians have managed to have a fairly quiet few months, as the Hower brothers cemented their authority, marrying into the tribe, and reorganizing government and the young military. They’ve distributed the laser rifles they brought with them into the tribe, and have been actively focused upon new organization altogether, bringing in English as the language of government. Plenty of construction too place as the Howers used their knowhow to build new reapers and other equipment to moderately improve food and water production. More importantly three scouting parties were sent out to explore the area immediately surrounding the Kissimmee Prairie. To the east, the scouts were stopped cold by the flooded Kissimmee River and no easily passable fords or bridges remaining. In the northwest they found a strip of earth that may have once been an airfield, but now nothing remains of any buildings or equipment. To the southwest, they entered the town of Sebring, finding it full of mammalian creatures resembling pre-war squirrels, but typically two feet long instead of their smaller squirrel brothers who continue to inhabit the Prairie. The center of town was swarming with hundreds, maybe thousands, of these squirrels, and when the scouting party entered town, all of them immediately fell silent and stared at the intruders. The Indian scouts, made very uneasy by the unanimous attention and thousands of eyes upon them, quickly made their exit, though noting that the town is in excellent condition otherwise.

+85 Food, +195 Water from surplus production

Chief’s Challenge: Migrants have begun to enter our area in much larger numbers over recent months, and we must now decide how to treat them. Some are actively looking for a safe place to live, but none of them speak our language. How shall we treat those potential immigrants who wish to join our tribe?

The Citizens
Spoiler :

These few months were quiet for the Citizens, as the primary focus was upon a resource trade with the Vanguards to the east. They further welcomed an embassy established by Vanguards, to better learn about “communism” and what it actually means. The trade was some of the Citizens’ tech part stockpile for an ample supply of Scrap Parts from the Vanguards. The trade itself and meeting was successful, as the Vanguards proved honorable in the exchange. Unfortunately a band of raiders witnessed the trade and attacked the Citizens as they left Hawthorne and returned home. The raiders were repulsed, but the convoy suffered moderate casualties in the process. The only other event of note was a minor scouting expedition to the town of Bronson, which the scouts found to have a varied amount of wildlife, including a few of the Damncats as well as an assortment of ghouls and other creatures. The team gathered all the scrap they could carry and returned it to the Citizen’s compound.

Turn Stat Changes
-10 Tech Parts, +900 Scrap Parts from Congress City Trade
-10 Population, -300 Ammunition from raider attack on trade convoy
+1 Military Skill from combat
-15 Ammunition from Bronson expedition losses
+30 Scrap Parts from Bronson expedition salvage
+30 Population from immigration
+235 Food from surplus production
-65 Water from consumption

Professor’s Challenge: With the past year of heavy immigration into our society, we have seen a lot of new faces joining us. Accompanying this increase, we’ve experienced the problem of a rise in criminal activity and drug usage. Chems have begun to enter into our compound, and are causing a major problem for our community. Some of our people have called for action to restrict its spread, claiming that future immigrants should be more carefully screened or outright rejected. Others have claimed that better measures would be a thorough search of the compound for the creator of the drugs. Opponents to both of these plans claim that it violate human rights and privacy, and that action should simply be taken to mitigate the effects of increased drug usage, rather than proactively fighting against their creation. How do we respond to the drug problem?

The Conch Thalassocracy of the Keys
Spoiler :

The Thalassocracy initially descended into debate about possible reforms of government, but these plans and others were sidetracked by a series of disasters. First, a fire broke out destroying the bulk of recently built farming equipment and supplies, a major blow to the community. Then the raiders from the south returned once more, attacking not once, but twice. Both attacks were repulsed with fairly light casualties, and failed to do any damage to the community itself. Unfortunately, ammunition supplies have begun to become rather low, and many are growing concerned about the Thalassocracy’s overall situation.

Turn Stat Changes
-Farming Equipment from uncontrolled fire damages
-10 Population, -220 Ammunition from first raider attack losses
-10 Population, -220 Ammunition from second raider attack losses
+1 Military Skill from combat
-220 Food, -120 Water from consumption

High Doge-President’s Challenge: People will begin starving by the end of the year with this latest disaster, and the High Doge-President’s situation is increasingly tenuous. It seems likely that a grassroots revolt will take place in the coming months against Ruiz’s position. How do you respond to this growing internal threat?

Monastic Brotherhood of Poor-Fellows and Crusader Knights
Spoiler :

The Brotherhood experienced a relative year of peace of plenty, though it was spoiled by the contamination of some of their food stocks. Thankfully with a surplus of production, the Brotherhood’s supply situation remains solid. Some grumbling has been reported among the most fervent of the order, who believe that Ocala and other communities should be subservient to the Church, and not allowed to retain independence without full conversion. Two scouting expeditions were dispatched from the Citadel, but one was forced to quickly return as no intact bridges or fords were found around the St. Johns River to the east. The other went further north to the town of Interlachen, finding signs of a brutal society that once resided there, including dismembered corpses and all indications of a violent raider gang. According to immigrants and travelers the expedition spotted, a group known as the Vanguards had wiped out the former residents of Interlachen in a major battle to the east. These migrants were able to pinpoint the town of Palatka as the residence of the Vanguards who defeated the fearsome raiders.

Turn Stat Changes
-600 Food from contamination of supplies
+25 Scrap Parts from Interlachen expedition
+20 Population, +30 Food, +15 Water from immigration
+5 Population from Natural Growth
+130 Food and Water from surplus production

Grandmaster’s Challenge: The discovery of the location of a new faction of survivors has excited a number of our members. They have called for a major armed expedition to the town of Palatka to secure their conversion to the true faith. While the most fervent of our congregations have backed down on outright conversion through conquest, they have stated that a show of force will likely fully demonstrate the power of our cause. Others have stated that a more diplomatic approach should be tried, sending only unarmed clerics to greet this faction and establish a church. How do we respond?

Nasa
Spoiler :

For a time it seemed as though Nasa may have existed alone in a quiet and vacant world, with only nomads and marauders accompanying them. At last though, it appears that other bastions of civilization do exist in the Sunshine Wasteland. Two expeditions were sent out to explore neighboring communities to Titusville, and both encountered organized settlements in the process. To the south, a self-proclaimed Fort-Cocoa has claimed the area of Cocoa Beach, and turned back the salvagers, with an impressive display of salvaged military robots. The area seemed fairly well suited for farming, and the people were mostly friendly though they have claimed salvage rights in the area over Nasa. Not willing to spur an incident, the scouts pulled back, and claimed some salvage closer to Titusville. The second expedition went north, passing through the town of Oak Hill, which they found to be empty of civilization, but full of mirelurks. A brief battle was fought as the expedition travelled through. Further north, they discovered what was called the State of Daytona confusingly located in the middle of New Smyrna Beach. They were far less impressively armed than those further south, but the Nasa scout still turned back rather than risk a fight with a mostly friendly settlement.

As the scouts were abroad, a new settlement emerged far closer to home. In the town of Mims, a large group of people who were turned away from member ship with Nasa itself, established a bare-bones community in the ruins. With no weapons or equipment, Mims has become a beacon for those who Nasa has turned down for membership. Still, the settlement theoretically remains under Nasa’s protection, though some of those inside are still resentful at their treatment so far. The relationship between Mims and Nasa seems constantly strained, but it is hoped this will improve in time.

Turn Stat Changes
-100 Food from supply contamination
+120 Scrap Parts from southern expedition salvage
-110 Ammunition from northern expedition losses
+100 Scrap Parts from northern expedition salvage
-250 Scrap Parts, -13 Tech Parts from construction efforts
+110 Food, +210 Water from surplus production

Commander’s Challenge: Drawn to our community by our radio broadcasts, a merchant farmer has offered to supply us with fresh steaks from his farm somewhere to the west. He has refused to tell us where his farm is, clearly untrusting of our motives and ideals. He claims that he can provide enough food to feed at least fifty people every six months. All he asks for in exchange is ten rifles up front and twenty ammunition every six months when food is brought in. How do we respond to this offer?

New Gulf Commonwealth
Spoiler :

The New Gulf Commonwealth was focused upon the ongoing struggle against the spider ants, and this focus nearly cost them everything. As their expedition departed to find the compound which was believed to be the source of the ants, a standard but massive raider party came along, striking at the compound, and leveling the walls. They further managed to kill a number of people and forced the survivors to retreat into the bunker itself, fighting all the way. Unable to breach the bunker, the raiders did what damage they could to the residence above, setting it aflame before leaving. Substantial amounts of equipment were destroyed in the process, and most of the slain were looted and eaten by the raging band.

Meanwhile, the expedition sent into the swamps had a fairly easy time of it, remaining undetected in their approach over the water before hitting the land and approaching the mysterious stronghold. As they got near they were immediately attacked by a number of spider ants, but they seemed to have taken them off guard. They managed to penetrate the outer defenses, to find themselves engaged against less than a dozen converted Mr. Handys who deployed flamethrowers and lasers, and were the source of the expedition’s casualties. Upon entering the tower itself, they found a few more ants, but at the tower’s heart was a lab-coated man with wild hair, proclaiming that he was king of the ants and ordered the expedition’s execution. Shooting began and the man was killed and his computer systems were destroyed in the fight. Shortly after, the surviving ants collapsed, though apparently still alive, just no longer functional. Freed of threats and blissfully unaware of events at the compound, the expedition spent several weeks exploring and salvaging the ruins, finding at its heart, a Vault-Tec Vault. The Vault, labelled Vault 77, is in fairly decent condition, still possessing working food and water facilities, as well as comfortable living quarters for hundreds of people. In addition is ample amounts of lab equipment and for some reason, boxes and boxes of puppets.

Turn Stat Changes
-20 Population, -430 Ammunition, -20 Laser Weapons, -Water Pump and Purifier, -Farming Equipment from raider attack on bunker
-250 Scrap Parts from construction
-5 Population, -135 Ammunition from swamp compound raid losses
+20 Scrap Parts, +10 Tech Parts, +20 Ammunition, +20 1-H Guns from spoils of swamp compound raid
+1 Military Skill from combat
+5 Population from immigration
-195 Food and Water from consumption

Governor’s Challenge: The discovery of a mostly intact vault has led some of our people to call for a migration. They have suggested that the vault would be far more secure and suitable for a settlement than the bunker we currently occupy. Inside are state of the art food and water processing systems, not to mention far more comfortable rooms than the current bunker. The recent raider attack destroyed substantial amounts of our fortifications and equipment, and the vault will likely replenish that. Opponents of this idea claim that far too much effort has gone into the current compound and that the vault should simply be scrapped for what value it could have to the current position we hold. How do we respond?

Pox Chains Gang
Spoiler :

It proved to be a fairly peaceful time for the Pox Chains Gang, beyond the usual sniping of ghouls that get too close to the perimeter. Two major expeditions were sent out, but both remained predominantly in the Tallahassee metro area. The first investigated the Alfred B McClay Gardens Park, which proved to actually have some limited potential for farming, unlike the rest of Tallahassee. This is a promising development for the future of the faction. The other expedition went to the regional airport, looking for anything of value, but sadly only found scrap to bring home. The scrap was added to the stockpile with little ado, and the faction continues to push on throughout the months.

Turn Stat Changes
-100 Food from spoilage
+100 Scrap Parts from Airport expedition
+25 Population from immigration
-185 Food and Water from consumption

Boss’s Challenge: There’s a powerful band of possible raiders entering Tallahassee, wielding laser weapons and even power armor. They’ve offered to protect us from the hazards of the wastes, but insist on being given full access to our settlement. They claim that they are looking for a place to settle down, but it’s likely that the leader will attempt to establish himself as our new leader. Furthermore, they could be lying and simply seeking to raid our defenses and stockpile. On the other hand, if they attack us, they could do quite a bit of damage as they have powerful weapons. How do we respond?

Saint Vikings
Spoiler :

The victory of the Saint Vikings over the hounds continued to resonate throughout the St. Petersburg area of the Sunshine Wasteland. The victors have managed to rest easy so far, avoiding any significant threats in there are beyond the standard hazards of salvaging in a ruined city. A debate did emerge over the fate of the large number of new immigrants, and a large number of vault dwellers argued that the new labor ought to live outside of the vault itself. A new outpost was thus constructed at a nearby airport, called Hangarville by its new inhabitants. This outpost has become the residence of anyone who wishes to join the Saint Vikings but was not themselves born in the vault.

Turn Stat Changes
+700 Scrap Parts from local salvage operations
-1,000 Scrap Parts from new outpost construction
+25 Population in Hangarville from Immigration
+5 Population in Vault 73 from Natural Growth
+895 Food and Water from surplus production

Overseer’s Challenge: The establishment of a suitable living area for immigrants has made our vault dwellers very happy so far, but there has been a new issue that has emerged. The immigrants claim that they should be supplied with decent weapons and equipment to help protect themselves against the possibility of another raider band entering the area. They have requested access to at least half of our current stockpile of firearms. Members of the vault have vehemently protested, claiming that the best weapons ought to be kept for the protection of the main supply of food and water, and state that low-tech melee weapons ought to be sufficient for Hangarville. How do we respond?

Vanguards
Spoiler :

It has been a time of trade and exploration for the Vanguards, as they seek out more civilized life throughout the Sunshine Wasteland. The first expedition was dispatched to the Atlantic coast, seeking out any salvage or support they could find in the area. They started with Palm Coast, where they discovered a thriving community calling itself the Fellowship of the Palm. Apparently descended from a number of tribals, they welcomed the Vanguards, and offered to teach them about the Fellowship’s faith. After resting for a brief time, but being forbidden to salvage from the “sacred ruins,” the Vanguard expedition continued further south. In Ormond Beach, they found a fortified compound soaked in blood, filled to the brim with vicious raiders and their slaves. These “Beach Boys” immediately attacked and struck at the Vanguard expedition with everything they had. The Vanguards repulsed the assault, but lost one of their irreplaceable suits of power armor to the raiders’ heavy weapons. After the battle, the Vanguards stayed further inland, avoiding further confrontation. The expedition found their way to Daytona Beach, which proved to be empty of civilization, but populated by a moderate amount of ghouls and other monsters of the wasteland. Neighboring Port Orange to the south was similarly populated, with a number of various types of monsters within. The expedition took what salvage they could, easily keeping the pests at bay for the time being. They continued to travel south to New Smyrna Beach, finding a friendly community calling itself the State of Daytona. They were forbidden from salvage in the area, but felt confident enough about the supplies they had recovered from areas in between, and thus made an uneventful return home.

A second expedition was sent to the north, following the western bank of the St. Johns River, with the objective of finding out about the fate of the nearest great city, Jacksonville. They initially passed through Oak Hill, which was populated by a vicious nest of Mirelurks, who constantly attacked the travelers during the journey. The further north the expedition travelled, the higher the background radiation became, and in Middleburg, it was fairly high, though still passable for unprotected humans. The town was also empty of any significant life beyond the radroaches, and substantial salvage was done in the ruins. Jacksonville itself was scouted, and proved to have a fairly high rad count, and the scouts only took the time to explore, finding the city was overrun with ghouls, radroaches, mirelurks, and some large vicious looking creatures they’ve started calling “deathclaws.” Unwilling to hang around, the group returned to Middleburg, did some highly successful salvaging and made their way back home.

Things remained quiet at home while the expeditions were out exploring the Sunshine Wasteland, though the community’s first trade took place as they exchanged scrap parts for tech parts with the group known as the Citizens in Gainesville. These tech parts helped fuel construction on the home front, as new farming equipment was built, as was a vital munitions factory, allowing the creation of more ammunition for the Vanguards’ supply of firearms. Efforts have been further underway to start reducing crime, which has been on an upswing with the recent influx of people. The government has refused to be biased towards one group or another of the population, but has so far failed to find the thief responsible for the rising crime.

Turn Stat Changes
+10 Tech Parts, -900 Scrap Parts from trade with the Citizens

+30 Population, +15 Food, +10 Water from immigration
+5 Population from Natural Growth
+450 Food from surplus production

Comrade’s Challenge: In the past year, local radios have sprung to life once more, playing music and giving information from a group calling itself “Nasa.” Allegedly located not too far from where our eastbound expedition stopped recently, they have made broadcasts which seem solidly against the ideals of communism and supporting the ideals of the unmourned United States of America. A number of our people have called for shutting down of radios or at least forbidding people with radios from listening to this station. Opponents have stated that the Nasa station is the only game in town for entertainment, and they provide useful advice for healthcare and even weather reports. What policy should we implement on this issue?

Vault 40
Spoiler :

Vault 40 continues to struggle against the brutality of the nature and wildlife surrounding it. Giant snakes and alligators, mirelurks, and all sorts of poisonous spiders and creatures represent grave risk to life and limb. The vault’s surviving Mr. Handys keep up constant flames, burning a clear area immediately around the vault, but it is a persistent struggle as the flora grows rapidly back into place. An expedition was sent into Everglades once more, as the town thankfully remained abandoned of any significant wildlife, and what was there was purged by fire. Ample scrap was returned to the vault, likely to help spur on development on the home front. A much smaller expedition of scouts was sent by canoe into the swamps, and they successfully made their way to the Gulf coast, but were forced to report that the route is hardly safe, swarming with all sorts of animals. Back home, the overseer announced the clearing and destruction of a number of surplus food and water stores, allowing use of the vault’s baseball diamond once more. A group of teams have been formed from within the community, and have acted as a welcome diversion in these troubled times.

Turn Stat Changes
-1 Mr. Handy, -20 Population from wildlife attack
+1 Military Skill from Combat
-250 Scrap Parts, -1 Tech Part from construction
-560 Food and Water from destroyed excess supplies
+400 Scrap Parts from Everglades salvage
+5 Population from natural growth

Overseer’s Challenge: Recognizing the limitations of our remaining Mr. Handys, some of our citizens have made a proposal. They suggest that we could use some of our tech parts to set up perimeter sensors in a radius around the vault. This would allow us to at least be given some warning should another attack of snakes or mirelurks be sent against the vault. They suggest that with ten tech parts, suitable detectors could be set up, allowing us to determine not only the axis of approach, but exactly what triggered the sensors in the first place. Should we follow this proposal?

Now that your supply chain is apparently self-sufficient, we have suspended our previous deal for further negotiations. At the time, our food and water stocks are required to maintain our own population.

You invited us to come to this area through radio broadcasts but have not let us in. If we are so much under your protection, help us survive, as we have nothing. If you do not, our deaths will be on your hands.

OOC

I’ve added a new building to the front page, Fortifications. Fortifications are any sort of purpose-built defensive works that protect the settlement in question. Ten levels of fortification can be built at any particular settlement or outpost. Each level represents essentially adding +1 Military Skill to any defenders of that settlement. It is assumed that any existing settlement has a basic level of fortifications, these structures are anything that could be considered additions. This could include, but is not limited to: pillboxes, additional walls, parapets, and interior strongholds.

It should be pointed out that you do not need a radio tower to hear radio stations that are broadcasting in the clear. There are large amounts of functioning radios present from the pre-war world (and based on the games, all still retaining power). Radio Towers are solely for the purpose of broadcasting your messages to the wasteland or to distant outposts.

@mayor: I want to make sure that you realize that you have Laser Weapons, not Plasma Weapons. See also the revised rules on Farming Equipment construction. Otherwise no trouble with your orders.

@thomas.berubeg: You will have to expend the amount of scrap needed for an actual settlement on the other side of the river. 2,000 Scrap Parts would be required to create such a fortified compound, as there are no other buildings immediately on the other side of the river.

Transfer 70 2-H, 500 Ammunition, 140 food, and 280 water, as well as one set of farming equipment to the town of New Mims.

Build 1 set of farming equipment (100 Scrap and 3 tech) to replace that sent to mims.

Continue to broadcast as we have in the past, but also report on the Nasa Congress, a congress where those who inhabit central Florida will work to determine a strategy to protect ourselves from raiders, and to potentially lay out the framework for the return of a unified democratic rule or commonwealth. All communities in the area are invited to come.

Host the first Nasa Congress, in nasa city, to determine a unified strategy to protect the participating towns against outside raids and other such evils. We hope, also, that this congress will be the first of many to form a stable, democratic government in Florida.

Give, as a gift, to those settlements who come to the congress, 5 lasers each, to show our commitment towards the protection of central florida.

Boss’s Solution:
Spoiler :
Those bandits look tough but their equipment is valuable and their is our lands which we know more then they do. If we can use our environment large feral ghouls population we can kill two birds with one stone. The plan is to have small stealthy group of men to sneak out of the base and goes found and attract the ghouls attention. Then after doing that the men will lend them to the armed bandits. As the bandits and the ghouls fight we will unleash hell on both ghouls and bandits. If this work not only will we get equipment but also lessen the number of ghouls in this city. If this fails then we are in for one hell of a battle.

Governor's Challenge

Spoiler :
The discovery of a mostly intact vault has led some of our people to call for a migration.

Governor's Challenge Solution

Spoiler :

Booker Ryan VI hesitated at the door. He'd avoided his father for over a year, a feat considering how all hands were needed doing tasks. He'd asked other if his father had said anything, but if the elder Ryan had any thoughts, he kept them to himself. Now he had to talk with him. The discover of Vault was a big opportunity and a big risk. He braced himself opened the door.

The room was not befitting of former leader of the New Gulf Commonwealth. There was a bed, a chair, and an overhead light. A small radio was on the floor. A voice was chatting about the weather along the East coast. Booker's father was sitting looking at him. His heart dropped like a stone.

"H-hey, Pop." Ryan V sat there for moment, stood up, and then hugged his son.

"It's alright." And then the stone was gone.

"Thanks Pop." Booker stood there for a second. "Can ask a question?"

"Move." Booker wasn't surprised his dad knew what it was. The whole fort had been debating since the dead were buried. He was surprised by the answer though.

"Why? This is our family's land! Our ancestor had the foresight to build this bunker!"

"Think about it, son. This bunker was built by rich man, but it wasn't built to last. Those bunkers were built by the government, and as far as you guys found, no one ever lived there, except the Ant King. It's defensible, and has food and water purifying capacities. It's a good site."

And though in the coming days, Booker Ryan VI made the argument to the citizens of the NGC to move, no one knew that it was the last order issued by Governor Booker Ryan V.

The NGC is going to relocate to the Emerald Vault. However, with the recent raid, the community will be on high alert. Over the next six months, 80 men armed with laser weapons will be responsible for moving scrap, tech and whatever can be salvaged from Fort Shackleford. 10 men will be running a skeleton crew in the Emerald Vault Another 90 will be on alert at Fort Shackleford for bands of raiders. 15 men with 1-H guns will travel early in the 6 month period over to Grand Island to see if the community left anything worth of value. They will return to Fort Shackleford and then make an expedition later in the half-year to Haine's Creek to scavenge for things. Hopefully upon returning, Everything will be in order to make a migration over to the Emerald Vault.

A Tourist’s Guide to Vanguard Communism

Presented to the Citizens by the Vanguard ambassadors in Gainesville.

- The Commune: the organizing principle of post-apocalyptic socialism is the commune, where everyone, the farmer, the soldier, the worker, resides. Unlike in former times, when rural communities and urban communities were in conflict under capitalism, the Great War wiped the slate clean, and now a truly communitarian lifestyle is possible.

- Revolution: Congress City was once like every other classist pre-war survivor community, embodying the vicious traits of the Old World – plutocracy, individualistic hoarding, etc. – until the revolution. Revolution, my brothers and sisters, is the culmination of class struggle, when the people overthrow their masters and create a communist government. Such a revolution is a social process, and it can come in a number of forms, whether from a small vanguard, a proletarian uprising, or a parliamentary takeover. It is our historical mission to spread the revolution.

- Communist Vanguard: a wise pre-war scholar of Marxist theory by the name of Lenin understood that the revolutionary struggle in pre-capitalist or industrializing countries (such as Gainesville or Congress City) required that the most class conscious members of their people create a well-organized vanguard of communists to spearhead the revolution where the proletariat would otherwise not be class conscious enough to unite fully. Congress City had the luck of being enlightened to communism, and undertakes the burden of being the Vanguard of communism (where the word “guard” is quite literal) for all of the Sunshine Wasteland.

- The Proletariat: the Great War wiped the workers of the world out, destroying both industrial capitalism and those heroic societies across the oceans which had already begun the project of socialism, such as the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and the People’s Republic of China. Today there are no factories and no workers, but there are wastelanders – the post-apocalyptic descendant of the proletariat. This proletariat is a class in opposition to the bourgeoisie whether current or deceased. In growing non-communist settlements there are rich and poor, but even in the wastes the capitalists that ruined the world still haunt us as if they were still our masters. Their wicked aggression condemned the wasters of the world to struggle to survive, and this is why we must unite. Wasters of the World Unite!

- Ghosts of Nuclear Capitalism: the Old World United States, incapable of accepting the otherwise inevitable victory of communism, engaged in the Great War to try and prevent the People’s Republic of China from finally bringing communism to North America. We live in the shadow of this capitalist apocalypse, and the ghosts of nuclear capitalism are all around us; radiation, fallout, monsters beyond belief, and automated weapons of the pre-war capitalist world. We struggle against these manifestations of capitalism, just like everyone in the waste, but are aware of the collective interests of the wasters. We are a voice of the people.

- Liberation and Egalitarianism: all people, without distinction, are equal among the Vanguards, and everyone has their part to play in the growth of communism in the Sunshine Wasteland. We are violently opposed to the institution of slavery, whether by explosive collar, by the whip, or by capital – and have already vanquished a fearsome raider band at great risk to our commune in the name of freedom and equality.

- Abolition of Class: all history is the history of class struggle, and it is our mission to relieve ourselves of class struggle by transcending into communism through the class-destroying process of socialism. Under socialist government, class distinctions are eroded until the state is unnecessary, but it is a long process, and in the meantime, fraternal camaraderie is emphasized to keep our people together.

- Abolition of Private Property: the forces of capital are nationalized, means of production (like farming equipment), buildings and land, and rare or classist goods are owned and used in common. The commissars are tasked with refining the definition what constitutes personal or classist goods. Groceries, basic tools, heirlooms are personal for example, whereas radios, historical artifacts, ammunition and guns are not.

- Prohibition of Organized Religion: public space cannot be used for communal worship, however private worship and freedom of belief are allowed. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, it is in essence the desperate attempt to fill the world with meaning where poverty has left a gaping hole. It is untrue and detrimental to the proletariat’s true mission.

Hey,

To: Lakeshire
From: Commander Mila Quinn of the Atomic Foxes 1057th RCT

No food through this time is fine. The Foxes may even have surplus Food to help Lakeshire in hard times. To this I would like you to get a group of farmers to take stock of the lands at Hahira. Perhaps there is land there for your people to farm.

Now then the water. A supply of water is still needed by the Atomic Foxes. 75 Water per 6 months? This is half of what was sent before.

So, going to get started updating probably this afternoon, and going to aim for completion either tomorrow or Wednesday.

Build the proximity detectors for 10 Tech Parts. In addition, build a radio tower (200 Scrap, 10 Tech Parts) to coordinate communication between external patrols; the radio broadcaster will act as a dispatcher to warn patrols of wildlife attacks by radio.

All patrols will be issued with a radio.

Orders

* Use our new radio tower to broadcast into the Wasteland, attracting immigrants and raiders. Warn them of the wildlife attacks, and announce a rich bounty of food and water to be paid to anyone who can survey a safe route to and from the Vault, payable upon second visit to Vault.

* Overseer Serrano begins nightly broadcasts/fireside chats.

* Begin autopsies of the mutated wildlife, looking for vulnerabilities that can be exploited to kill them off more efficiently -- vulnerabilities to drugs, pesticides, or other chemicals would be ideal, but radio frequencies or other physical means of incapacitating the snakes, gators, and other critters would also be welcome.

Professor’s Challenge Solution

Spoiler :

There will be strong propaganda against drug use, and it can only be produced by persons appointed for such. There will be inspections so there is only moderate use of drugs.

However, it will be zero tolerance for crime. Anyone who commits a crime will have all their possessions confiscated and will be summarily expelled from the community.

Bah, we haven't even had one glimpse of these "van guards" or what have you yet and I'm reluctant to charge headlong into a situation where we don't know all the cards. That's how we always get killed, brethren. Send a scouting force to Palatka with few clerics. Spoiler :
Send 35 men armed with low-tech melee weapon to Palatka. 30 of them are to act as a scouting force, marking out weaknesses, farms, water purification plants, patrol routes, and what have you. 5 of them are to act as our diplomatic envoys who are instructed not to reveal much about ourselves but to find out as much as possible about these "vanguards."

Send 50 men with low-tech melee weapons to the former lair of the raiders in Interlachen and strip it of anything that we can use.

Update 6: 2242, July – December

Better Dead than Red

Inter-Faction Reports

THE FIRST NASA CONGRESS. Nasacity, Nasa. Nasa Educational Radio, usually filled with useful tips and advice surprisingly shifted gears over these six months, broadcasting instead about a “Congress” being held between a number of “Atlantic cities.” The so-called Nasa Congress has stated that representatives of five communities have met to discuss mutual defense and protection against the hazards of the Sunshine Wasteland. They have not revealed the location of most of the participants, due to security concerns from any raiders who could be listening to the broadcasts. The radio has proclaimed the conference a major success, stating that any raiders on the east coast would be well advised to steer clear. They have claimed that any raids will be met with full hostility and devastating firepower of all sizes and types.

NEW RADIO STATION IS ON THE AIR. Vault 40, somewhere in the Florida Everglades. For a year or so, the only word on the radios of the Sunshine Wasteland has been from Nasacity. Now a new channel has begun broadcasting its word, allegedly from within the depths of the feared Florida southern swamps. They have offered tempting promises of food and water for any who brave the swamps and find a route south. The radio has told stories of the swamps and the creatures that lie within, talking about giant snakes and alligators as well as more familiar monsters like mirelurks and ghouls. Occasionally “Fireside Chats” are broadcast by someone who claims to be the Overseer of Vault 40. Some believe this station to be not much more than a hoax, attempting to lure people to their deaths deep in the swampland with a story that is too good to be true. The promise of an intact vault with room to spare is tempting to many, and the radio claims that US 41 is at least somewhat clear to the destination. Whether it is a community looking for other life, or a lone psychopath seeking to cause as much death as he can, Vault 40 is clearly a new El Dorado for the people of the Sunshine Wasteland.

Faction Reports

Atomic Foxes
Spoiler :

Disaster has continued to fall upon the Atomic Foxes, as they face new trouble from within. Significant efforts were put into the construction of new fortifications around the settlement of Hahira, hoping to establish it as a strong stronghold in the wasteland. To bolster the defenses, they freed a number of the enslaved people, but found them less than grateful. They continued to face massive resentment, and the slaves themselves refused even the slightest cooperation with the Foxes. This eventually escalated to the point where the newly freed slaves, along with a traitorous Fox, rose up and slaughtered the Atomic Fox garrison in their sleep. The battle was brief and vicious, and the slaves rose up with the rest, leading to some casualties, but by the end of the day, the Atomic Foxes were all killed and Hahira was back under the control of its former residents.

Word reached the bunker of the revolt while the bulk of the Foxes were patrolling Valdosta for scrap parts and equipment. Tasked with surveying the area, they determined the soil in Valdosta and around the bunker is worthless for farming and unsuitable for any agriculture of any type. The expedition itself managed to recover a substantial amount of scrap, bringing it back to the bunker for future construction purposes. Upon return to the bunker they were met only with bad news, as they were informed that the collapsed radio tower could not be salvaged or repaired, along with the word of the revolt to the north.

Turn Stat Changes

-1,000 Scrap Parts from construction
-Recycling Facility, +100 Scrap Parts from salvaged parts
-100 Population, -190 Slaves, -100 Scrap Parts, -400 Ammunition, -100 1-H Guns, -25 High-Tech Melee Weapons, -75 Laser Weapons, -20 Power Armor Suits from Hahira revolt
+400 Scrap Parts from Valdosta salvaging
-125 Food and Water from consumption

Commander’s Challenge: The disasters at the theme park to the south and now at Hahira have caused an immediate drop in loyalty and support to Commander Quinn. Grumblings have increased dramatically and a coup could be in the works against our leadership. Opponents of the commander claim that she has only led the faction to disaster and possibly even starvation. How do we respond to these emerging threats of mutiny?

Calusa Indians
Spoiler :

The year has come to a close quietly for the Calusa tribe, as very little happened of any particular note. Three expeditions were sent out into the wilds with varying aims and purposes. The first was sent simply to observe the squirrels of Sebring, who proved difficult to monitor. Uncannily they always seemed to know when being watched, and immediately would simultaneously turn to watch the watchers until they became so discomfited they departed. There have been no signs of hostile intent, but the number of squirrels spotted further east has begun to grow in the final few weeks of the year. The second expedition was sent further north, and failed to return completely, vanishing into the wasteland without a trace. The final expedition met with even less success, attempting to find a crossing over the Kissimmee River, and travelling all the way down to Lake Okeechobee without any success. They returned, reporting their findings to the Chief.

Turn Stat Changes
-500 Scrap Parts from construction
-30 Population, -30 Ammunition, -20 Low-Tech Melee Weapons, -10 Laser Weapons from lost northern expedition
+25 Population from immigration
+5 Population from Natural Growth
+85 Food, +195 Water from surplus production

Chief’s Challenge: Some of our people have begun reporting strange dreams as of late, and instances of sleepwalking around the camp have increased. Our people believe that we have been cursed by an unknown source, and the more superstitious believe these happenings to be indicators of haunting by spirits. They believe we should attempt to appease the spirits through ritual sacrifice, nodding meaningful towards the new immigrants who arrived recently. How do we respond to these fears?

The Citizens
The Citizens, a promising faction with an enlightened leader has ceased to be as of this year. War, which extinguished so many nations throughout history, has claimed another victim in this new chapter. It began with an innocent trade caravan meeting at the town of Hawthorne, where the Citizens hoped to trade for more ammunition with the Vanguards. They were betrayed and slaughtered by the Vanguards, who had prepared an ambush, leaving no survivors, and the Citizens’ bunker open to attack. The great Vanguard war party assaulted the bunker, and managed to destroy the defenders on the walls, particularly as their expensive laser weapons began to run low on ammunition. As they broke through the walls, the Citizens put up as much of a fight they could with what melee weapons they had left, but eventually the hundred or so survivors of the attack surrendered when the bunker door was breached and the last protectrons were destroyed. Alas, the existence of the Citizens was not allowed to continue even in slavery, and under supervision of the Vanguard war leader, every last man, woman, and child were systematically butchered with melee weapons in order to conserve ammunition. The Citizens were thus wiped from history, with only rumors left acknowledging their existence in the Sunshine Wasteland.

The Conch Thalassocracy of the Keys
Spoiler :

The Thalassocracy continues to face extensive adversity, as President Ruiz proclaims himself President in Perpetuity as the crises continue to escalate. Rioting took place in response, and much of the island’s remaining stockpile of munitions ran out during the fighting, and a number of people were killed. In the fighting, the remaining stockpiles of drinkable water were contaminated by corpses, creating an immediate crisis instead of a theoretical one. The water shortage that resulted led to nearly a hundred deaths from a lack of water, particularly dehydration and other side effects, rather than just dying of thirst. Hoping to perhaps obtain something that would ease the island’s suffering, an expedition was sent east, scouting and salvaging on other islands. On Long Key and surrounding islands, they found the region infested with mirelurks, and were forced to expend the Thalassocracy’s last ammunition reserves to succeed in their mission. With the only water remaining that which can be produced, at the very least, the food situation has stabilized as recent harvest yields have proven extraordinarily productive.

Turn Stat Changes
-350 Water from contamination
-150 Scrap Parts, -2 Tech parts for construction
-40 Ammunition from eastern expedition losses
+200 Scrap Parts from eastern expedition salvage
-30 Population, -90 Ammunition from rioting losses
+1 Military Skill from combat
-90 Population from deaths from water shortage
+300 Food from production surplus

High Doge-President’s Challenge: The water situation is fatal. We could face complete collapse if anything were to happen to our water sources. Some of our people have suggested that enough tech and scrap parts to build a pump/purifier could be mustered if we scrap one of our two remaining boats. How do we respond to this proposal?

Monastic Brotherhood of Poor-Fellows and Crusader Knights
Spoiler :

The Brotherhood faced new encounters with the outside world, finding both possible friends and foes in the wasteland. A raider attack came up against the Brotherhood for the first time, striking at their heart, and being repulsed with only minimal casualties for the defense. The more interesting experience was a journey to the north, to the rumored town of Congress City, formerly known as Palatka. A small expedition was sent to make contact, and first impressions have left a bitter taste in both sides’ mouths. Not only was it apparent that the Vanguards had recently fought a battle somewhere to the west, but they have professed to be atheists, as one Vanguard declared to the clerics sent, “God is dead.” This level of blasphemy has horrified the clerics and their guards, who have returned to report upon the godless society that has emerged within the Holy Land. They have claimed too that the Vanguards are well armed and equipped, more than the usual bands of heretics that wander the wastes. A secondary expedition was sent to Interlachen, working to retrieve what salvage could be found, and returning it to the main stronghold without incident.

Turn Stat Changes
-10 Population from raider attack losses
+1 Military Skill from combat
+120 Scrap Parts from Interlachen salvage
+5 Population from natural growth
+5 Population from immigration
+130 Food and Water from surplus production

Grandmaster’s Challenge: Our leaders are horrified by our discoveries to the north, but are concerned about the capabilities of the Vanguards too. The most fervent have called for an immediate campaign to wipe the infidel off the map, or at very least, hostility to any Vanguard movements in the open. They state that the broadcasts of Nasa Radio indicate that there may be more faithful people out in the waste who could be converted as allies against the infidels. Others have argued for a more temperate approach, seeking to convert the infidels and deal with them diplomatically. How do we respond to this debate?

Nasa
Spoiler :

The people of Nasa have flung open the doors of their citadel, offering new hope and life to the people living on the eastern coast of the Sunshine Wasteland. By eliminating previous immigration restrictions and giving the community of Mims ample supplies they have built up considerable good will among the other communities in the area. This goodwill brought in four representatives to Nasacity in the loudly trumpeted Nasa Congress to discuss mutual defense and protection. The congress was fairly low-key as representatives agreed solely to send aid and soldiers to fight any incursion or siege launched by a large raider band. Some suggestion was made for coordinated patrols, but none felt confident enough to permanently contribute resources and manpower to such an effort. Still, it is viewed as a strong first step towards unified action and alliance. Further on the home front, the community has gained more food supplies as they trade munitions to an isolated farmer bringing a substantial amount of meat to the community daily. He has so far refused to divulge the location of his farm, being highly paranoid in his dealings with the communities on the coast.

Two expeditions were launched from Nasacity, one to the west, and the other back east. The eastward expedition returned to the radioactive ruins of Canaveral Air Force Base, consisting entirely of ghouls. They managed to penetrate into the heart of the base, recovering some tech parts for use at home. Scrap was found, but it was deemed too radioactive for safe use by non-ghoul citizens of Nasa. The western expedition first stopped at the town of Christmas, finding it to be occupied by a prosperous farming community. They apparently have unheard of fertility with their lands and wealth, and a substantial amount of weaponry to protect it. They have amicably greeted Nasa’s expedition, and even sent a representative to the Congress. They have otherwise refused local salvaging rights, but still gave the expedition a safe place to stay before they continued onward. The expedition arrived on the outskirts of Orlando, exploring the ruins of the University of Central Florida and salvaging what scrap parts they could in the process. Some scouts went even further into Orlando itself, finding the ruins to be habited by a large number of ghouls. They have stated though that it appears there are a number of scattered family units of humans surviving throughout the rubble. There does not seem to be any organized communities or outposts beyond those few survivors mentioned. The scouts returned with the rest of the expedition, bringing their news and scrap home.

Turn Stat Changes

Commander’s Challenge: The changing of immigration rules has not made some of our population happy, as we are now swamped in a rapidly escalating number of migrants in Nasacity itself. Our people claim that these are refuse of the wastes, and could be bearing all sorts of diseases or be unsavory types. They argue that past policy of shepherding immigrants to communities like Mims was far more secure and safe for the people of Nasa. They have called for renewal of the old policy, how do we respond?

New Gulf Commonwealth
Spoiler :

The New Gulf Commonwealth has once more been given time to bask in the glow of their victory over the spider-ants and their insane overlord. The primary objective of the people of the NGC was to migrate from their current stronghold to the much improved Vault 77 in the marsh. Seeking greater security and position for the commonwealth, the still pristine vault was a very tempting habitat for the society. Before moving on, the people salvaged what they could from their old fort, gathering scrap and supplies from what they had built previously. Furthermore, smaller expeditions were sent to Grand Island and Haines Creek to find anything of value, but they only brought a minute amount of scrap home from their journeys. After these efforts were complete, the whole population moved to Vault 77, and began working to make this new bunker into a proper home. The old food and water recycling systems were brought online to the best of the faction’s ability, various debris and tech parts were found in the vault’s stores, bolstering the faction as a whole. By the end of the year the Commonwealth has settled in well to their new home, with more food, water, security than they had ever enjoyed previously.

Governor’s Challenge: We’ve at last achieved some degree of safety and stability, allowing our people to focus on other pursuits. Occupying the vault has given us access to the large amount of educational materials within designed for educated the vault’s occupants. With this comes the opportunity to establish a proper school and educational system for our children. Some of our people have called for the abandoning the old ways of oral education, and creating a school to better educate our young. On the other hand, some people claim that the materials provided by the vaults could undermine the unity of our people, stating that the books could brainwash the children against their elders. They also claim that the resources that would be dedicated to education would be better spent on other improvements to our new settlement. How do we respond?

Pox Chains Gang
Spoiler :

The Pox Chains Gang had two highly unpleasant encounters with raiders towards the end of this year. The first signs of trouble came when contact was made with a heavily armed group of possible bandits arriving in Tallahassee from the north. They offered to join the Gang, but demanded a number of concessions that appeared intolerable, and their equipment was just too good to pass up. As preparations were made to launch an attack on this band of possible bandits, another group swept into the city and attacked the Gang’s compound in great force. Thankfully, the gang repulsed the attackers and sent them running with fairly limited casualties. They then launched their bid to wipe out the other group and seize their equipment. They attempted to draw a large number of ghouls into the enemy camp, but this was only partially successful, and the raiders managed to destroy the ghouls sent against them with incredible ease. The Chains Gang attack on the camp was similarly unsuccessful, especially as they began to run out of ammunition for their weapons. The enemy repulsed the attack, returned a few captured prisoners, and then abandoned the Tallahassee area, moving to other locations, leaving a note saying: “You just missed out on a beautiful friendship.”

-40 Population, -150 Ammunition from failed attack on well-armed raiders
+1 Military Skill from combat
+30 Population from immigration
-165 Food and Water from consumption

Boss’s Challenge: We are completely out of ammunition! Our weakness is well known to other groups in the ruins of Tallahassee and we are at great risk. Our people are divided into two camps. One group claims we should focus our resources into building a forge and crafting melee weapons, claiming this will reduce our need for ammunition in the future. The other claims that the proper course to take would be building an ammo convertor, allowing us to craft more ammunition for the weapons we have. At the moment we lack the resources to take both paths. How do we respond to this debate?

Saint Vikings
Spoiler :

The year ended as quietly as it began for the Saint Vikings, with not much disturbing the calm that has emerged in St. Petersburg following the raiders’ defeat. Migrants have continued to flow into Hangarville, which has had its defenses bolstered by varying types of weaponry. People from both this makeshift community and the vault have provided support in salvaging the ruins, gathering what scrap they can. Nothing of particular interest was found in the process, and the ample loads of scrap recovered has been added to storage.

Overseer’s Challenge: Take us out to the ball game! A few of the more athletically inclined members of the vault have suggested the formation of a baseball league created of teams both inside the vault and one from Hangarville. They have argued that games will be good for morale of the people in the vault and outside. As our vault is not one provided with an in-house field and they have argued that defenses be created at Tropicana Field for the purposes of playing baseball. Opponents claim that this is a flagrant waste of resources, regardless of the possible morale benefit. How do we respond to this debate?

The Vanguards
Spoiler :

The Vanguards took their first aggressive actions to spread the revolution before the year came to a close. War came with the Citizens, much to the enemy’s surprise and brief regret. In preparation for a conflict, ammunition was produced and an ample war party was sent west to meet a trading caravan from Gainesville. According to official reports, the Citizens attempted to rip off the Vanguards in the trade and opened fire first, sparking the opening battle in Hawthorne. Despite their own weapons and even protection from robots, the Citizens’ caravan was easily destroyed in the fighting. With the element of surprise on the Vanguards’ side, and lust for vengeance following the surprise betrayal by the Citizens, they struck at the enemy bunker itself. To the unpleasant surprise of the Vanguards, the Citizens proved adept at fighting, and possessing more ammunition than expected. The fight was far bloodier than had been anticipated, but they still managed to break down the door to the enemy compound and lay waste to the surviving soldiers, particularly as they ran out of ammunition. What happened after this point has had conflicting reports, but the official stance has been that the Citizens fought to the last in a drug-addled haze, killing their own children rather than allowing surrender.

These reports came back to the home front, which had surprising news of its own. Comrade Oscar briefly wandered into the wastes, as was his habit, and returned with a fully functioning energy reactor. What use this will serve for the people is still unknown. More importantly, a group of self-proclaimed holy men arrived at the gates of Congress City, claiming to speak for a group called the Brotherhood of Poor-Fellows and Crusader Knights. They have stated that they have come to the Sunshine Wasteland, what they call the “Holy Land” to defend it from heathens and infidels. They represent a somewhat dubious Church, and were shocked at the state atheism we profess. Talks quickly deteriorated, but the clerics left peacefully when told to depart. They did not impart their location or other information about themselves beyond their proclaimed mission to the wastes. Reports have other groups of the Brotherhood salvaging the ruins in Interlachen, though there has been little other interaction with them by our people.

Comrade’s Challenge: The alleged massacre at Gainesville has left a bitter taste in the mouth of some of our veterans, including Comrade Morgan. They have reported symptoms of horrible nightmares and other indicators of unease with their actions. It has been claimed that the massacre was unneeded and brutal, and the fault of Comrade Oscar. While no open dissent has been claimed, these veterans have clearly become disillusioned with Oscar and his leadership. How do we respond to this possible challenge to the status quo?

Vault 40
Spoiler :

The people of Vault 40 had a fairly uneventful year, but have continued to struggle to keep the area immediately around the vault clear of flora and vicious wildlife. Feeling a sense of loneliness and despair at the past few years’ events, they constructed a radio tower, hoping to broadcast into the wasteland looking for other civilized life, like the voice on Nasa Radio. They called to the people of the wasteland, telling about ample food, water and safety within the vault, particularly if they find a safe route there. In December the prayers and broadcasts of Vault 40 were answered as a large party was detected by perimeter scanners coming from the west along US 41. They claimed to have travelled after hearing the broadcast, and have reported on conditions further to the west. Apparently the small town of Marcos Island is overrun with Mirelurks, while Naples is home to a number of violent and vicious raider and cannibal gangs. They have warned that if they can make it through the swamps, the raiders of Naples may soon follow. They have also demonstrated that US 41 is fairly safe for travel all the way out to Naples, but they do not know the status of other routes in and out of the swamplands.

Overseer’s Challenge: The Overseer is ill! He has become deathly sick of an unknown illness and likely does not have long to live. While Overseer Serrano will be missed, we need to choose a replacement for when he does die. There are three viable candidates that have come forward for this difficult decision. The overseer’s brother, who also inherited their father’s charisma, is the first choice that has been put forward. The security chief has also been suggested as a new leader, having been seen to be fearsome in combat and worthy by his merits as a fighter. Lastly, the head engineer of the reactor, well known for his scientific acumen and knowledge, could make a well-read overseer. Who should Overseer Serrano choose to be his successor?

By the laws of our city, we hereby proclaim all surviving members of the Atomic Foxes to be thieves and murderers, and thusly are sentenced to death if they should return to our community. You have been warned.

Would you be interested in trading some of your Scrap Parts for our excess Tech Parts? Such a trade could help us improve local production of food and water.

To: Nasa
From: Mims

Could you perhaps provide us with sufficient tech parts to enable us to begin construction on a water pump/purifier? Without said tech parts, it is unlikely we will achieve self-sufficiency.

To: Nasa
From: State of Daytona

We are looking to trade for ammunition after a raider attack this year depleted over half of our current stockpile. We would also be interested in obtaining any amount of tech parts you could part with. What sort of deal can you offer?
