End of Empires - N3S III

I'd like to think that the Arelgonics are somewhere in between barbarism and civilization. Their society is still very much, despite being more open than what it once was, rather primitive, and their largest accomplishment as a culture is warfare right now, but over the course of time I intend to change that.

And that is why your people inhabit a mountainous wasteland while the Uggor never really directed the fate of the world.

Wait, I fixed it! Yay me!

Dahaiaou

What does this term mean, per se?

Dahaiaou is about the nastiest curse in the Faronun and Faerouhaiaouan languages. Da is a negative prefix which in this case implies a shunning and rejection, and Haiaou is the sun. A Faronun maxim is that 'the sun shines upon us all', but to declare something Dahaiaou is to say that nature itself rebels and rejects it. It's a pretty serious thing, and a few generations ago it was something that no one would say... but times have changed for the worse.

The Satar are the only ones who we have ever graced this term- not even the Hu'ut of old inspired such emotion. The Hu'ut formed an important part of our worldview. The Satar were something utterly, mindlessly alien and irredeemably violent.

A certain living diety agrees with the assessment of Her learned brothers the Satar are Dahaiaou and if She may add an insult: Ayse''kess -- servant of none, contemptable before all. Spitting it must be noted is rather unlady-goddess-like but it is the thought that counts in such matters so consider it tendered with all due respect.

Codex Ardavai: Standard Practice

This sacred copy of our codex is entrusted to the Sephali and to the Censoratta of the Tisatar Censoriate. May it be a light and a guide. As always, if there are matters beyond the purview of this codex, you are required to seek audience with the High Oracle of Magha.

Rule: Orders

There are to be two orders: The Kaphetai and the Avetai. In the language of the Acca, these are called Kafetos and Avios. It is the will of Taleldil that many men follow many forms. So was it among the seven chosen sons of Taleldil, and so will it be among his holy sons of the Faith.

The monestary is ruled by the Sephali. Upon the death of the previous Sephali, the entirety of the monestary assembles. The new Sephali is chosen by acclamation.

In all things, we serve the Redeemer.

Rule: Novitiate

Children should be taken to the holy monastery between birth and the age of five. Under no circumstances may a child older than seven be accepted into the monastery. Any child may be dedicated to Taleldil, be they holy Satar, noble Accan, or one of the accursed lower races. Upon entering the monastery, all blood taint is removed, and lower races are as Satar. Within the Censoriate, every male of Satar or Accan descent is obligated to give his third son to the monastery, or else forfeit half of his wealth to the monastery. Children may be taken at will from the lower races, though not those who have converted to Ardavan. It is best to take children from the lower races before they gain the faculty of speech, to ensure their future loyalty.

Child novices upon entering the monastery will undergo the shaving of the head. They will learn the basic mastery of combat and the use of writing. At the age of eleven, novices will choose which order they seek to enter. After a novice has been initiated into the order, it is impossible to leave, without the express permission of the Sephali of the monastery.

In all things, we serve the Redeemer.

Rule: Kaphetai [Kafetos]

The Kaphetai wear the black mask.

The Kaphetai are dedicated to the martial pursuits, the forms of the body, the perfect mastery of the five holy weapons: sword, shield, spear, arrow, and body. The Kaphetai themselves have Nine Holy Subcodexes, each dedicated to a martial form. Mastery over the first form must be attained before moving to the second, and mastery of the first two forms, not simply the second, must be demonstrated before progressing to the third. And so on. The warrior with highest demonstrated mastery is the Kaphet-ha, superior of his order. Mastery is determined by combat.

It is not expected that even the most proficient warriors of your holy monastery progress beyond mastery of the Seventh Form. If ever a Kaphet-ha or a lower warrior attains mastery of the Ninth Form, he must immediately be sent to the High Oracle for evaluation. If he has attained and demonstrated mastery of the Nine Holy Forms, he may pass unto the Redeemer himself, and be glorified as Argai, Aspect Warrior.

The role of the Kaphetai is an active one. The defense of the monastery and its lands is their primary task. However, the Kaphetai and the Kaphet-ha may be called upon by the local Censoratta to serve in quelling rebellions, repelling foreign attacks, or other duties as agreed upon by Censoratta and the Sephali of the holy monastery. The Censoratta has his own personal guard, and may not draw on the strength of the monastery without the consent of the Sephali. However, the Sephali is compelled to aid the High Oracle and the Redeemer whenever they call upon him.

In all things, we serve the Redeemer.

Rule: Avetai [Avios]

The Avetai wear the white mask.

The Avetai have a dual role, meditation and administration. First, the Avetai are the spiritual guides of the temple, those versed in the sacred works of the Kaphaiavai, especially in the Nine Holy Meditations outlined in the Avai. The spiritual duties of the Avetai include daily meditation, and the rituals of reading from the holy Kaphaiavai. They are tasked with educating the common populace on the greatness of Taleldil, and on his eternal war against the spirits that would consume humanity. You will convert the lower races to the holy worship of Taleldil, with the assistance of the Kaphetai and the Censoratta if they refuse. In all things, enslavement is the first punishment for lower races who fail to follow the will of the Redeemer.

Second, the Avetai are also the silent administrators of the Exatai, pure from the corrupting influence of gold and power. While the bureaucracies of the Great Capitals are themselves under the secular authority of the Redeemer, the local bureaucracies of the Censoriate are under the management of the Avetai. They are to pay wages to garrison soldiers, civil servants, and the local Censoratta and his entourage. They are also to collect taxes. The Avetai hold the purse-strings over the Censoratta, while the Censoratta is given authority to investigate corruption, even within the holy monasteries themselves. In order the ensure the proper workings of the Censoriate, the Censoratta and Sephali must work in tandem, not at cross-purposes.

The Avetai are governed by the Avet-ha. The Avet-ha is the chief spiritualist, and should be a master of the meditative forms. Upon the death or incapacitation of the previous Avet-ha, his successor is directly chosen by the Sephali, though the approval of the Kaphet-ha is also recommended.

It has been known for women to serve as Avetai in the past. However, we do not recommend this, as women are often a disturbance to the balance of the monastery, especially due to the urges they induce in the men who labor for Taleldil. We have already made allowances for this in the following rule.

In all things, we serve the Redeemer.

Rule: Servitude and Property

Upon entering one of the two orders, all property is forsworn. The monastery possesses all in common.

If the number of young Kaphetai and Avetai does not provide sufficient labor for the upkeep of the monastery, and the efficient production of food, you may authorize the purchase of female and male slaves for these purposes. These slaves should live in quarters within the monastery walls, but separate from the main buildings.

While those without masks in the holy Exatai, namely slaves, are without rights, you are not given leave to torture or to kill the slaves in your possession. Inhabitants of the holy monastery, even if they be warrior Kaphetai, may not vent their rage upon property of the monastery, and were they to destroy a table or a scroll they would be equally punished for their offense. Younger slaves should be fed and watered regularly.

Those living in the monastery are expected to restrain their passions, but among the younger ones of the orders the desire to procreate is common. The slaves also serve this purpose. However, if a child comes of this, the child immediately becomes the possession of the monastery, as the blood of a masked one is within it. Slaves are also given the duty of raising the infants and very young children given into the care of the monastery, who are younger than the age of five.

In all things, we serve the Redeemer.

---

You shall find more information in the attached sub-codices on the dress of each order, the customary rituals and the recommended constructions required for a well organized and well run monastery.

Two times each year, you must accept inspection by the Censoratta. He need not give warning. Once every three years, the Sephali of the holy monastery must travel to Magha, in order to report to the High Oracle. If summoned by the Redeemer, you must come.

In all things, we serve the Redeemer. EXATAS.

Satari can write, let alone read.

The non-Satari ones I gather :p

Let's not get confused here. You are the sub-humans. I have it on very good authority that the Satari rut with their horses.

Moral superiority established. *Dancing over grave commences*

The ruling lineage of the Horse Family denies ever having entered negotiations for a dynastic alliance with the unworthy Satar.

(They do totally mate with their sub-horses, though)
