btw I notice that the Arab Camel Archer is the only unit that people have seen as both the weakest and the strongest so far.

Okay, now after that - Vexing, I wouldn't have those guys as one of my "most feared" units, just curious about your rationale.

I had an unlucky start where I was right next to Aztecs in some bushy terrain, and they picked me as their first "victim". Set my initial start back badly.

But they seem so situational. I didn't have any trouble with them once I recovered and they got into my less bushy territory.

Are you picking them because they're available so early?

People love Janissaries, right? This is the same thing, except early game. Heal on kill is a really nice ability - only real problem with Jags is the very short window you typically have to pump them out before they obsolete.

jaguars are just fun to play with. that you start with one is a nice bonus, that they're available early and in the upgrade path to longswords are both nice. janissary is clearly a better unit (probably the best) but muskets have an even shorter time frame in which to build them, and you have to be playing ottomans.

The war chariot is too fast too weak and I like the immortal for their healing, also later when upgraded. edit: also for having 8 strengh instead of 7 and it's worth the more hammers.

SotL utterly dominates its domain for two eras, gels with its civ's trait (an important consideration, I think) and is effective artillery to boot. Not the strongest (no keshiks!) by any means, but cool and better than they're given credit for, and they could use a pre-emptive leg-up.
Panzers don't do enough to make a pretty useless unit useful.

Zero comes too late to be really useful. On the other hand, out-of-the-gate Samuri with Shock III (Shock I from UA + Shock II and III from Barracks/Armory) are absolutely stupendous. Where most other armies would be upgrading to Shock III/Rough III (whatever the second one's name is, I foget), the Japs are already sporting March and Blitz. Plus the extra GGs ability basically equates to 2 or so extra golden ages from popped GGs (if you are an active warmongerer). That's why I love them :mwaha:
