[MOD] Planet Roanoke, a/k/a all SMAC'ed up

Just want to say that I really like the civic icons, especially the government and economy ones. Did you come up with those yourself? They really capture the concepts well.

Well, I didn't play SMAC. Didn't have a computer at the time. :( Long, bad story. LMAO

But, if you want some xml done, or whatever....Let me know. I'll be more than happy out. I have been working on a mod to take some of the current stuff people have created, match some techs to it, and see if I couldnt come up with some kind of futuristic mod. :)

Let me know.

Ideas and brainstorming are a big help senwiz. Especially if yourmind is on futuristic anyhow. ;)

Well, I think the curent stuff is pretty good as it is now. Firaxis has hit most of the major ideas, IMO.

But, stuff I would consider adding:

New Tanks - There is a good hovertank in the unit section.

New ships - Maybe a Star Destroyer, or something out Robotech. The Zentrati had very organic looking ships. It looks like took a tree and add spaceship guts. LOL

Flying vehicles - Maybe adapt the Tie and Rebel stuff that Dual has been doing. Reskins are easy enough without getting into entirely new designs. Of course, that is possible as well.

A change of the Mech Inf. I think the APC is a good one for that from, again, the unit section.

I was trying to come up some new promotions, but I havent come up with any good ones yet.

New Techs:

I was going to add something about the Television, GPS, Radar, Add a WW in on Satiellite, making the Hubel available. I was thinking Quantum Mechanics, Hyperspace engines, necessary for any good spaceship. LOL.

I guess, it depends on how much of the tech tree you want to redo, which is what I'm trying to gather right now.

Well this isn't a SMAC redo, more of a SMAC Remix. I think we should stick with the first era as is and then revamp the entire tech tree to take into account how the Planet is starting to control/influence the civs. Not sure how they will flesh out, but we need to consider Borg, Cyneid, Mutagen, and other lifeform factors.

AFAIK, the 3 changes recommended by The Great Apple from here seems to work -- at least, it's no worse than it was before the patch. (We need MIPmaps!)

What do we change them to? 161, ?, ?

edit - 161, 103, 100

This is why you use the GlobalDefinesAlt. :)

If someone could point me to a "Best Practices" document, I actually can be quite anal about following the rules. How/where to modify XML, putting Python script into separate functions, etc... anyone know where such a document might exist?

I begged Kael at one time to write a Tutorial on Mod making, but he snubbed me. ;)

Since our mod is young it's not a big deal. But in the GlobalDefineAlt.xml it even says at the top <DefineName>MODS_SHOULD_OVERRIDE_GLOBAL_DEFINES_HERE</DefineName>

Don't worry, the Moon mod is seriously hurting now because of this....

Thanks. I was trying to follow the SMAC lead in terms of abstract images that capture, well, abstract concepts. Picked a color for each civic type and there you go. I wanted the style to be consistent without making it impossible to keep consistency, and I realized SMAC did that well by keeping all the design really simple, but evocative.

senwiz (and anyone else interested), please join us! We have a pretty kickin' conversation going on; follow woodelf's sig to our brainstorming space.

Indeed! I'm sure Pad is as sick of me as I am of him after it's been just the two of for a while. ;)

I'll be more than happy to help. I have never played that game, so I'm not sure what the purpose of the mod is. I can do any coding you want done though. You just need to point me in a direction and I'll be more than happy to help.

Honestly, having someone who didn't play SMAC might be a good thing. We all have Hero worship about the game and an outsider or control would be a good anchor for us. Join in the discussion!

From what I'm getting from reading this, religion is going to be replaced with lifeform ascention, an interesting concept to say the least. You have added the Borg, which imeediately screams to me, but....I think one more "race" might be good. Something like a Terminator type or cyborg. The Borg, as from Star Terk, would be a sort of Cre/Exp type of thing. I see Terminators are more of a Agg/Exp type, as in ...You do what I say or I kill you. LOL

I'm still reading. LOL

Since Lifeforms will be co-existing in cities and civs there will most likely be hybrids of Lifeforms, if possible.

Well, considering a borg is already a hybrid, a hybrid of a hybrid is what...? :)

We're still conceptual on the lifeform-as-religion concept (see link in woodelf's sig) but part of the idea is that if you choose a borg lifestyle, as it were, you don't HAVE to be aggressive; however, the buildings, specialists, and units available to a borg-adopting civ is probably going to lean you that way, as they are production-oriented. (They COULD produce peaceful buildings!) The Cyneid are science-oriented, so while you can certainly flood the Net or whatever it'll be called with nasty viruses, you probably will go more research.

Race is not destiny, but the lifeforms do have some tendencies...

Congratulations -- a very nice SMAC feel. Played a few turns but then the mod caused Civ4 to crap itself. I'll drop back from time to time to see how it's going.

I think we've figured out the CTD *crosses fingers*. Hopefully we'll have an updated version up shortly.
