Star Trek Online... Anyone Interested

I got into the beta. Too many loading screens too much grinding [ 6+ hours and only on lvl 3] and u cant beam down without a misson

We need to get into a fleet and see what kind of damage we can do!! Anyone have an idea for a fleet name?

Fraxis Sector Defensive Fleet sound good. :p

Absolutely. Hitting the 'O' key brings up the social menu and from that hit 'friends' and you can add or remove players as friends.

Its also possible to switch to whichever instance you all want to play in as well, though I cant remember the function for it atm. But I am routinely able to group up with friends online, and run missions together. Missions also increase in difficulty based on how many are in your group as well, so if your doing a 'patrol' mission which has about 5-7 sub-missions, you will end up with a boatload of experience by the time you finish the mission and call it back in to starfleet.

You can often finish missions up quicker as well by dividing tasks and proceeding accordingly. But doing this can often find a team member jumped and outnumbered pretty quick so ymmv.

Cool, thanks. :)

If you see Igloodude on there, it's probably me.

PRO TIP: You can send items from your Fed character to your Klingon character through the in game mail system (but you have to send and receive mail via the mail terminals in SB01 and Qo'nos; you can't do it through the minimap interface). So you can twink your Klingon with Mk IV stuff you no longer or never used when lvling your Fed character, or you can send him consumables (especially ground based consumables, which I have never used...) to help him in PvP.

So how is the game? Been looking at some videos it looks entertaining but I can't afford to play another MMO

If you are only level 3 after 6 hours somethings wrong with your playstyle. I got level 3 in a fraction of that.

I've gotten to Captain in a week.

well "fun" is hard to judge objectively so I can only give you my view. I started back in DAoC beta as a redshirt (in star trek terminology) way back when the pvp in that game had huge problems as well. it was fun for me then because it was new for me. as the game developed and I got to know the game better and found out what it was that I wanted to do in it I got very much intrigued and even captivated by the advancements DAoC pvp offered you. and, who am I kidding, the ability to boast my deeds to the community about what I could do with my 8 man group and where I did stand in the rankings and all the phat lewt I carried.

in STO I certainly get the fun as far as fun fights are concerned. even though I am only PUGging most of the people I have played so far with have had a basic grasp of what it is to support each other. my friends list is growing longer every time I play and there are repeat performances. there are no realm points to spend on unique abilities, however, and there is no ranking, for lack of a better word for it. to cut to the chase: I am scared of hitting the level cap right now and I can't progress my character down a lateral lane (pvp skills/ranks, though equipment works, seeing as Klingons have no item pve quest rewards) as opposed to the vertical one (gaining levels).

pvp is fun, lacks the rewards I crave. pve is fun on fed side, at times. I'd give this game another three months to mature if you are on the fence about it and are anything like me.

now, that being said, I still want to hit tier 5 and try out that carrier and then I'll have to reroll once I know how my endspecc is going to be. so there certainly is a "one more turn" factor for me. it could just be so much bigger. everybody is stealing ideas from other mmorpgs, they should have stolen some from Mythic.

If someone does look me up in-game, please mention CFC (or have the same nick there as you do here), else I'm going to assume you're a WowGold-type spammer; I've already ignored one friend invite on that basis.

What level are you guys? It's times like these I really miss being a student... seeing all those Admirals floating around in their bomb diggy space ships makes me sad :( I'm only lvl 22 on my Fed and 11 on my Klingon.

Level 7 Commander in Heavy Escort USS Olympia.

Rear Admiral 1 of the Assault Cruiser USS Seattle

NCC 98204-E :)

What's assault cruiser like? I'm thinking assault cruiser (when I get to rear admiral  ), cos I'm worried that the extra science slot of star cruiser would force me into healing rather than off-tanking.

It's pretty neat I guess. If worst comes to worse you could get a star cruiser with your credits. I've amassed a million credits throughout the game.

Where is the best place to sell the stuff you get in the game? I've looked and cant find a pattern to get the best deals.

I think the Fed starbases all give 50% of face value, your ship replicator gives 40%, and traders give less than that I think. The problem is, there is just so much loot in the game that the exchange is practically useless, at least at the level I'm at...

So how would you rate this game on a 1-10 scale base? I need a new addiction, and it sounds like a fun change of pace compared to the likes of Modern Warfare 2, Counter-Strike, World of Warcraft and the likes.

Not as good as WoW, but it's much more "casual friendly". The way I see it is not as a game I'd dedicate a great deal of my life to, like WoW, but more as a game I play for 2 months and then move on to the next, like MW2. I can't really give it a /10 rating though...
