No the game in general has aged very poorly and fallen way behind. I had a heavily modded Oblivion a couple years ago where I went through and finished everything I cared to (except Shivering Isles, still didn't finish that) and while they helped it still just felt outdated in a way that wasn't good. I honestly wouldn't recommend it to almost anyone anymore.

I've never felt it really that outdated, even Morrowind it hasn't felt that outdated yet. But, to each their own I guess.

At least Morrowind had a much more unique setting/world compared to the average med-fantasy fair of Oblivion... For that reason alone I will have many more lasting memories of Morrowind and would be more likely to go back to Morrowind and install a few mods to improve the experience. Skyrim had more common tropes than Morrowind, but it had a strong and consistent "northern theme" to it. I think I don't need any more temperate-europe-foedal-wannabe fantasy games.

Yeah Oblivion's world was still fun to explore and stuff but it was pretty blandly inspired. Really weird 180 turn around from Morrowind which was really just a fantastic setting. Even though Morrowind is certainly outdated in some ways, I don't feel like Skyrim and especially Oblivion managed to really nail the feeling of the setting quite as well (although Skyrim's setting is pretty decent).

I agree with most of what SorcererDave has to say about the Elder Scrolls and when I don't, it hasn't been a particularly large disagreement (so far, at least).

2d screenies don't really work, so have a bunch of them stitched together in a moving frame!

The Witcher may be getting old (and running on a game engine from 2002) but it is still quite pretty.

Meet the Meltards!

Legends of Grimrock 2 - my full human party all with Fast Learner and Skilled.

Skyrim screenies:

I totally dig Hermaeus Mora's style:

Spoiler :

I apparently got a letter of inheritance from "Stormcloak Soldier" even though I am an Imperial Legate:

Spoiler :

If you don't know what that means, basically in-game if you befriend someone and they die, you might get a letter of inheritance where the deceased gives you money because they liked you so much. In my case this doesn't make sense because 1) it seems like a random NPC soldier I killed in a Legionnaire-Stormcloak skirmish I stumbled upon; 2) I sided with the Legion like usual, so why would some randomly generated enemy soldier consider me a friend?

I guess in my head I roleplay it was a worthy opponent who respected me or something, but it's kinda weird.

Cities XL:
Spoiler :
Wrong, wrong, WRONG.

These damned skilled workers are never satisfied.

Game's got issues, definitely. They even released a "sequel", Cities XXL, a week or two ago that basically added in nothing.

How do they not have the source code to (what is presumably) their own game??

How do they not have the source code to (what is presumably) their own game??

Because it isn't their own game. The dev studio was shut down sometime not too long after the game originally came out and the publisher inherited the game, but for some reason not the source code.

It's a pity too. While I still think the old Simcity games are better than Cities XL (if we ignore some modern advantages the latter has like better graphics), I thought Cities XL had potential to be a decent city-builder. But frankly at this point I've heard some people - who otherwise disliked SimCity 2013 - say that SimCity 2013 is better than Cities XL.

@Civ'ed - Is that Darkest Dungeon ?
It seems like an interesting game. How is it ?

Well legend of Grimrock 2 is rather brutal, it turns out that my low health backline rogue and alchemist still aren't safe behind my knight and battlemage, both of which are meant to be the tank classes.

From reading around, a lot of people just play the game with 4 barbarians for maximum health on all characters and specialise them in different weapons (heavy and light wep front row, missile and either thrown or reach in the back row). Silly unbalanced game.

Heres a quick video I made of trying to take on the second summoning circle with my family of Meltard's ... I got Meltard asses handed to me rather quickly.

I shall have to return at a much higher level it seems :(

Quality still processing, will be available up to 1080p soon.

Stupid knight and battlemage why u no tank??? Well my battlemage is lacking a wand or orb for his +10 protection and resist bonuses for front lining because the Alchemist needed the first wand to be able to cast spells. Wizards and Battlemages can cast spells with bare hands while other classes need a caster weapon first.

I built the group with a Knight and Battlemage for front line, and a max DPS Rogue and Alchemist backline. Both knights and Battlemages get 50% weight reduction of equipped armour, plus the knight gets +1 protection per level and +50% evasion from equipped shields, while theBattlemage gets +10 protection and +10 resist all with a wand or orb equipped.

Rouges get huge bonuses to dual wield and missile weapons making them powerful backline attacklers (Accuracy 2 gives all melee weapons reach so they can attack from the backrow), and Alchemists multiply herbs in their backpacks and get a buff to firearms, though this is nice it takes up a backrow slot meaning either ditching the rogue, or swapping the wizard to a battlemage as I did. Plus firearms get jammed or fail a lot, so its useful to make the alchemist a secondary caster or throwing weapon specialized instead. Wizards get higher spell points and willpower, while Battlemages get more health and the bonuses mentioned above for tanking. Though also with an Alchemist you pretty much end up with unlimited health and mana potions negating the need for the Wizard's bonuses anyway.

There are also lots of races, I tried a full human group for my first playthough because they can start with +20% exp bonus and 1 additional skill point, which eventually gives them a +2 level bonus from being a level ahead of other races plus the free skill point.
