HAHAHA! YES! YES! :D I'm in the middle of an Earth1000AD Game which I have to tell you about!

(Note: I'm in the process of editing and re-writing the first few posts to make them more 'story-rific'. Please enjoy the revisions as they come, but I don't have a set-in-stone schedule)

It is said that the history of the Khmer truly began in the year 1000. It was in that year the young rpince Suryavarman II was coronated in the throne of Angkor Thom. As the Buddhist ceremonies in the nearby Angkor Wat commenced, many people were already grumbling. Suryavarman was the younger prince, and his father, the God-King Suryavarman, had died in mysterious circumstances. Even before taking the crown, Suryavarman II had proclaimed the superiority of the atheist religions such as Buddhism over the time-honoured traditions present in Hinduism. He caused great controversy as he waged his father’s wars of conquests in the 10 years prior to ascension, capturing the cities of Hanoi and Pagan, the seats of the large and powerful Pagan Empire. While the city was still in revolt, he used money collected from peasants and looted from the many merchants of Hanoi to fund the construction of the Shwedaygon Paya in Pagan. His father had refused to publicly denounce his youngest son. All this time, the elder son, Divakarapandita was in India, learning the princly arts from Asoka. He had been unable to come on the holy day determined by the monks of Angkor Wat, and Hindu astrologers foretold great glory for Suryavarman II. It was thus decided that he should rule.

Within the first century of his rule, it was established that the gods (or in the opinion of the king, simple luck) had graced Suryavarman with immortality. With this intangibile fact in place, an army was roused in order to show the splender of the Khmer Monarch to the rest of the world. In a series of conquests, which will be detailed later on, the Khmer king and his army of Elephants, Archers, and elite Swordsmen ransacked China, dethroning the oppressive Qin Dynasty, and pushing back the Mongol hordes to northern Siberia. By 1300, two centuries after his coronation, Suryavarman II controlled the largest empire in the world at that time.

However, there seemed to be no end in sight for Suryavarman II. As the armies of conquest finished the pillaging of China, Suryavarman II ordered the immigration of thousands of Khmer subjects to China, to settle in locations determined by the Great One himself. The city of Rajavihara was founded in 1305 AD on the coast of the South China Sea, amidst the fertile Rice paddies and near the Silk and Sugar Plantations to the north. Close to Korea, Isvarapura was formed, a city of pious Hindu merchants who wished to name the city after their deity Vishnu. These two cities quickly grew off the abundant resources around them, eventually competing with Hanoi and Angkor Thom for prestige and glory.

A great discovery was made to the north of Hanoi on the three-hundred and fiftieth year of Suryavarman’s eternal rule. Large deposits of Copper and Iron had been found. Suryavarman II ordered the profits and metals from these mines to flow into the coffers of the Khmer military. A forge was constructed in Hanoi, to take advantage of this new source of production and to create new swords, maces, and pikes for soldiers. Soon, regiments of Macemen, Pikemen, and powerful War Elephants said to be bred from Airavata himself( elephant of the Hindu deity Indra, god of rain), assembled under the Khmer banner in Pagan, ready for a march on India. Suryavarman II sent a messenger to Benares. The messenger had explict orders to come within two weeks, or he would be presumed dead. He was also instructed to bring Prince Divakarapandita back with him.

The game finally started getting interesting when I got Iron and Copper under my main production city's mines. Pumping out a Maceman a turn, and using the veterans of the China Campaigns, I formed a 'formidable' army of around two dozen units. I sent these to the west, conquering and razing the Indian cities except Benares, which was netting me around 50 shrine income per turn after it came out of revolt. India succumbed to the Khmer around 1375 AD. I resettled, and began peacefully building while using my scientific lead to tech to Rifling and Steel.

This led to the Arabian Wars.

I finally learnt the art of the draft, and after grabbing Communism, revolted into Nationhood, State Property, Theocracy, Hereditary Rule, and Caste System. I was pumping out a Cannon (later Artillery) and 2 Riflemen (later Infantry) every turn from my 3 core military cities. A few strong naval cities built Frigates. I declared war with 30 units. 3 Riflemen went north to Samarqand, the rest heading with the Cannons to Ghazni. Airships assaulted the units within, preventing me from losing my siege. The two cities fell in 5 turns. I was in a Golden Age, so I pressed my advantage and turned towards Baghdad with well over 50 units. To the north, the Spanish-conquered city of Madrid (razed and resettled by the AI) fell to Saladin's hordes. The AI was being stupid as usual, and had placed his army in the city, within a turn's reach of my forces. Half the troops headed to Madrid, which fell. The massive dent in the Arabian power graph was satisfying. After 3 turns, all my units were reunited outside Baghdad, which fell in the 1400s. After that, Saladin offered Capitulation, City of Najran, 4 GPT, a World Map, and a lump sum as peace deal/ I was greedy and stupid and did not accept, instead pressing onwards to Jerusalem, which fell as well. Now, his peace deal was everything before except the City and the Capitulation. Good job, Gooblah .

Now its 1600. In 6 centuries, the Khmer control everything from Indonesia to Jerusalem, and from China to Australia. Also, the Koreans and Malinese have accepted their rightful place as vassals of the Khmer.

My massive Army is holed up in Jerusalem right now. Once its out of revolt, I'll be sending Machine Guns over and declaring war on Europe. Fun, fun fun. :goodjob:

Thanks for all the comments, guys! Here are the screenies you ordered. A few more will be coming (my invasion routes, army size, foreign relations). These are a survey of my lands....

The Homeland of three cities. Hanoi is my main production center.

The First Conquests. China is full of good land; I control the Confucian Shrine, Mongolia has Yanjing, and Korea is my vassal.

The Colonies. These cities and their plantations provide the commerce needed to keep my conquest and research going. I'm utilizing the Cottage/Plantation Economy, since I'm finding the Specialist Economy a tad hard to implement here.

The Second Conquest. First target here was Benares. The other cities were razed and replaced by good Khmer towns. Workers and slaves retooled the environment to suit the needs of an Empire. Amarendraputra is a troop city. Chok Gargyar is awaiting a Military Academy to become my main naval city.

The Third Conquest. Spain got Nishapur, but I got Ghazni and Samarqand. I also captured Baghdad, at which point Saladin offered Capitulation, but I pressed on to capture Jerusalem, and lost the Capitulation offer...

I began playing through the Fourth Conquest. It totally rocked. My Arabian Armies combined with fresh troops from the East, and got onto 20 waiting Transports. These landed north and south of Rome (Charlemagne). Syracuse was razed, while Rome was kept. The northern battle group headed towards Salzburg, which was kept as well. However, in both Rome and Salzburg, the number of troops to quell the chance of revolt numbered 15, mostly Machine Guns airlifted in...

Charlemagne capitulated in the year 1695 (He gave me Wonsan, a Korean City captured by the Mongolians, then the Holy Romans, then given by me back to the Koreans).

My next target was France. I sent a few Tanks north to Danzig (on the Russian Border, a French-Barbarian City), while the rest of the Northern Troops stayed in Syracuse, next to the Parisian cultural border. Similarly, in the south, the Southern Troops stayed in Rome near Marseille's border. Transports with Tanks and Artillery awaited the declaration. In 1700, Louis XIV's borders were overrun with crack Khmer troops, which quickly captured and razed Marseilles, Danzig, and a western French city. Paris was kept, and Louis XIV was left with Sarkel, another former Barbarian city surrounded by Russia and the Black Sea, near the Caucauses.

Louis XIV capitulated in the year 1710.

The troops regrouped once more, cargo planes sent in fresh contingents of Urban Police/Machine Gunners, and all was quiet (for now) on the Western Front. As the Transports moved through Spanish waters, an announcement from the King stated that they were no longer welcome in English Waters. The English Campaign would have to wait until the 'Spanish Inquisition' was complete..

The Spanish, led by the fanatical Queen Isabella, launched a crusade to expand their borders as soon as King Louis XIV fled Versailles for the furs and plains of Sarkel. Soon, Spanish Workers accompanied by Grenade and Musket Divisions expanded roads into what was France. Little did they know the horrors to come. In the year 1715, troops from the Southern Offensives and fresh troops from Jerusalem converged north of Rome. The Inquisition of Spain would rely only on these veterans and their new comrades; the Northern Regiments were preparing for war in England. Finally, one month after the Khmer Empire's young men were reunited, war was declared. Last ditch Tank reinforcements from Paris moved south, preparing to cross the Pyrenees. At the Pyrenee Passes, nudged against the coast of the Mediterranean, the Southern Regiments marched into a small coastal town of [insert Spanish City Name here]. As Artillery destroyed the town Citadel and Walls, Infantry swarmed the city and set arson to the main city buildings; within a day, the city was burned, the ground sewn with salt, the civilians fleeing to Santiago. New achievements in North Khmer, close to the Mongolian border, had created a Laser. This was implemented for the war effort, as Parisian and Roman engineers combined Tanks and Artillery to form 50 Mobile Artillery. In 1735, Cordoba was razed, using the same methods as those of its northern, coastal counterpart. Finally, in 1740, 25 long years after the Inquisition first began, the Southern Regiments rallied at Santiago. The Mobile Artillery worked perfectly, the Spanish Longbows, Grenadiers, Riflemen, and other such archaic technologies being destroyed by the Infantry Divisions. However, one Spanish Galleon escaped the blockades and carnage. Word reached Hanoi of the city of Madrid, founded on the North Atlantic coast of South America.

Isabella capitulated to the Khmer Empire in the year 1745.
The Actual Battle Strategy:
Spoiler :
Okay. Basically, I used overwhelming Artillery force to overcome the new limits on Siege. I bombarded each city first, then used the remaining Artillery to cause collateral damage (all Artillery had Barrage I/II). All survived but two, lost in the Battle of Syracuse. This generated XP for the Siege to enter Barrage III. Infantry mopped up. In battles where Infantry were far away, Tanks acted as multiple, with City Raider I/II, then Barrage I/II. Their Blitz promotions took Danzig for me. I dotmapped the European continent, selecting only a few cities for capture and the rest for razing and replacement. Thus, French cities were burned except for Paris, and all the Holy Roman cities were kept except for Syracuse.

Settlers from the crowded Indonesian Archipelago had jumped at the chance to emigrate to the newly conquered lands. The Iberian Peninsula, with its Pastures, small Towns, Roads, Farms, and Rivers was the perfect land for a new city. In the year 1750, the town of New Spain was christened, built on the northern banks of the River Cordoba, opposite the ruins of the city with the same name. Spanish workers and civilians began putting up shop in the city, bringing elements of their culture with them. A mix of Arabian and Hispanic architecture and art soon brought new life to the burgeoning town. A Levee was built, and a new Factory provided thousands of jobs. Even with all the technological marvels the Khmer had brought, however, many ethnic Spanish grumbled at the thought of being forced to fight against their Christian brethren for the sake of their lord and master Suryavarman II. Even though the city was flooded with Spanish troops, ranging from veterans of the Inquisition to the new Mobile Artillery from the Chinese Provinces, riots soon broke out. What was once the most profitable and productive city in Europe had, in two months, become a shamble of its former self. Even worse, the riots threatened to spill out to the newly conquered lands of Rome and Salzburg. If they did, the progress of the future offensives would be slowed, giving their enemies the chance to improve their technology. If the puppet kingdoms of Holy Rome, Spain, and France traded the secrets of Replaceable Parts to Khmer enemies, all could be lost...

Spoiler :
Well, it was inevitable I guess. Even with 7 Machine Guns, 2 Mobile Artillery, and a few Infantry in each city, Salzburg, New Spain, and Rome still had 1-5% chances of revolting. The heathen Christian RNG gods must have listened to their workshipper's prayers~ all of them broke out into Anarchy in 1750. If these riots aren't put down, then the odds of England, Byzantium, and Russia getting Rifling, or even Communism increase...

It took half a decade of urban fighting on a scale never before seen to put down the European Revolts. The flags of the old Spanish monarchs were burned unceremoniously by soldiers; the Insurrectionists hunted down one by one, due to tips from loyal citizens. Slowly, but surely, the western Khmer Empire had calmed down. It seemed to a normal citizen that the same 'yellow' soldiers patrolled the streets of Paris and New Spain, but the roles had been changed. As Khmer culture slowly permeated the cities, the citizens slowly accepted the changes and wonderful new technology the Empire had brought. Due to these events, the troop levels were reduced and the weary soldiers sent back to the Homeland for some good rest. However, not all was peaceful. New plans in light of the Revolts had been drawn up. The Emperor Suryavarman II, God-King of the Khmer, and Glorious Leader of the People had been informed by his generals that the Byzantine Justinian I had supported the Insurrectionists with food and weapons. It was time to show the Byzantines that the Empire was the only one allowed to exist. Soldiers who had made families and had children were now moving towards the East. The countryside rang with the wails of wives and daughters and mothers. Farms were left empty. It was time...for war.

Spoiler :
Played through the rest. Stupid Gooblah didn't take screenies of the revolts, but I'm certain it was a Byzantine Spy that cause the revolts. Holy Rome is too weak, and Russia is a tad far away. I didn't see an Englishs ship, though I may have missed it. In any case, Justinian must die! He wil be facing troops holed up in Jerusalem (there are at least 50 Infantry and 20 Mobile Artillery), as well as those on the Continent.

It was on February 5th, 1760 that the Monarch of Byzantium, Justinian I was duly recieved at the court of the Empire in Angkor Thom. The great temples of Angkor Wat were flooded with the saffron robes of Buddhist monks, preparing for a meditation ceremony on a scale never before seen in order to show the grandeur of the Khmer to the visiting ruler.

It was a sight to be seen as the Byzantine Royal Guard and their liege slowly made their way across the Empire in the weeks prior to the event. Thousands of peasants had stopped their work in order to gaze at this extravagant, albeit archaic, procession. 10 Cataphracts preceded the Royal Carriage, carried by a dozen men. One could barely catch a glimpse of a pale, soft hand clutching a glass of wine. Two Elephants, decorated in the silvers, yellows, and purples of Byzantium followed their King, accompanied by dozens of men marching in formation, with Pikes, Maces, and Longbows in hand. It was a way for the Byzantines to show their resistance in the face of a crumbling European Christendom.

As the royal parade entered Angkor Thom, thousands of citizens flocked to the gates to witness their leader meet that of the Byzantines. Two trumpets blared as the procession came to a halt. A man wearing the sword and cross of the Byzantine coat of arms pulled out a scroll.

"All hail the great and mighty King of Christians, Liege of Constantinople and Byzantium, Conqueror of Europe, and Leader of the Byzantine Empire, JUSTINIAN I!!"

A great cheer swept out amongst the soldiers, but the crowd remained still. As their Emperor slowly descended the stone steps of the ancient temple, a collective breath was held. Finally, the Wise One himself raised a hand. At once poured an outbreak of noise. The horses and elephants nearly panicked, but their holders kept them still. Cheers rang out as the Buddhist monks of Angkor Wat began their meditation, undisturbed by everything. The two great leaders shook hands, and made their way inside the sprawling palace. The crowds slowly receded as the horses and elephants were led to their stables.

One month after their ruler had left the confines of their Empire, the people of Constantinople gathered outside the Palace walls to hear their King speak. It was said the conferences in Angkor Thom had gone well. Silence suddenly took the air. Merchants stopped shouting, animals halted their cries; even babies stopped wailing; all as the King made his way to the gates.

"My people! There shall be peace in our time!"

hmmm... have you ever thought of making a full story of this or another game? you would definitely get alot of views. Idk what it is but i just get drawn into your story :D

Thanks, you guys...

Sadly, I think I've gotten to the point where playing the game is less interesting then the story, but whatever.

I couldn't help but add ol' Neville Chamberlain's quote in there. It seemed right in a way. I'll update soon.

Ah, but that's a good sign! A storey should always be interesting to the reader AND writer!

Can't wait for the update!

It was two short months after the Angkor Conference that the daily maintenance checks of soldiers in Jerusalem and Paris were stepped up. Thousands of soldiers, with Tanks and Mobile Artillery, now occupied the two cities, and all were on full alert. Checkpoints at the borders of the Empire had doubled their guard, while Jet Fighters flew daily reconnaissance over Asia Minor and Greece. One could only imagine the fear in the hearts of those in the cities of Attalia and Trebizond, the largest cities in the Byzantine Empire closest to the border posts flying the flag of the Khmer Empire. The scream of jet engines must have seemed incomprehensible to a society whose most advanced weaponry was the ineffective and inefficient musket. While the First, Second, and Fifth Armored Divisions of the Khmer Army were running war games, the Khmer Third Fleet was practicing battle strategy in the Mediterranean, much to the chagrin of the Arabian Empire. As the daily drills went on, and the simulations of battle continued, tensions around the world were increasing. Whether or not the Emperor liked it, most of the other nations around the world despised the Khmer. Ragnar and his Vikings, the English, the Russians, the Byzantines, the Arabians, all were Furious with the Khmer due to their warring and constant refusal of Christianity and pleas for technology or gold. It was certain that the remaining nations would begin to sign pacts with one another in order to prevent all out war.

On a foggy morning in April, Byzantine farmers woke up to see Tanks rolling into the dirt roads of their nation. War had been declared. As thousands of Khmer Infantry Divisions slowly marched across the wineyards and hills south of Trebizond, the Royal Guard sent two Musket units to ambush the battle group. These were destroyed in quick succession. Any survivors were hunted down and killed individually. For the next three weeks, bombs dropped every other day on the walls of Trebizond and Attalia. Slowly, the massive fortresses crumbled. With each passing day, the citizens of the Byzantine Empire set out in makeshift boats and rafts for the Russian shores. The French Navy, obligated to attack these refugees, pretended to have no knowledge of these events.

True battle finally came on May 19th, 1755. The First Armored Division, accompanied by the Second and Third Artillery Divisions rumbled off towards Constantinople, while the rest of the troops settled in the hills between the two Byzantine cities. At sunset, crack Infantry Divisions stormed the broken walls of Attalia, catching the Longbowmen defending the city unawares. In one day, the city fell. Every man, woman, and child was captured and forced into cramped boats, to be sent to the Australian continent, the new Khmer penal colony. There, they would settle planned cities on the northern coast. Trebizond, on the other hand, survived. Most of the civilians were evacuated to Russia before the Khmer arrived. All those they found had either a Musket or a Crossbow. The entire Trebizond Guard was routed, and in the three days of heavy fighting, only one Khmer soldier had died, having accidentally triggered a grenade on his belt.

The Apostolic Palace had been convened shortly after the Khmer offensive began. The leaders of the Christian nations, Suryavarman II, Saladin of Arabia and Mansa Musa of Mali had settled into their luxurious chairs, each covered in soft furs and leathers, and gold leafing covering the finely crafted iron base. Peter the Great of Russia, Ragnar, the leader of the strongest Viking Clan, and Elizabeth of England were on one side, glaring at the Khmer Empire with thinkly veiled hatred. On the other side were the Emperor and his Vassals, Charlemagne of the Holy Romans, Louis XIV of France, and Isabella of Spain. Finally, in a 'corner' of the circular room, Saladin and his Vassal, Mansa Musa.

The Emperor stood.

"I have convened this, the twenty-first Apostolic Council, to determine the fate of the Byzantine Empire. It has provoked a war with the Khmer to attempt to gain the lands surrounding Jerusalem-"

"Which were stolen from me, you two-faced bastard!" Saladin had stood up, his pointed crown glistening in the light from the windows. "I daresay it is time you were brought down from power! In the span of 50 years, your nation has conquered India, parts of my Empire, and most of Europe! Is that not enough living space for your people? Must you continue to claim 'atrocities' and the 'welfare of the conquered people' as your motives? It is my opinion, and that of every leader in this room, that you are an aggressive leader hellbent on destroying all other empires that span this earth! I may not believe that Christ was the last and true Messiah and Prophet, but may I be struck by heaven and God himself if what I say is not true!"

"Silence!" The Emperor held out a hand, palm open and finger stretched. Saladin simply glared. "It is time the other leaders in this world learned their place. The teachings of this Christ, this abomination! yes, abomination," The European leaders simply stared at him in disbelief. Peter and Ragnar's hands gripped their swords so tightly that their hands were white. "have brought nothing but pain and misery to your people and those of Arabia! The Crusades that your Pope declared ended up killing thousands for a 'Holy Land'! If God existed, would he condone such suffering? I think not! I have liberated the people of India, Arabia, Holy Rome, France, and Spain from fanatic monarchs bent on ruthlessly killing their people to achieve what they wish! I have brought the atheism and simply philosophy of acceptance in the form of the Buddha to these lands!"

The independent European leaders stood as one. They walked out of the room, each gripping a weapon. Finally, just as she was exiting, Elizabeth turned around.

"God damn your soul to hell, Suryavarman. Let it be known on this day, that the world was condemned by heaven itself."

What sucks is that I don't even have control of the Apostolic Palace. I think Peter controls it. I wanted to show Suryavarman the Evil Bastard II as well as the probable European sentiment.

I checked the Foreign Advisor. Every single nation except for Aztec, Inca, Korea, Japan, and Mali is either Annoyed or Furious with me.

i applaud you! lol i expected Suryavarman to pull out 2 guns and shoot them up :D

btw WOOHOO this is my 100TH POST !!! :)
