Wrong. Attack a turn later, suicide one more/less cat, attack in a different order; all these things change the roll that determines whether an attack is successful.

I know you can do that but that's not what I meant.

But I don't see why you'd put the random seed thing on unless you planned on reloading over and over to win every fight. To me that's no fun.

I reload when I send a guy the wrong orders or when a game is a lost cause and I want to rig a comeback win just for fun.

Also I swear to GOD that there is a hidden roll that says 'if you risk an attack with a medic unit your odds are halved'. I just know it!

No, I just never risk it seeing as my more powerfull units are usually only 2 turns away. (I.E. ,when playing as Romans in early game, Praetorian stacks of death!!!)

There's also one that says an unprotected settler has a 50% higher chance of being attacked then an unprotected worker when outside your territory, and another one that says a 50% chance of victory is really a 25% chance, and a 70% chance of victory is really a 50% chance, and a 99.9 percent chance... etc. There are ALOT of these.
 
I never lose settlers to barbs, as I just wait until panthers/wolves are gone. They're horrible if you want to get your settler somewhere safely.

For some reason whenever I try this some other civ seems to take the spot I wanted. as a solution I escort my settlers with archers. It's slower but necessary when their are barbs around. The animals haven't really given me much trouble though.
 
If you use fogbusting warriors / scouts, you can settle very quickly. You can make sure that those tile near the settler are barbfree. Panthers and wolves however have 2MP and could create trouble. I infact meant it as a joke as you very rarely start your settler before barb warriors and archers show up.
