[BtS] DIPLOMACY: a mod for Diplogames!

guess I'll have to update as well ;) stupid me :p where can I download this patch?

just installed the patch and I'm going to try diplomacy out right now!
I'll tell you in a few days if it's good or not but it already looks very good :D

Oh, I almost forgot.

Brian Boru and Mick Collins should be the leaders for Ireland.

For Poland, you can't go wrong with John III Sobieski, Casimir, and Lech Walesa.

Oh don't worry, I definitely got the Irish leaders down already. But like I said I am trying to stick to two leaders per civ, so for Poland I'll probably do Casimir and Walesa. To cover more ground era-wise.

So I have the image for the UB, and I have a name for it now (thanks to Tsentom1) but I don't know what building it should replace and what benefits I should give it? Any ideas?

Pakistan in Civ Gold has a similar building. I don't remember what it does but I can't check right now because I'm updating my game.

Hmm, in civ gold it replaces a library. I don't know if I like that for this building. I was considering theatre, and I'd give a specialist with it or something, or extra health maybe. Any ideas?

the mod works now and it's fun :) thans for your help :)
you know I feel really stupid about that patch :p I feel like a little noob right now :p

Glad to hear it!

Hopefully it works for Madman as well, because he's been such a major help to me on these latest modules.

Speaking of which, Ekmek has finished the reanimated Bolivar and it looks great, so as soon as Bernie gets the Brazilian units finished (hopefully soon) I'll be able to release it. I basically have Iran finished, I just have to playtest it and after that I just have to make the Songhai (which should be much easier than Iran, which was a little difficult due to some unit reskins I did) and Module Pack II will be ready as well. If all things go like I want them to, hopefully I can get them both finished by the begining of next week.

In the meantime, to those of you who haven't tried them yet, I suggest you try out some of the civs I made in the first module pack (check my signature), I am going to update St. Stephan in that one, but they work really well and its a good indication of how my other modules will be.

Thanks for all of your suggestions.

By the way, any ideas on the Iranian UB (Golestan, its a public garden basically)?

Works for me.

Persian gardens were made for people to get some peace of mind... the idea was that looked sort of like Eden. So there's gotta be happiness involved.

Hey, The Capo, this looks like fantastic work. Just so you know, now I have some time off I'm going to be looking into fixing up my Civics mod, so please feel free to add it when it's done, because I think it spices up the earlier game by helping to differentiate civs a bit more (so-as an example-you can have some civs who have switched to a cash economy, whilst others are still operating on a barter system). Anyway, just a heads-up.

Aussie (aka Marcus).

Thanks Aussie Lurker, I'll consider it. But I must tell you this mod was/is made for the Diplogaming community over at Apolyton (which I am quite sure you are familiar with) so while I personally like it, it may take some convincing to get them to agree with it. Although I am making an expanded version of the mod and I think I'd like to add your civics to it.

Anyway, on the UB issue. I think I am going to change the name from Golestan, which appears to be a name of an Iranian province and poem, to Paridaida because of this...

From the time of the Achaemenid dynasty the idea of an earthly paradise spread through Persian literature and example to other cultures, both the [[Hellenistic gardens of the Seleucids and the Ptolemies in Alexandria. The Avestan word pairidaêza-, Old Persian *paridaida-, Median *paridaiza- (walled-around, i.e., a walled garden), was transliterated into Greek paradeisoi, then rendered into the Latin paradisus, and from there entered into European languages, e.g., French paradis, German Paradies, and English paradise.

So I think Paridaida would probably be a better word for it. And I still don't know what stats to give it. I think I am going to add +1:health:, and I might add something else, I'm not sure yet. I am just trouble-shooting the graphics at this point. And I REALLY REALLY REALLY want some Aussie flavored units... too bad nobody has offered to make them or tell me an easy way to throw some slouch hats and pith helmets on existing units. If ANYONE knows how to do this I will be endebted to you, I will make ANY module you want for my mod... any module, no matter how ridiculous, with just as much love and care as the rest of them. I'll even make a new LH for it if need be.

EDIT: Madman, does the mod work now?

Here is my Iranian unit preview. I have circled two "problem units," the grenadier and cannon, which kind of look hunched and awkward. HOPEFULLY I will be able to fix this, but if I can't I'll just use a generic middle eastern unit, although I'd rather use the flavored Iranian units I threw together.

The "marine" unit is the Iranian UU, the Pasadran (sp?) which is basically the elite Iranian force. Its like an American Navy SEAL but instead of Amphibious it starts with Ambush. I hope you guys like it, and now more than ever suggestions are appreciated. I still have to resize the UB, but everything else looks great.

Hey madman, would you mind making me one more button?

I need it for the Songhai Empire, which is the last module I have to finish in module pack II (before the final editing that is). I have attached the file and here are the colors I need, in parentheses I put the GIMP numbers...

FLAG COLOR
R - 1.00 (255)
G - 0.98 (250)
B - 0.80 (204)

SYMBOL COLOR
R - 0.45 (116)
G - 0.24 (62)
B - 0.07 (18)

The only things I have left to do for Module Pack II are a few game texts (that shouldn't be hard, its just the LAST thing I care about), fix the Iranian Cannon and Grenadier (I'll probably just use existing units and reskin them), figure out what stats to give the Iranian UB, figure out which Aussie flavored units to use. But I'm basically finished with it now.

I know you have been waiting particularly patiently for the Americas pack to be finished (as am I actually) but I just have to get the final units from Bernie and its ready to roll. I would love to get together and get a game going with this mod (and some of my modules), I think it would be really fun and would be a great reward for the work and patience that has gone into these modules.

Thanks again.

Here's the Songhai button. I also added a new button for Israel and the Iroquois, and I also added the Iroquois flag from Colonization.

When you're done playing, let me know. I have an idea for another module.

I assume this means you got the mod to work now? Otherwise how would you know what Israel's button looked like before?

You can go ahead and tell me the module ideas, but I'd RATHER not ge ahead of myself and focus on getting the current plans fixed. I need a name for the Minoan "Hypaspist" and traits for Irans UB and Songhai's UB. Which is a Masjid (replaces University). I also need a name for the Songhai UU (replaces Knight). For now I have Seowon and the Cataphract as placeholders for the mali, and I just used the regular theatre stats as a placeholder for the Golestan (Paradaida).

What are you using for the Argentine UB (and do you have good art)?

I'm thinking about adding Argentina to my mod and looking for something different than the civ gold Argentina UB.

I used the South American City Center building from one of those Axis&Allies Buildnig Packs (or are they Empire Earth building packs?). I agree, some of the Civ Gold buildings look a little cheesey, so I tried to avoid using them whenever possible. No offense to those guys or anything, but when you have that many civs in a game sometimes quality takes a back seat in certain areas.

I don't know what to name that Songhay knight... I have absolutely no idea.
