Game crashes when trying to load a saved game

Hi guys, just wondering if anyone could help me.

I'm using win8 x64, and I am able to install the game and also start playing just fine after applying the v1.1 and then the latest TOTPP version (v0.10).

But whenever I try to load a save game I get a crash to desktop without any error messages. This is the same whether it's from the main menu, or from the toolbar or using the shortcut ctrl+L.
It's as though as soon as it tries to access windows explorer it crashes, which is odd because it has no problems saving the games.

Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Okay, so I've just done something which has seemingly fixed it, posting for anyone else with a similar issue.

I had the game running in compatibility mode for Windows 98/me because I figured that's when the game came out and thought that it would be necessary for the game to run correctly.

When I changed it so that it wasn't running in compatibility mode everything worked correctly. I also found that it worked correctly for compatibility modes running as XP SP2 onwards.
