Creating new unit...where do I find the extra files?

I've downloaded some great "NEW" units but when I download them I only get the new "RE-Colored" skin. I've look at some new civ empireds mods with their own unique unit and in the unit folder they have files like "cannon.kfm" "cannonball_md_xfadeout.kf"

are those custom files or can you get them from the Civ 4 folders?
