Little question.

There is no positive or negative diplo modifier, if that is what you are asking.

Trading just allows you to obtain Great Works (or artifacts) to satisfy a theming bonus in a particular building or wonder. Let's say one of your buildings or wonders says you need two Works of Art from different civs and different Eras to satisfy that building or wonder's theming bonus. If, in that case, you had a couple of Renaissance Works of Art from your civ, you could trade one for a Polish Medieval Work of Art and another for an Arabian Renaissance Work of Art. And then you would satisfy your theming bonus.

Hmm I have never seen this bonuses. But i will look again.

When you are in the culture screen, where you can see your various Great Work buildings and open slots, you will see that each building or wonder that has two or more Great Work slots will have a +0 next to it. If you mouse hover the +0, the tooltip tells you what combination of Great Works is required to get the theming bonus. One building might say you need two works of art from the same civ and same era to generate a +2 theming bonus (that is, +2 culture and +2 tourism beyond what the Great Works themselves will provide), while another might say works from different civs and different eras are required to earn that bonus. France's UA gives them double theming bonuses in their capital, which can be huge for both culture and tourism.

Once you know what you need for a given wonder or building, you can inventory what you already have. In many cases, all you need to do is move some works around to achieve some theming bonuses, while in other cases you will need to trade with other civs to get what you need.

Keep in mind that works of art and artifacts can go in the same slots, but are treated separately for theming bonuses. So, a museum will allow you to put both in those slots, but one Classical Era Greek artifact and a Medieval Era German Work of Art will not satisfy a "different civ/different eras" theming bonus, while a Classical Era Greek artifact and an Ancient Era Babylonian artifact would.

Once you've experimented with this a bit, it becomes quite easy to understand and manage.
