DLL - Various Mod Comps + Civ IV Diplo + CSD mods

I'm amazed that you believe this.

The instructions below were, and are, valid. I tested them myself before giving them to you. We can lead the horse to water, but we cannot make it drink.

Just add this to any active XML file in the CP:

Quote:
<GreatPersons>
<Row>
<Type>GREATPERSON_DIPLOMAT</Type>
<Class>UNITCLASS_GREAT_DIPLOMAT</Class>
<Specialist>SPECIALIST_CIVIL_SERVANT</Specialist>
</Row>

azebo, Whoward, and every other unnamed modder have put in their sweat & blood & tears in to create these wonderful works for free.

...and I was kind enough to take my time to post clear instructions regarding the necessary repair for the benefit of others, so that the work of the aforementioned might actually be enjoyed. Thus, saving the day!

You're welcome! :)

I find it astonishing as all that certain character types, while adept at creating and coding, are not so gifted when it comes to communication and teaching.

I remain, as I said, "amazed" by this.

Of course your instructions are valid! To a programmer!

Do I know what "any active XML fle is?" Does my father know what that is? Of course not. I hadn't a clue how to do what you told me. You hadn't a clue how I could possibly fail to understand.

This is why programmers never write help files or software tutorials; you assume too much specialist knowledge on the part of your audience.

Lucky that I have SOME experience in this area. My Dad could never hope to make sense out of what you told us. As it was, I found a specific XML file that had a table in it matching the one you provided and I added the code to the bottom of that specific table. That worked.

Would the code you gave me work in any other XML file? I don't know. You seem to imply that it would. But I tried adding it to two others and it didn't work. Of course, I don't write XML so maybe I added it in a way that was wrong. Again. I don't know, because I don't have the requisite knowledge your instructions assume I must possess.

This is actually the same pattern I observe throughout much of this MOD work. Oversights and ellipses, lacunae and and gaps in documenting how to implement the Mods. In many cases, five minutes extra time spent writing CLEAR instructions would save users many headaches and many many false "bug" reports. When your users fail to understand, it is never their fault.

I myself originally implemented an earlier version of the Community Patch incorrectly and was experiencing bugs I spent days trying to eliminate. The same bugs were being reported by other users but the programmers couldn't duplicate them -- because, unlike we who were having problems, the programmers had the patch correctly installed.

Most software problems occur at the human interface.

So if I add this to say the Dip-City States (v4) XML it will solve the problem of spamming Great Diplomats. Thank you for your response. :)

Hello,

i have a question
would it be possible to add the modifications of Jdh's Active AI in MP to the DLL ?
Or anyone could help me merge both DLL's?

I'm playing with friends with mods (using JDH MP Mod Manager till now, just discovered MPMPM and succesfully made a Modpack know using the WHoward DLL and few mods of it) but we are missing the active AI in MP :)

Can I activate both CSD and Civ 4 Diplomacy mods at the same time with WHoward's DLL or just one of them? I tried both (deleted both DLL's) together and it's buggy, am I doing something wrong?

if i use the civIV diplomacy mod every single technology is available to trade in the trade window from the beginning?

Question for whoward and co.

Have you guys ever fiddled with cities in the dll. Specifically adding different kinds of cities, e.g., a "hamlet" kind of city with limited capacity for building Buildings, cannot build units, has population cap, and no radius (i.e., only takes up its own tile)?

I'm just curious to know how much you pushed the system's boundaries.

Whoward , thanks for these mods , installed them all last night and the game feels a lot better !
AI now rly arent fking around ! Just about fended off a Zulu attack and then when i pushed on their city , they actually used units much better than previously !
Yet to use much of the Civ IV diplomacy yet , but cant wait to get into it tonight !

Is anybody still using this combination mod with CSD v24, or have all the CSD players moved over to the Community Patch?

We may have fixed the CivIV Diplo portion of the combined mod (no more crazy tech trading from the start) - see post #346 in the original CvIV Diplo thread - could do with a couple more test cycles from other people though

First, I'd like to thank you for this awesome mod. Literally brought life back to this game.

Any who, I've had some issues with AIs offering ridiculous trade offers (which they immediately decline as I accept them); It happens almost 50% if not more of the time during AI engaged trades. Example: AI: 3 Luxuries for my 1 Luxury; Obviously they don't accept. Not a big deal but thought I should mention it.

In addition, when I force capitulation upon another Civilization , they don't give into my demands nor do offer reasonable trades and appear guarded for a good amount of turns.

I use R.E.D. Modpack, Infoaddict and faster aircrafts in addition to Various MOD +Civ IV diplo, game doesn't crash often and runs fairly stable.

Thanks again for the support.

Hey, WHoward. I've been trying to use this combined DLL to get both of these mods working together, but I must be doing something wrong because the game will crash whenever I quit either to the main menu or to the desktop, and will sometimes crash during gameplay (although not often). The features of the CSD mod appear to be functioning fine, but the features of the Civ 4 Diplomacy mod are completely out of whack, with many repeated options being displayed when communicating with other civs initially and all options disappearing in all subsequent interactions. I tried to attach the CvMiniDump.dmp file like the first post asks, but I got a prompt saying it was an invalid file. Any help I could get would be much appreciated.

Same problems as MalevolentMiles, narrowed down to just Civ4Diplo and Various DLL installed (and I'm sure it's not the latter), unable to attach the dmp file.

That's not a bug, the AI is just trolling you.

You can't use both CSD and C4D together. Try the community patch mod for that

If you use EUI, the technologies the AI offers/wants to get are not displayed (and maybe also with some other mod combinations)
So in this special case, the AI want in addition to the things you can see, a technology (you can figure this out by just reading their message "... i want to buy a technolgy...")

I want to fix this, but don't know how:

I really want to try this mod over lan, but I can't select it in jdh's MP mod manager. Is it possible at all to use it in multiplayer?

Whoward, are you done with modding the DLL for this game or are you up for any requests? I have built a large section of my mod around the great features of your DLL but there were a couple of things I was wondering if you could add, that would probably have to be done at the DLL level.

I simply enable "DLL - Various Mod Components" and the game crashes. Even when no other mods are enabled. And I haven't really used any mod that might conflict with it. The only ones I used before were Really Advanced Setup and Separate Great People. Still crashes even with those removed.
