Installing Civ 4 on Windows Vista / 7 / 8 / 8.1 / 10 / 11 (32-/64-bit)

Aye. When I change the folder of installation to a new folder, the error pops up halfway through the installation.

I don't understand why.

Can you try just simply copying the contents of the CD to a folder on the drive e.g. C:\TEMP\CD to see that it can successfully read every file.

How do I do that? And I noticed something today. Inexplicably, none of my other games will work because I'm somehow missing an MSS32.DLL. I didn't do anything.

Well, I fixed the missing driver issue, but Civ still doesn't work.

Hi Kiwi

I have followed your instructions but unfortunately I still cannot play Civ IV or BtS, even when playing "as administrator".

My error message is:

Problem signature:

Can anyone help me understand this error message? I tried to google parts of it but no success.

Any help is much appreciated. I bought a brand new computer, super powerful, with Windows 7 and a massive screen to be able to fully enjoy Civ and it has been really frustrating.

Thanks!

"Fault Module Version: 3.1.7.0" should this not be 3.1.9.0

kiwitt, I have an acer windows 7 laptop, and i can't install my civ 4 bts. it gets to the part of language selections and than goes to the install wizard, but just freezes in the middle of that part. do you have a solution?

Are you right-clicking and running as administrator ?

never mind, I ran it as administrator but the same thing happens. do you have any other solutions?

You'll need to check your windows logs in applications.

That is what I thought but I religiously followed your instructions and the version installed is definitely is 3.1.9.0. Now how strange is that? Any advice?

I cannot believe I cannot play Civ4 on my brand new super powerful mega screened windows 7 desktop :/

How might I do that?

Select all the files in the CD including folders and then right-click copy to and then paste to C:\TEMP

May need to update your DX9 files.

Try installing this

EDIT: I have added this to the main instructions in preparation

I have un-installed everything and re-installed according to your revised guidelines. I still cannot play the game and the error message is the same:

Any advice kiwitt?

Thank you =)

"Exception Code: c0000005" seems to effect a lot of different programs as well.

Have you tried compatibility mode ?

Points at a problem with the firmware of the DVD drive.

Select all the files in the CD including folders and then right-click copy to and then paste to C:\TEMP
It couldn't completely move the files to the C:/TEMP. It stopped trying when there were 35 seconds left.
