But helium is less dense than air, so assuming the barrel wasn't vaccuum sealed, filling it with helium would lower the mass, and therefore the weight.

If the barrel were empty, then it would raise the mass, albeit by less than 1 gramme (assuming a barrel is less than 24dm)

Sam sells bibles in the MIddle East. One day, he loaded hi canoe full of bibles and paddled off down the solitary river which meanders its way through the barren sand.

Sam's customary business practice consists of stacking the bibles on one side of a huge set of balance scales and the nomads piling gold on the other. When the scales balance, the transaction is complete.

One day, Sam met a nomadic group at the edge of the river and began doing business. Unfortunately for Sam, the scales broke. Since there was nothing around but sand, Sam couldn't think of a fair way to weigh the bibles. He was just getting into his canoe to paddle off, when someone had a brilliant idea. What was the idea that would allow them to accurately weigh and exchange the bibles for gold?

all wrong.

Yuppers....

A farmer in California owns a beautiful pear tree. He supplies the fruit to a nearby grocery store. The store owner has called the farmer to see how much fruit is available for him to purchase. The farmer knows that the main truck has 24 branches. Each branch has exactly 12 boughs and each bough has exactly 6 twigs. Since each twig bears one piece of fruit, how many plums will the farmer be able to deliver?

Oh ... hmm, not sure. Maybe someone else will get it. (Btw, you get mine).
