Well that didn't make any sense. Still had the idea that it was a Tripe replacement in my head. Power of suggestion.

So I suppose I misinterpreted the Zeros strength. But the fact that it replaces fighter is even worse. It's bad enough to wait for bombers/B17 but at least they're a balling unit. Waiting that long for a marginal unit is awful. Probably the most useful part is the no oil, but you'll need oil for your triplanes, and around the point that radar comes in you're switching to aluminum anyway.
