Against All Odds: The Struggles of the Noyyau

Both Noyyau ships sent to explore the seas to the west reached an obstacle, in the form of the single-city Apache Free Republic. The Apaches, for some reason, utterly refused to have anything to do with the Noyyau.
Should we declare war on the Apache and keep going west, or should we turn back to our own seas?

Meanwhile, shipbuilding techniques rapidly improved, and King Reinhard personally named the first Caravel, a vessel that, it was claimed, could sail beyond the horizon.
Two more such vessels shall soon be completed in Robertia, and another one in Tehran.

The words of the Kami Yata, originally dismissed as excessively pessimistic, became tragically prophetic when, all of a sudden, the Noyyau became victims of the worst betrayal of their entire history.

The Horse Archers found themselves suddenly surrounded, and barely managed to escape.

The first Pict invasion occurred in former Malagasy territory, where they captured some slaves that were improving the local roads.

Or should we rather crush the Picts, see them driven before us, and hear the lamentations of their women?
 
House von Caterpillar wants the Picts crushed and our land rightfully taken.

Wilhelm Friedrich von Caterpillar I has taken hold of the house after Felix II's peaceful death. He calls out to his cousin, King Reinhard, and asks that he attend Felix's funeral, as the deal between noble King John and Felix Wilhelm von Caterpillar II was the reason Reinhard rules the great Noyyau Kingdom today.

As well, I wish to serve our king in the war with the pics.
 
The House of Giacola advises a defensive war. Drive them off of our land then sue for peace. If they will not make peace then inflict more casualties but the Noyyau have taken all the land we can keep a hold of for now.
 
The spirits are wise! There was a great disturbance coming from the western winds.


Kami Yata agrees in part with House Giacola in the defensive war strategy. Together with a defensive war in our borders, we should use spies and espionage to disrupt the Picts.

Our espionage on them is so effective that we may get reports on each of their cities. I propose that we secure the northern sea and wait for the moment to strike the northern lands of the picts. If we conquer some cities there, I'm sure this will destabilize their empire, but more importantly, we will be able to give independence to the malinese and maybe even to the bulgarians. This will surely weaken the Picts a lot, and if we snatch these reborn civs as vassals, the picts will have to think twice before entering on a new war against us.

Of course all of this can be ignored if Noyyau's tactics make this an easy war. If they only come to die, then let them come, and let them die ;)

We should also reforge peaceful relations with the moroccans


Kami Yata advises caution towards the Apache. Check their alliances, and if they are allied to the enemy, or seem to be irrelevant, then declare war. If they are against the picts, we shouldn't do this.


About the ships, Kami Yata would like to name one ship Susanoo, and also that at least 2 ships are assigned to explore both east and west, at least one for each direction. Tales have come about the appearance of Yamata no Orochi both in east and west. As no such tales came from the hot southern lands, it becomes hard to believe that Yamata would traverse the southern tip of the continent without attracting any attention. If what some scholars have said are true, maybe the world isn't flat, but round, and this would explain how Yamata could be seen both in east and west, without being seen on the south. With the bless of the spirits, I believe our ships may explore the world and prove once and for all what's the true shape of it.

King Reinhard is saddened by the news of the passing of his esteemed uncle, and will most certainly attend the funerary cerimony, before leaving to command the troops against the Picts.

The NNS Victory shall depart from Robertia's docks as soon as all crew and provisions will be loaded.
The military unit once commanded by Lord Emmanuel Greek, still bearing his name, will certainly participate in the fighting against the Picts.

Our first priority certainly is the defense of our lands.

The Susanoo shall soon depart from the Tehran docks, and be sent to explore the eastern great sea, while all of the ships leaving Robertia will move to the west, as they cannot move east because the frozen mountains near Latvia completely separate the two oceans.

King Reinhard promises that he shall avenge the loss of so many good men and women of House Florentianus.

I'll make a map as soon as possible with the borders of the regions inside our Kingdom, I realized I never explained well enough how I consider our interior to be subdivided.
 
The House of Giacola mourns for several of their members lost during the opening blows of the war. Candles shall be lit to guide their souls home. They struggled valiantly for their House, their noble masters and their nation. They shall not be forgotten.
 
Wilhelm I thanks all for their support with the death of his father, and gives the king his most esteemed gratitude for the attendance of the funeral.
 
In response to the passing of the Felix Wilhelm von Caterpillar II, the matriarch of the House of Giacola lights a large candle for his death, and offers her condolences to his son. She is sad to his father go, for he was ever a stalwart friend of her and her House.

Sure!
Take inspiration from the other Houses to get an idea.
Basically you need to choose a name, a city which will be your House's main stronghold, and some activity that is the main purpose of your House.

We're currently at a middle-medieval era, so keep that in mind when deciding what your House does or how its members think.

It means that I am using that version of the mod (and my own personal changes).
So if you download the latest version of the mod, it will not be exactly the same, as in the meantime the devs have updated it.

The Age of Sail was opened by the Fearless Surveyor discovering a new landmass, a relatively short distance from Noyyau. The place appeared to be inhabited by xenophobic savages.

Two of the Noble Houses sponsored more exploratory vessels.
From Robertia, funded by House Greek, sailed the NNS Victory, heading west.
From Tehran, equipped thanks to the contributions of House Spirictum and many faithful Shintoists, left the Susanoo, directed to the east, with the special mission of discovering the true nature of the world: does it end somewhere, or is it round, as some visionaries suggest?

Knowing they were about to be overrun, the Archers guarding the Fort to the west of Isfahan opted to render it unusable, lest if fell under the treacherous Picts' control.

Among the old ruins of Chehalis a cache of valuables was discovered. The Treasure was put under guard and moved to an undisclosed location.

While on the road towards the border, King Reinhard was briefed on the Apaches' international standing: despite their pitiful military forces (or perhaps thanks to them), they were liked by many of the world's powerful nations, among them Pakistan, a major trade partner of the Noyyau. Therefore it was decided not to infringe upon their territory, and the Spirit of Tehran began the journey towards home, engaging Moroccan and Pict vessels on the way.

The Picts probed Fiji's defenses, only to discover that the Noyyau forces had just arrived there from Tehran.
The Pict invading army kept moving east and stopped at the gates of Shangian. The city's garrison attempted to harass the invaders, but had no means to engage them in the field.

The Fearless Surveyor took a detour from its original route to save Ringhio's fishing operations from a marauding Pict vessel.

The NNS Victory approached Cimmerian's landmass, confirming it was indeed an island. Limited surveys near the shore (to avoid engaging the locals) revealed the presence of unusual and unknown plants.

Another Caravel, sponsored by an independent group of traders, sailed northwest, sighting land directly to the west of the Latvian peninsula.

Mercenary raids against the Sand People continued, even with the Pict invasion in progress. Kassite was conquered and looted, but with significant Noyyau losses. The King ordered to stop such wasteful raids, at a time when every subject of the Kingdom should be doing their part for the defense of the nation.

While war raged on the western border, erudite discussions on the nature of the spirits, on their role in the grand scheme of things, and other such esoteric topics were the concern of the Noyyau intellectual elite.

Contrary to all Noyyau expectations, the Picts, with a prolonged forced march, left Shangian behind and approached Fiji, catching several Workers by surprise, including the descendants of the original 1st Worker Squad of ancient times.

The Paved Road Bug strikes again! (Some of you might remember it happening in my previous story.)
For some reason, it happens that enemies can use your Paved Roads as if they were in their own (or neutral) culture, suffering no movement penalties.


The NNS Victory left Cimmerian Island and sailed north, approaching what was deemed to be an outcrop of the landmass sighted by the Profit Seeker. These lands too were inhabited, by a primitive people calling themselves Venetians, that greeted the Noyyau explorers with violence, and were deemed too savage for further contact attempts.

King Reinhard declared that the Picts would pay for having massacred unarmed and defenseless Workers, and personally led the troops into the first major battle of the war.
The Pictish army was not given any respite and the resulting bloodbath, while not eliminating the threat, sent a strong message to the Picts.

The troops that fought at Fiji, however, were those that had barely managed to keep the unstable Iranian region in check.
As many expected, the sudden halving of the Iranian garrison gave enough to the local rebels to stage a new revolution.

A descendant of Bulgarian immigrants offered his services to the Crown: he promised to travel to the former Bulgarian lands and rile up the population against the Picts, in exchange for Noyyau recognition of their nation.

The Pict betrayal made the Assyrians wary of their neighbour, and changed their minds about further diplomatic relations with the Noyyau. As soon as a route will be secured to the Assyrian lands, Noyyau Kannushis and Traders shall bring faith and merchandise to the other side of the continent.

The Rather Annoyed Robertian had been in service for decades. It was so old, in fact, that a Pict Trireme ignored it, not considering the old ship as a threat. The crew, true to the name of their ship, did not wait long to catch the arrogant Picts by surprise.

Ironically, the first combat some of the recently formed House Florentianus Watches did not happen in a city, but on their way to their assigned garrison.

The Picts realized their blunder and began moving away from Fiji, sending a cadre of Swordsmen to cover their retreat and keep the Noyyau busy long enough.

The Battle of Fiji continued with endless Noyyau attacks against the retreating Pictish forces.
To further weaken enemy morale, House Greek forces sought out and defeated the Pictish Heroes of the Sword, who were considered their best champions.
After that, the Pict lines broke and the battle turned into a rout.

At the end of the battle I tried to be greedy and capture a Pict Catapult... the RNGod made me pay for my arrogance, and I lost a decently promoted Catapult of my own instead.


On the way to the front, a recently former Horse Archer Squadron intercepted some Sand People raiders threatening Fiamma's Salt Quarries.

The Assyrian Voyager, having remained near Aztec waters, reported that the Noyyau were not the only ones able to construct ocean-capable vessels. It seemed that the decision to not anger the Pakistani by declaring was on Aztechia had been wise.

1. House Florentanius would like express its sympathies for the members of the workers who were senselessly slaughtered by the Picts. Those workers' families are now brothers in loss to House Florentanius and so many others. Their deaths and the deaths of the thousands of brave men and women of Noyyau and her armed forces will be avenged.
2. Franz Florentanius has decided that Odilo Florentanius will act as the regional commander of the Watch of House Florentanius for the lands that are currently under the control of the Picts.
3. House Florentanius is currently seeking the permission of His Majesty King Reinhard to sponsor a program to devastate the war efforts of the Picts. Due to the nature of the program details will be sketchy and few.
 
The House of Giacola has enlisted some of its members who currently have no position within the bureaucracy to be spies in this war against the Picts. We have already gotten the jump in training the to speak Pictish and some customs of the culture. We simply need His majesty's permission to move them onto Pictish land.
