Team Free Embassy

BABE and FREE met on turn 98. Not sure what the implication of that is. EDIT: x-post...

The letter looks good to me, although I would prefer a shorter one. It seems team FREE consists of slow readers... in any case, I'm getting the impression that communication is becoming a one-way affair with FREE...

I would leave out the line about "not making moves on MA wonders until an agreement is met", because we will make such moves if no agreement is met ;).

ok - I agree - we'll pretended we didn't notice. In fact, that will make things look even better – as it will give our warning about meeting a BABE ship look timely! (and not like we're just making things up to scare them)

Save has been sent, so Sending now!
:salute:

EDIT: x-post with zyxy… well, ok. I'll delete that line for the sake of time. :)

Here's what was sent:
Spoiler :

Dear FREE allies,

Just a quick note keep you in the loop!

Our talks with BABE haven't gone great… they're very aggressive and clearly looking for a chance to use their Great Lighthouse advantage to find a military target… expanding their empire and sparking a golden age.
Apparently, they've made some disturbing comments to Saber about wanting to attack one of the scientific Civs to slow down the pace of advancement in this game. :scared:
If you haven't seem them yet, keep out a sharp eye for the BABE's they've got boats out all over looking to make contacts and identify their best target.

Also, just to let you know, we will be switching to Sun Tzu's Art of war for a few turns… just to prove that we DO have Feudalism in an attempt to deter BABE from attacking us.

Hope all is well in the land of FREEdom!

Got a note back from FREE.

Kind of odd… but at least we know they're reading our letters!
Dear Wise People of The Council,

We have come into contact with Team BABE following their Turn 98. They must have sighted us on their turn. We saw no boats on our shores (excepting barbarians) on Turn 97.

We have alerted our Ambassador to the Next, but he has not had time to respond. I've taken it upon myself to alert you of this important event, bypassing the normal channels of communication.

We received their letter of introduction between the two missives from you.

No telling what BABE is up to. Seems like about half of Team KISS from MTDG 1 went to BABE and the other half went to GONG.

But they are being clever. My first three posts in Team KISS (First, Second and Third) were a story and two re-versed songs from Queen (We Will Rock You and We are the Champions).

And our first contact with BABE includes a re-versed song, but I don't recognize it.

Sincerely yours,

As discussed in the Saber Embassy, this was sent to FREE,
Title: More from The Council!
Spoiler :

Dear FREE allies,

We apologize for flooding you with messages these last few days, but some more urgent business has come up!

Saber has come to us to beg for help. It seems BABE has settled on a small island off the coast of their land, and Saber is rightly worried it could be a prelude to an invasion. Saber still lacks knowledge of Map Making, and so can't send out units to claim their small islands and prevent BABE from getting an unchallenged foothold.

We'd like to help Saber get Map Making for several reasons…
  • Every city away from their own continent that BABE builds makes BABE stronger and a larger threat to our science lead, as BABE will be able to make these towns productive specialist farms.
  • All the 1-tile island towns that BABE builds will be invincible until we get Marines, so it behooves us to stop them before they can do it.
  • We'd like to encourage BABE to attack Saber, rather than either of us, and helping Saber fight BABE for control of those islands will increase tension, and maybe help push them into war
  • While we would like to see BABE and Saber fight… it's VERY bad news for both of us if BABE actually wins, and goes on to fully control two continents. Therefore, helping Saber with technology is good for both of us, as it makes it more likely that Saber will be able to survive (though crippled) a war with BABE.

Frankly, given the situation, we're about willing to give Saber Map Making for free [with your permission] but we think we can get Saber to agree to actually purchase Map Making for 100-120 gold, if you'll agree, and then we'd split that with you.

What do you say?

We know we've sent you a lot to chew on – but if you could respond to this asap we'd appreciate it!

Thanks!

Your Brothers in Bluish,
General_W, speaking with the voice of The Council

And another letter just 2.5 hours later:

Title: Map Making to SABER
Spoiler :
Dear Wise Peoples of The Council,

This will be a day long remembered.
It has seen the end of Kenobi, and will soon see the end of the rebellion
Wrong quote.

But this has been a busy day for both our peoples. And so much left to be done.

I have just gotten the game from SABER and have untl 6:16pm CDT tomorrow (Friday) to play and post the turn. I don't know of any in-game activities that need to happen this turn. Swapping maps can be done at any time.

I will play our Turn 98 this evening but not send the game to GONG until tomorrow after work. That will give us 20+ hours to discuss things.

Sincerely yours,

Art Parry
aka CommandoBob

:hmm: I don't think we want to swap maps in-game, do we?

No, we don't want to swap maps. We didn't suggest that and they didn't reply about getting Map Making to SABER. Ok, General, this one's all yours to reply to.

I'm glad he's delaying sending the save though. That will turn Wotan's attention to them. :mischief:

Another letter from FREE...
(I've got to get some work done here, so I'll have more comments later.
(But I think FREE is pretty clearly just being scatter-brained here. We have, I think, opportunity to help them focus on first things first.)
And the best news is that we got approval for our trade with Saber!

Dear friends at The Council,

We are alarmed by your news of BABE. We have no issues with giving/selling Map Making to SABER, but maybe some compensation in the long run would be appreciated. We agree with your analysis of the situation. Do you know if SABER knows GONG?

We would like to discuss these immediate deals to help both our nations survive this turbulent time.
1. Due to meeting BABE, we would like to exchange maps soon, as it would help our strategic planning. Is there a way to procure a map from SABER?
2. We would also like to analyze your conversations with BABE and SABER up to this point. Could we see those texts? It is possible that we might see something different than what you did. We would not share those contents with anyone else (except with your permission).

In good faith we have attached the letter from BABE.

Hello People of Free,

Recently our house of light has opened a window to you. We would like to discuss our future together in this Meleetian water paradise. Let us know when you may have time to have a conversation either by email or IM.
Your envoy Adrianna Lima has written a song about how much she's fallen in love with your people already. Enjoy.

3. We have a few proposals about containing BABE. These do overlap a little bit. These are all open to discussion and debate. We're not advocating any one particular plan; we're just stating what some of the plans could look like.

  • Immediate embargo of BABE by us, The Council, SABER, and GONG, assuming SABER knows GONG.
  • Mutual Defense Pact between us, The Council, SABER, and hopefully GONG.

  • Immediate WAR! between all civs and BABE.

  • Sacrafice SABER, by getting BABE do declare war on them, sap BABE's strength, and then FREE and The Council reconqer SABER's land, and split the land.

We do not want these proposals to leave the halls of The Council.

Finally, we have not had a chance to discuss the MAAP II in light of the threat of BABE. On first look, it seems to be acceptable, but we may still like to make a few revisions.

Sincerely,

Empiremaker

It seems clear that BABE does not want to take on FREE right now, which makes sense - 10 shield spears that kick off a GA for a scientific civ in the middle ages calls for a retreat!!! I figure FREE could have a decent defender in every city pretty much the instant BABE galleys show up. They wouldnt' get anywhere.

Babe could even try to get a long term alliance with free. They might start discovering something when free keeps telling them they don't want to, as babe also knows free knows only us and them.
I also agree that the chances Babe will attack free are close to zero.

This is even one more reason to try to get babe to attack saber....

I think that what Free says and tries to hint babe to attack saber has way greater impact than what we are trying to do. We must by all means prevent that babe starts discovering connections between us and free, but I doubt that they haven't discovered that already.

Well now that I think of it it's even more obvious. They can of course see they have the same tech lead as we do :crazyeye:

I do happen to like some of the options free proposed to us.

My proposed note back to FREE:

Dear FREE friends,

Thanks for getting back to us so quickly. Unfortunately, it would appear that Saber has changed their mind on needing Map Making.. they think they're too far behind to really compete with BABE on grabbing Islands, and so want to focus on defense.
The time may still come when we want to help Saber with tech to help them avoid being totally annihilated by BABE, but that can wait till they're under attack, in our opinion – we hope you agree?

We don't think it's likely we'll be able to get Saber's map… but we will push them to try to get some information about where BABE is located, and we'll pass that along to you.

Here is our first letter from BABE… (very similar to the one you got)
Hello members of the Council,

We are please to meet your acquintance and we've sent our envoy Alessandra Ambrosio to see if we can set up a meeting on IM. Here's our envoy to the Council.

We'd like to discuss our futures together. Emp. Killyouall is a bit tied up these days as you may have read however BCLG, Robi D or Whomp cover most every time zone so we're flexible on times.

Looking forward to our relationship together.

XXOO
Alessandra Ambrosio of The Babes

We responded with an offer of peace, and asked them to respect our territorial waters, and then got this response:
Dear Bureaucrats of the Council,

We find your offer of peace heartwarming however we find your demand regarding your coastal waters provocative and discouraging for our future.
Our vessels do not carry military personnel so come purely with peaceful intentions. If you do not agree to let us pass through we will consider this a dire breach in our relationship.

Sincerely your new envoy,

The Bambino

That's all from them so far. So, not very great.

As to your proposals… We still haven't met GONG, and unless you have(?), there's nothing we can do about them for now. (and besides, based on how advanced BABE is, we suspect that they're working with someone else. We're 99% sure it's not Saber – and we know it's not you or us… so it stands to reason that BABE and GONG are at least friendly if not in full alliance.)

The embargo sounds good… but again, there's really nothing we can do now anyway. If you sign our proposed MAAP II agreement (or something like that) – then we'll have a mutual moratorium on trading with BABE anyway. (and we really doubt Saber will be trading with them).

The Mutual Defense Pact is an excellent idea… and we have proposed just such an idea in article 5 of our MAAP II proposal. We think Saber should be left on the outside of this for now, but if they come under attack, then we can gift them some gold, and maybe a few key technologies to get them into the Middle Ages and hopefully beat back the BABE invasion. We can always get them to agree to pay us back some small amount of gold after they survive. This allows us to help Saber if necessary, without having to promise anything and risk making them too powerful.

As for declaring war… doing so now is only likely to provoke BABE, in our opinion, and we'd rather try to lay low and hope they go after Saber, and waste their time and shields fighting there while we secretly help to prop up Saber… which ties in pretty closely to your last idea.

You have our word – we won't be spreading any tales to other teams. We're committed to our alliance of peace and science with you.

We hope you get a chance to look more fully at our MAAP II proposal soon, as we think it addresses some of the biggest concerns here. Of course, we're happy to explain any points that seem unclear, or to hear any counter-proposals you have.

Here's hoping that the Middle Ages are times of great prosperity for both our peoples!

- General_W, Speaking with the voice of The Council

How's that look?

I ignored the map-exchange request thing, rather than just flat turn them down.
It was our proposal originally to trade our territory map for their world map, but I think the idea has since fallen out of favor with The Council.
Should we bring it up again here?

Personally, I'm ok with trading maps with FREE as long as they promise not to do any other map trades without our permission.
But I'm ok with keeping it all to ourselves also.

:salute:

Saber can't compete with saber in islands. ;) Other than that I like it.

 good catch. Thanks. (Fixed above)

I think it's good. I don't think there's any reason to trade any maps, none of us has any use for the other's map really.

Good! Let's please emphasize the MAAP2 as much as possible, I would feel better if FREE signed it.
